  1. @Theo Tollefson - thanks for the detailed write-up. One correction - the "SP" line shows Gray threw 74 pitches. He threw 96. Gutsy performance by Gray keeping this Jays lineup off the board for 5 innings. Provus was talking up Pagan when he came into the game saying how strong he was in July based on his K/9 rate. He did not talk about any other pitching stats. ? Come on, Corey, you can be a Homer and not be so Pollyanna. Here are Pagan's regular stats for the last 15 games. 2 wins, 3 loses. 7.11 ERA. 12.2 IP. 16 hits, 10 ER, 5 BB, 21K and 1.66 WHIP. Yes the K/9 is terrific but the rest of the stats are BRUTAL! I'm sure the advanced stats would say the same thing. Finally I sure hope Miranda is OK. Losing him for any period of time would be very unfortunate.
  2. @Seth Stohs or anyone - do we know when the draftees will begin playing for their minor league teams?
  3. That would have been nice but Maeda pitching every 5th day like he did in 2020 would have been AWESOME!
  4. Based on the headline of the article I was wondering how a bunch of young women of aristocratic/upper-class background helped the Twins win today.... ?? Nice to see the new guys paying immediate dividends. Hopefully this will continue.
  5. When I heard the starting OF for the game I thought I was listening to the Saints. Tough to win when 5 of your 6 top outfielders are not available. Tough outing for Jax and also some missed opportunities early to add a bunch of runs early.
  6. Surprised Cotton was DFA'd. I believe he was also earlier in the year. Maybe with all the player movement today across MLB, the Twins are hoping he goes unclaimed.
  7. I was thinking that the trade for Mahle adds additional pressure on Larnach, Kirilloff, Miranda, Lewis and Martin to get/stay healthy and be solid big league contributors. While it does, it is much harder to find top of the rotation starters than position players, so I'm good with the trades made today thus far.
  8. Any update on Martin's health? The injury when it occurred was not deemed "serious", but he has been out for a month. Balazovic needs to be shut down. He looks like he is throwing batting practice when he is on the mound.
  9. Maybe Wes also knew the wheels were be about to fall off the Twins pitching staff so he decided to take a better gig (perhaps before he got fired).
  10. And to think people on this board were upset when Arraez was taking away playing time from Sano earlier this season.
  11. There have been mentions of trading Correa. Keep in mind that he has a partial no-trade clause so that will limit where he could go. Going all-in at this deadline seems short sighted given this team is not currently constructed to win in the playoffs this year. If they can make some improvements without sacrificing the future, great. But that is indeed the trick, now isn't it...?
  12. My hope is they DFA Sano, but they won't. If Larnach and Jeffers were healthy (giving them more positional and DH options), then the conversation would be tougher. At this point I say Garlick goes to St. Paul. Sano's return complicates things in the lineup as well. Given that Buxton has DHed more than a third of his games played this season, you can't just have Sano as a full-time DH. Bottom line whoever is still on the roster (Gordon, Celestino, Garlick, Miranda, Urshala, Kirilloff, Sanchez, maybe even Kepler) are likely to see less ABs IF Sano gets significant playing time.
  13. The Dyson injury / failure was a kick to the gut for the team and the fans. If he would have been the reliever he was earlier in the season, *maybe* the Twins would have one at least one playoff game... ?
  14. Buxton is also likely in based on his hot streaks. The game has changed, that is for sure. Aside from some of Ozzie's appearances one would be hard pressed to find someone with a lower batting average playing in an all-star game. You hope for a game saving catch, I'll hope he doesn't get injured. ?
  15. I'm not sure how old you are, Mark, but Ozzie Smith made 15 all-star games mostly because of his defense. ?
  16. One other comment I'd like to make about Sunday's game is the White Sox played some strong defense. If that keeps up that is NOT good news for the rest of the division.
  17. I was at the game as well. Terrific seats, but hot weather and a lousy game made it hard to sit thru. It seemed like the Twins were already (mentally) starting their all-star break. Tip of the hat to Cease. He was on today. Archer looked great and came up an out short of his usually 5 solid. At the beginning of the season if someone told me that the Twins would be in first place by 2 games at the all-star break, I would have been ecstatic. Unfortunately they have shown over the past month that they are not likely to maintain their early season success. And even if they did, this team is not built for a long playoff run. Thus I will enjoy them for what they are (an average team) and hope I am pleasantly surprised if they outperform expectations.
  18. When was the last time any team was not "ecstatic" over the players they drafted? Optimism always rules the day. That said, glad to see the Twins appeared to draft some talented kids with high baseball acumen. Now, hopefully they stay healthy and are able to develop. Finding a catcher or two today to add to the pipeline would be nice.
  19. Glad to see the Twins version of Lance Lynn pitched for the Chisox at Target Field today... ? The Twins really needed that win today. Now lets get the split tomorrow!
  20. If Lewis did not get reinjured, I'd agree with you Cody that this is a position of strength. But because Buxton is often injured, it is not. The Twins are lucky to have Celestino and Gordon performing adequately this season after both struggled last season and Cave poorly trying to fill the role, or even Kepler playing out of position.
  21. This is going back a bit but for me it was Adam Johnson. Second overall pick in 2000 draft. I figured he would be a star since the Twins drafted him twice! Big, strong looking power arm who had a 9+ K/9 in the minors. The Twins pushed him quickly thru the system and he fell flat on his face once he reached The Show. Lots of ifs, I know, but imagine what the back of the Twins bullpen would look like with Duran IF Romero had panned out, IF they would have kept Graterol. Talk about bringing the heat. Move over Cincinnati's Nasty Boys... ?
