  1. "Don't play him because he might get hurt and then he won't play. Have him sit out games so he doesn't have to sit out games." There's a logic flaw there somewhere. Can't put my finger on it, but I sense it.
  2. I think it's fair to say recent Twins spending has been better, with 2023 completely ok. While acknowledging the Twins rather long history of spending NOT being OK, and in fact a definite factor in their inability to compete at the highest levels. This is a team that ran Jason Tyner out at DH and Randy Dobnak as a starter in a postseason game. I'd be fine with 2023 level relative spending...if it continues.
  3. I concur position flexibility has become something of a necessity in the days of massive pitching staffs. However...I strongly disagree with the part about playing lesser players just to play them. Why play your lesser players when you don't have to? Play them when/if you need to, because the better player is unavailable. If the better player never becomes unavailable, great. No need for the lesser guy.
  4. Try this: "Farmer sacrifices into double play, left to second." That's hilarious, and I'd like to take credit, but TBH I copied and pasted from game day.
  5. I doubt the shift ban has much effect on offense anywhere. Getting strikeouts down to something resembling historical levels would.
  6. Au Contraire, mon fr...manfre... ...my friend. You should see the other guy's fist!
  7. Did you learn to spell the name of the country while you lived there? Cee, eh? En, eh? Dee, eh?
  8. Nonconcur. Non. Concur. Nonconcurnonconcurnonconcurnomconcur. Strongly. Sheesh.
  9. Point of order: a walk ISN'T as good as a hit. A single is worth approximately 1.3 times as much as a walk by modern analytics. And of course doubles, triples and HRs are also hits and worth way more than a walk. Walks are great, and OBP is important, but viewing it in a vacuum misses important information. OBP primarily built on batting average is "worth" more than OBP built on walks. Hitting also translates better against good pitching (the kind you're likely to meet in the postseason) than walking. Good pitching limits walks, almost by definition. As for Gallo.... He'll play, there's no need for me to "give him a chance." But...yuck.
  10. Pfft. If he's not in "the best shape of his life" he's behind 90 percent of big leaguers.
  11. Just so we're clear, "the league" isn't going bankrupt.
  12. I don't think cash or "ability to sign" had much to do with this trade. Lopez comes with 2 years of team control. Arraez has 3.
  13. I'd love to see the Twins steal more. But it won't be Buxton. The Twins don't let Buxton run, in the misguided belief it helps keep him on the field.
  14. You're way wrong. Orders of magnitude wrong. Baseball wasn't invented in 2015.
  15. I think it's just the opposite. I think this board overvalues prospects. In many cases wildly overvalues prospects.
  16. Couldn't it just as well be said: "(Miami) are doing what you always want to do in trades, selling high on their player" There's as much reason to believe Lopez is at peak value as Arraez. Probably more.
