  1. I think it would be criminal to wait to the trade deadline, or Terry's usual August to move guys. The extra two months would be very nice for the young guys. I have a sneaky feeling we are not going to win 70% plus of the remaining games to make a run here. Especially on the backs of a rotation with Ricky Nolasco, Pat Dean, etc.
  2. Pretty good article Nick. It does remain to be seen whether the Twins will use this time to clean the vets out and provide reps for the future.
  3. If he won't sign long term and we aren't good for 2-3 years I think you have to consider it.
  4. I was thinking the same thing as Mike. If he can control the run game, frame pitches, and hit .250 even he would be a few hundred times better than what we have right now
  5. Best of both worlds. Take the money and buy a house on frat row. It might hurt your development a tad.
  6. He has has 44 IP in AA. Close to a full season in the minors. His H/9 in AA and AAA have been 7.1 and 5.6, while striking out 9.9 per 9 last year and 13+ this year.
  7. Not a huge fan. Corner OF types are available every year, not to spend and available on shorter deals. I prefer to focus on SP and C.
  8. If Sano does not sign a longer deal in the next 12 months, I think you have to strongly consider it. It is the only way to get a coup type return. Billy Bean figured this out years ago. The longer you wait, the more money he has in his pocket and less time before the big contract
  9. I know it is against Twins philosophy. But I would be tempted to take a college pitcher or catcher.
  10. We will never have all the access they do or the resources. We do know that 28 teams have more wins than us since 2011. By year end the Astros may put us dead last.
  11. The other thing is Plouffe has a career .809 OPS against lefties. So had TR not been satisfied with the return, at least we could be using him appropriately especially when Arcia was up here. At this point it doesn't matter, but it would make me more optimistic about the franchise if we caught up to where the league was five years ago *i get the first platoon was longer than five years ago. But it seems more widespread in about 2010 or so
  12. So basically you think if Garrett is available we take him. Unless one of the top 7 are there for some reason right? I feel like if Garrett slips past other teams, the Twins won't be the one to take the plunge. The Tigers and CHW at 9-10 for example
  13. Spot on. The issue is this was obvious 12 months ago and a no brainer in the off-season.
  14. I guess we will find out soon. But if it were a mis-direction that was very Spielman-esque. The first time I read it I thought "certain guy" could be a generic term, such as we are going with a prep pitcher.
  15. I thought TR's comment here was interesting. "Our guys are pretty certain we are going to get a certain guy" Sounds like we are going to grab someone that most have available at 15. So not a top guy falling http://www.twincities.com/2016/06/03/twins-need-catching-but-need-wont-dictate-draft/
  16. I will just say the slotting is not working. The best prospects who may go 5th, 12th, or 29th? Pretty silly if you ask me
  17. Smalley compared his pre and post leg kick swing and said he thought the leg kick would reduce the sweeping motion he was making, which would in turn help him against breaking balls away.
  18. He came back in 2011. Some of these guys were here before that. On that list, Sano is the only starter on a good team that we know for sure.
  19. Tough to dissect the words into something meaningful. But "assess player development" seems like a scouting/talent evaluation role. I can't say for sure. Pretty funny though how the Twins have a lifer who they like and move them around to completely unrelated areas. Operations, GM, oversee construction projects, etc.
  20. Are you suggesting making your operations guy your GM was a bad move? I do find it telling, that Smith was fired as GM. Then hired back as an assistant to GM to "help assess player development in Venezuela and the Dominican". You just don't see this anywhere else in the world. http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/blog/sports-business/2011/12/ex-gm-bill-smith-returns-to-twins.html
  21. Yeah. Grab potentially the best hitter at 15th overall sounds like a win.
