  1. Nice article. I really like Gordon and I agree, he'll make a nice bench UI type, sorta of like an affordable Marwin Gonzalez and/or Ehire Adrianza type.
  2. It's great your fantasy baseball team did well, I have no idea if anyone drafted Berrios in a keeper league and I can spend the rest of my life not remotely caring. Max ain't a learjet anymore.
  3. Through age 26 seasons A- 36-35, 109 ERA+, 617 ip 10.1 WAR B - 48-38, 104 ERA+, 659.6 ip, 10.9 WAR This season - A - 7-4, 135 ERA+, 105ip, 2.5 WAR B - 7-5, 121 ERA+, 121ip, 2.3 WAR Obviously, Berrios hasn't had the ten year run that Max eventually got (although he's on pace to have the better age 27 season as well). But maybe pitching in the NL will help him as well. But right now, Berrios is arguably the better pitcher and he comes with an extra year of control for less then the amount of money Max will make in the second half of this year alone.
  4. That's true, I would assume/hope that the FO makes a good trade which might be wishful thinking on my part. It does sound like the Twins want to be blown away - https://www.si.com/mlb/yankees/news/why-the-new-york-yankees-should-trade-for-minnesota-twins-outfielder-max-kepler
  5. I don't necessarily disagree with you but I think Kepler has some value in trade with other teams despite some mediocre stats. He's a good piece but he's not a vital cog like Buxton or Berrios. He's already 28. I wish we had more depth in the corners right now but we have some depth. And if Buxton doesn't stay healthy, it doesn't matter. This team has almost no pitching so they have to start moving bats to get pitching. Kepler and one of Polanco/Arraez is a good start to get pitching.
  6. I'd move on from Kepler and plan to have a Larnich/Buxton/Kiriloff OF next year. I think someone might give up some nice pitching potential for him. Even with him gone, we'd still have Rooker, Cave, Celestino, Gordon and Arraez around. (This is really where getting nothing for Wade and Baddoo really hurts). I think I'd trade one of Polanco or Arraez as well. Both play second well enough but I'm not sure they should be our starting MI next year. Not sure what the market for them is though. I'd move Rogers if we can as well as all of our free agent to be pitchers. Even with those trades, we should have enough offense next year and I like Miranda as a bat coming up. The problem is we have a bad rotation and a useless bullpen.
  7. The twins offer was pretty low, pretty easy to turn that down. Best case for the Twins is he comes back, finishes the season healthy and they move him this post season
  8. It's a good deal for the Twins but the new pitchers are most likely #5, back of the rotation types, if that. Still, I like that we got AAA pitchers that will make the majors in this deal.
  9. I think you are being too charitable to this FO. They've made many bad moves where they simply misjudged the talent they had, misjudged talent they were getting back, or misjudged how other teams measured talent.
  10. Berrios is gone so a smart team would move him now to get the highest value they can. Not sure I trust them to make a good trade but they really should try to do that now.
  11. I think Morneau was probably pretty close to right on what was happening. I'm sure Donaldson used some swear words as well. Watching Cruz's reaction, he doesn't seem overly concerned. Mostly a nothing burger.
  12. There are a few picks I liked - MacLeod will make the majors, I like that the Twins took Petty. Young power arm that could start if it goes well works for me. I wonder how much the Twins saved, if they can convince one of the handful of power HS arms to sign rather than go to college, I'd be really impressed.
  13. I haven't followed the minors and the draft this year like I have in the past but generally, the more picks in the top 100, the better the draft. I don't love the Twins college bat approach this low but another Larnich wouldn't bug me. I don't think we'll pick pitching with either of these two picks so I hope we get some massive power. The biggest problem (to me) in drafting college players is how old they are when they debut. Lanrich is 24. Rooker is 26 in AAA. Wallner is 23 in A+. Sabato is 22 and struggling in A ball.
  14. I think our best drafts, 2012, 2016, were because we focused on young talent that we could develop. Buxton, berrios, kiriloff, baddoo, mianda, rortvedt, balazovic, etc. Rooker is 26 in AAA? Larnich looks good but is already 24. Sabato (sp) is in the low minors, I think. I dunno. Elite college bats are great (Kris Bryant) but I'm not sure, usually those guys sign out of high school for a reason.
  15. I'd like to see Cruz in Toronto. No idea what we'd get from them but I really like Vlad jr so it's an easy team to root for.
  16. I agree with the original post. Levine hasn't made good trades and doesn't seem to have a good read on the talent. I'm still upset about the 2017. First, we're trading away guys like Ynoa (who did indeed have strong supporters, including Ben, who loved the deal for Atlanta) to get Garcia, only to turn around a week later and trade away Garcia and Kinzter for nothing. It was like the FO had no idea if we were buyers or sellers. That's a pretty big problem. I have no expectation that we will make a good trade this year but we should be selling off everything.
  17. It's time to trade him for whatever they can get. The main problem is I don't trust Levine to make a good trade.
  18. I've only disliked a handful of players - Herr, Slowey, Kepler, Young come to mind. Donaldson doesn't bug me. He seems to play hard and he's good.
  19. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/buy-these-stocks-as-s-p-500-heads-for-11-correction-and-bitcoin-risks-fall-to-12-000-say-strategists-11624879133?siteid=yhoof2
  20. Anyone want to mention an unsexy-stock they are happy to own? Just throwing this out there but we bought John Deere in August 2015. In that time, it's grown 333%. Facebook grew 283% in the same period, Netflix was 349%. Deere has a pretty impressive moat and a solid dividend as well. It's not sexy at all but, man, it's been a nice stock for us.
  21. Eh, Duran is a solid prospect but he's not a Berrios level prospect, let alone a top of the rotation type. (Although, as you say, baseball may be moving away from that). If you don't think a nucleus of Buxton, Sano, Berrios, Kepler, Rosario, Garver, Polanco etc was a nice situation to build around, I don't know what to tell you. It seemed like a pretty good place to be. Certainly a lot better than our current situation. That nucleus was going to be pretty good, no matter who was running things, and they were. But I think a better FO might have been able to help the players more (although the Cruz signing was good). I also don't think this is there only one bad offseason. They've had several bad offseasons where they haven't significantly improved the team. There are good things that Levine has done - I liked the Donaldson signing, a lot, even though it hasn't been as good as we all hoped. The 2018 draft looks solid. But he seems to have misjudged the talent in the system several times. He was not able to keep the window of opportunity for the above named nucleus open.
