  1. It really felt like Molitor turned a corner last year with the bullpen. He was on the record stating he wanted pitchers to finish out an inning, but down the stretch he started playing matchups and watching how the pitchers were doing (pulling them in a timely manner) and it worked out very well. Maybe today we just saw a bit of his idealism again and next time he'll be back to reality. There is zero value in wanting to change pitchers only at the start of inning. Even without looking it up, I feel confident saying this was never a winning strategy for anyone. Meltdowns are usually happening BEFORE the runners score.
  2. Cleveland both underachieved in the first half and overachieved down the stretch. They played a lot of crappy teams en route to a 22-game winning streak. Take that away and they're a 90-92 win team -- still a playoff team but not a true top seed (as evidenced by them being bounced out by the wild card team).
  3. It's impossible to say this team is primed for the future. Most of the players we know will be gone in one to two years. This is "win now" mode, Twins-style.
  4. Polanco was still working through some kinks. He may not have been good right out of the gate this year so his absence may not hurt all that much. We'll find out. We were all worried when Morneau went down a few years ago only to have Cuddyer turn into a superhero when it mattered. Now someone else gets that opportunity.
  5. My waist size before was near the minimum for a 6'2" adult -- around 33". So no.
  6. The Twins liked Vargas enough to have him initially skip AAA. Then they decided they weren't sure if they wanted him or if they didn't. I think we've all dated people like this before. Good luck to you Vargas, you'll find better. The Twins finally made a decision.
  7. The study is not relevant to this conversation. We are talking about a rookie being ready for the major leagues, not a team. Yes, veterans can take a while to get going. We're not talking about that. Find me a study that shows players who have minimal to no major league experience, particularly ones hitting less than .100 as Garver is. Garver's one hit was a home run, hooray?
  8. Repeating something a million times doesn't make you right. I would offer it's quite the opposite.
  9. Garver has been absolutely terrible in spring training. I'm hoping the Twins can use this time wisely to determine if Garver is truly ready or not. I'm high on Garver but if he's not ready then he's not ready.
  10. I said it before and I will say it again ... I think Lynn was probably the best free agent pitcher this year. Sorry, Darvish. If I were in charge, Lynn would have been my #1 target. It's a minor sticking point that he is only signed for one year because if my opinion is proven true, the Twins won't be able to afford him next year. Lynn will go off and be Ervin Santana II elsewhere. But hey, we had Kenny Rogers for one good year too, right?
  11. I agree that the Twins aren't doing themselves any favors by spending cash on these 1-2 year deals for pitchers. They're not likely to make it to the WS and they don't have anyone of substance in the minors 1-2 years out.
  12. The Twins have a backup plan, so I'm not worried about how Rodney performs. I'm leaning to the side that he will be a plus to the team overall. but perhaps not with his arm. We'll find out.
  13. If they offered 2/20 weeks or months ago I would say it's even more insulting.
  14. Making the postseason and being offensive are not the same thing. Plenty of CEOs have scorched earth policies and the companies are profitable. However, the Twins are in this for the long term. Reputation matters. The Twins won't have the luxury of taking the money and running when things start to catch up with them.
  15. I disagree. They can see he is still a free agent after the preseason is in full swing. They tried to sucker him, hoping he is feeling desperate.
  16. Last summer, Kraft/Heinz made an offer to buy Unilever. The offer was so pathetically low that not only did Unilever reject the offer, they told Kraft to never call them ever again. No negotiations, no conversations. The offer was offensive to them and the response came from their legal department. (If it matters, the offer was for $143B). This new front office still needs to learn a few things about business. Cracking open the business section of a newspaper once in a while might be a good start.
