  1. Yes, the Astros recent run of success has been filling the seats, and even better the newer ownership is not afraid to spend the money.
  2. Houston is considered a small market team. Their TV deal was botched. At one time, Rangers and Astros games were available all over the state. That's no longer the case, and for a while most residents in Houston could not watch them play on TV either. But even before all that stuff, they were not considered a big market team. Though the team is drawing fans now, this was not always the case. During the short time I lived in Houston, I was surprised at how little attention they got in the local media. The Rangers are not big draws historically either, mind you. Honestly I'm not sure Houston is much of a sports city. The Oilers struggled to fill the seats, and although the Texans declare every game a sellout, when you watch footage the stadium is half empty so these are sellouts on paper only.
  3. Dyson is a good pick up and he was one of the guys I was hoping the Twins would target.
  4. I agree. You only have to look at the trade deadline moves two years ago: Buying, and then one week later selling, and then the team makes the playoffs. Uhm.... Having a strategy and sticking to it is a good thing ... don't worry about making the wrong choice so much. Who cares if the Pohlads have to spend a little more, it's not the end of the world. They should fight the fight to do what they think is right. The changing priorities and strategies just makes the internal waters too murky to make good moves.
  5. Being afraid to make a mistake or being afraid to spend $1 more than the bare minimum required kinda sucks.
  6. He could be a piece for a team that wants to dump salary, but that's it. I don't know how many teams need to dump salary on relievers, though. The Twins may have already found the only team that wanted to do that and made the deal.
  7. Spark plugs usually die in the winter, yes. Replacement kits are sold to replace filters and spark plugs every spring. If you don't replace these parts in the spring, if your mower starts at all, it won't be starting for you all summer. Even worse, if you fail to replace the filters every spring you will often trip a fuel sensor which won't allow you to start the motor at all for up to a day. Not doing spring maintenance could be called an executive failure.
  8. Executives should not be dealing with all those little distractions. And yes, many executives would be out there yelling and demanding that the lawn gets mowed, regardless of all those little things, even the rain.
  9. I would say dumping a story to the media about the Mets wanting Buxton isn't *really* trying as hard as they can try, wouldn't you? I mean, yeah, they "tried" but they gave up pretty early on. I can't say I have ever heard a team dumping a story like that to the media, usually nobody knows what the negotiations are. Usually teams never disclose this stuff. It can't be good for any other prospective trading partners when the Twins publicly air their dirty laundry. "Trying" -> sure. Competently trying -> probably not.
  10. Take a look at the standings. They are competing now! Go out to a game and have some fun!
  11. You said specifically that the FO should get points for trying. We are talking about the equivalent of C-level guys here, not teenagers asking for dates to the prom. I think everyone assumes they are trying, but results matter.
  12. I did not say they should be replaced. I said that if the argument is activity > results, then they should be replaced. I myself did not make that argument.
  13. If this is the argument, the conclusion is the front office can't get deals done and should be replaced. The bullpen has been a problem all year, and longer, and the Twins backed themselves into a corner by cutting half the bullpen in the past 6-8 weeks. You could almost call this self-sabotage -- they announced to the league they are desperate for bullpen arms and everybody raised their prices.
  14. They must be at least a little bit consistent because they are inherently predictable. They are always so worried about doing too much that they never do enough.
  15. With the Twins infield defense being what it is, I question Minnesota being the right place to transform a pitcher into an ace. On the other hand, put Berrios in front of a good defense and see what happens.....
  16. We will see what happens. I'm glad we are being realistic that they might be done, or any further moves might not be interesting. Any team asking for Buxton in a trade is not being realistic or serious, so the team is right to just walk away from that.
  17. You have to dig into the depth in order to fill gaps. Don't be afraid to trade depth to solve a problem. If one is fearful of trading away depth to solve a problem because "someone might get injured" that means the problem stays all for a scenario that might never happen. And if you don't make the trade and an injury occurs where you have no depth, but you had a chance to address it, the joke's on you.
  18. Kiriloff was drafted 15th after the Twins had a decent season, but I get your point. If the new regime is willing to not rely 95% on the prospects to field the major league team then, sure, he can be on the table. as can anyone. Kiriloff is still 2-3 years out and has no guarantees attached to him.
  19. The media believes teams vying for one-game, sudden-death wildcard games would be buyers. They are largely incorrect.
