There have only been 30 teams since the 90s, I believe. How about this: The Twins have been above league average in home runs 40% of the time since 1961. They led the MLB in home runs twice in total, both back in the era you alluded to, and one of those years only yielded 79 wins.

"For many years" = 5 years out of 59? What's pitching got to do with it? Come on man, follow a thread. The Twins have historically been a pitching/defense team, not a hitting team.

When that lineup worked it was paired with good pitching. When the Twins have been good, it's been the pitching. This isn't historically a power hitting club.

I like conversations about errors because everyone says these days that errors don't show whether or not someone is a good defender. It's like saying triples don't matter. Anyway, for some perspective, the 91 Twins had some stretches where they had an alarming number of errors. One interesting fact: The Twins have 54 errors as a team, but only 3 errors are by their starting outfield. This infield is terrible and opposing teams are figuring it out, and each infielder has a different weakness. It's a train wreck out there.

I'm honestly surprised the Twins lost this one. But I agree, this was bad pitching management.

Unless his stats show he has been owning the Yankees, no thanks.

The Sox have one starter but also a good closer and set up guy. The top of the order can hit but they have no bench to speak of. They have been plagued by the injury bug which compounds this. They are an incomplete team, but they have a couple of pieces that can make them a tough team to beat from time to time. The Twins should be prepared to take these games seriously.

I would imagine people here are more worried about the length of this game than the Twins are. This is one of the tests of a long baseball season, and it was a given this was going to happen.

We've been having storms in Chicago seemingly every day this summer. They are brief but I could see a lot of home runs flying in this humidity.

The Twins would probably in division 3 and have the best record in it. So, no matter what the Twins did from here on out ... they'd be the bottom seed ... even if they won 120 games.

I dunno ... mass media sure seemed to think he was a top-10 reliever at the time of the trade.

It's interesting how the Twins keep saying "it was just one bad inning" for Pineda. Welcome to being the next Gibson, I guess, but the bad innings count too. In fact, the bad innings are the only ones people will remember. I wonder how many baseball games are decided by "one bad inning" for the pitcher. I would think it's at least 40%.

Article: How Miguel Sano Can Fix His Swing
Doomtints replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Though this is interesting I hope none of the Twins would think to follow advice from an online forum. As others have pointed out, Sano looks lost up there, like he isn't even seeing the ball. This is similar to how Buxton would look when he struggled. Compounding matters, his defense has been worse. I think the best thing for Sano right now is to ride the pine a couple of days and work on a plan with the hitting staff. (Assuming it wasn't a talk with the hitting staff which caused this mess, mind you, in which case the advice would be to forget everything he was told and buddy up with Cruz to shake things off.)- 36 replies

Astudillo was rated properly, I think. He was playing hot and we wanted him in the majors until he cooled off. Now that he has, it's OK that he goes to the minors.

So ... he's like every pitcher who has been around 7+ years? Looking at Perez's stats at a high level and ignoring all the splits, he has an overall 4.09 ERA and 110 ERA+. This is still a tip over his career norm, but he is playing within his conceivable range. For all the hootin' and hollerin' over him on his "hot streak" -- his quality start percentage is still only 42%. That's not good enough as the Twins bats cool off. I don't suspect he will be as good the rest of the way through, but he won't be a disaster every time out either.

There is a 0% chance the Indians will give up Hand until next year midseason at the earliest, and probably not even then. This would be as daft as if the Twins had given up Joe Nathan after 2007. What was the methodology TwinsDaily used for picking the candidates for these threads?

Exactly. This is what the Sox were showing several times last night. I don't know how you look at that, either as a player or a manager, and not exploit it. Not only will it get you on base, but it will make the other team feel like morons. Stuff like that turns a game around.

When Baldelli sees a shift where the entire infield is on one side and playing deep, why isn't he calling for a bunt?
