  1. And for the Twins, it gives them a chance to drop one game of a doubleheader more often than they should.
  2. Tell that to Johan Santana. It was written years ago that it's not about the fastball velocity alone, but the difference in velocity between the fastball and the changeup. Too little of a difference doesn't work, nor does too much of a difference. There's a 'sweet spot.'
  3. One of these is Lance Lynn's career. The other one is Tim Lincecum's career. If you have followed Lincecum, you know which is which... but appears the issue isn't control so much as it's being outside of the strike zone in the wrong place.
  4. Morrison should have never been signed. With him on the roster, the Twins started the season with 5 left handed hitters plus two switch hitters. The only pure right handed hitter on the roster of any consequence is Dozier. Plus, he was Regression Candidate Prime of all the free agents.
  5. This is a longtime Twins tradition. Even in their playoff years this would happen.
  6. Cleveland wasn't very interesting most of last year too. It seems unlikely they would rattle off 22 wins at the end of the season two years in a row. But ... they could certainly do enough to win the division again.
  7. That's not saying much in this division. Sure, I can buy it that they will be one game over .500 by July 4.
  8. Nothing wrong with a little hyperbole. If the Twins can stop having these losing streaks, they'll be fine. They have all the pieces, but injuries keep disrupting their flow. Losing Buxton, Mauer, Sano, and even Santana, Castro and Polanco... That's a lot of key pieces. This isn't even bringing up swapping Vargas for Morrison, either.
  9. Just remember he was a very late signing and missed most of spring training. He essentially started baseball activities 6-7 weeks late. We are 6-7 weeks in the season. But on the other hand ... this is Detroit ....
  10. No rehab? A mistake? Buxton is needed for his defense. Putting him on a rehab assignment in the first place was a mistake. Work on his swing in the minors after an injury? Who cares! Get him up here. The Twins missed his defense mightily in his absence.
  11. Who would buy high for him? Yes he is improved, yet so far this year he has just 3 quality starts in 7 games. He has not been flawless. He has two straight years of a 5.07 ERA. He has to put up Cy Young numbers before anyone will look at him as anything except a serviceable end of the rotation guy.
  12. Perhaps. It should certainly be pointed out that throwing outside the strike zone is an important tool in a pitcher's repertoire.
  13. Being unpredictable has its advantages. Whatever he is doing differently, let's hope he keeps quiet about it ... and let's hope he keeps changing things up a bit!
  14. If this follows the script, Romero will blow out his arm soon. Let's hope the baseball gods have a different script for the Twins this time around!
  15. We have the same definition. I would say we have a difference of opinion, but that's not right either. Let's just say one of us looked at data.
  16. Really? Josh Willingham Jason Kubel Joe Mays Harmon Killebrew (Insert 90% of the names in the baseball universe below)
  17. Every player drops off a cliff. Morrison is at the age where it can start. He has hit very well over the past week. Hopefully he's in a groove now.
  18. Morrison was a textbook regression candidate. I was a little surprised fans were so sold on him. Morrison might finish OK, he might stay the same. We don't know. His signing was a risk all along.
