  1. i can't quit the Twins because i'm addicted to dumpster diving.
  2. Exactly. There is a certain cheer leader squad that will do anything to defend that dude (Sano) no matter how poorly he plays and then that same group turns around and trashes Kepler and other guys endlessly. if the organization wants to bring Sano back on a minor league deal, i'm not opposed, but it would have to be under very strict guidelines which Sano is not capable of fulfilling in my opinion.
  3. Oh no doubt. I'd have no problem giving him a minor league deal. I think he is one of those guys you are constantly having to kick in the rear end to keep him motivated. Unfortunately, that can be a bit of a clubhouse cancer when he's not doing well and so are a bunch of other guys.
  4. I don't think it truly matters at this point. This is not a playoff bound team. If anything they should be looking to deal the few good pieces they do have like Buxton, Polanco, etc. to bring back as many prospects as possible. I don't think this current batch of guys will ever be playoff caliper.
  5. Pointless signing. Fully commit to the rebuild this season and stop the dumpster diving.
  6. I know some will disagree with this but i think the Twins could have used Rodon, but like Correa i think he was looking to play in a big city market so it was a moot point.
  7. There's a difference between doing whatever it takes to win (cheating being one of them) and vesting yourself in a team. The two don't always align. And I do think the Twins were serious about trying to sign him, but I also don't think he would have been happy being a Twin long term because they would not have made more corresponding moves to bring in better players to compliment him with his bloated salary on the roster. Someone else here brought up the point that he's a big market in the spot light kinda player, which i agree with. That probably also played a factor. He likely WANTED to go to NY or to California which is fine. And we don't know for sure if Boras really circled back to the Twins other than to drive other teams to up their anty. The Athletic's piece is also pure speculation, and we also don't know if the Twins said "no thanks either." From what I've heard they said the offer was still on the table. On the last point i agree Boras is definitely full of tricks and it certainly appears he did play the Twins, but i do give the Twins credit for not biting off more than they could chew and signing him to an albatross deal, which honestly would have been a terrible contract a little over halfway through, given Correa's back issues and apparently ankle issues. Either way water under the bridge now, time to move on.
  8. BINGO. And that will always be a problem for this team. I don't think it was 100% about the money. Probably first and foremost on his mind was a chance at winning a world series and then a close second money. The Twins didn't really have a chance from the very start, which is why I still think they should have traded him last fall before the deadline. Oh well I guess. Regardless, I'm relieved he didn't sign with the Twins. The last 4 or 5 years of that deal are gonna be bad, bad, BAD for the Mets. Given his injury history I would be nervous giving him even 10 years.
  9. i really don't agree with this statement other than the mentoring part. Correa WAS NOT a vested part of this organization, never was. He simply made a few statements down the stretch and used the Twins as a stepping stone to get a bigger payday and jump to an organization that has a chance at winning something. And on the last point i don't blame him. Who wants to play for a team that is a perennial loser and never takes the final step to become good. That last tidbit aside, his agent is Boras who's a shark. Our front office must have been expecting this when they went out and got Farmer. I'm sure Boras told Correa him what to say, when to say it, and good for him. We know the Twins made several offers of differing amounts, length of contract, etc. What happened beyond that is pure speculation, but in this case I think they deserve a bit more credit. They still got played but they tried, as agonizing as that is to say. What the Giants did was beyond stupid. In fact it was so stupid they got cold feet and backed up. In contrast the Mets offer was much much closer to the Twins and yet did he come back to the Twins for a second look? Nobody knows, but considering how quickly he jumped to the Mets leads me to believe he didn't. If he really wanted to be a part of this team and truly was "vested in this organization" he would have opened up negotiations with them again and at least talked to them some more. Somehow i doubt that happened given the timing which tells you all you need to know. He didn't really want to remain a Twin and just said all the right things as a player who wants a big payday, and honestly you can't blame him, it's business.
  10. I agree. I'm kinda glad the Twins didn't sign Correa either. I just have a gut feeling that deal is gonna end up being a bad BAD contract, even for the money rich Mets. That said, I think the Front office got schooled and it appears they threw all their effort into the Correa deal. The Gallo and Farmer signings do next to nothing to moving this team to competitiveness. And to all those giving Sherry a hard time about Carlos Rodon. Carlos was signed that day and the other sports websites started reporting it between 7-9pm, while her article was posted around noon. I think she deserves a pass.
  11. Yep. That's what made me so nervous about what the Twins offered, which would have been a HUGE deal for them. Considering Correa will be in his early 40's at the conclusion of that contract and has a history of back problems (which i can attest too, never go away), it was a very risky deal for this franchise in my opinion. Would have it been great to have him? Sure, but at what price long term?
  12. that's not inflation that's insanity. Russo is 100% correct. The giants deal / no deal was beyond stupid.
  13. yep. I am just over 40 and my younger co-workers absolutely loathe using the telephone to talk to someone in person. I don't really get it.
  14. I wouldn't. I hate Sirius XM. Try and cancel a service with them. They will literally make you wait 45 minutes as they pass you from one call agent to the next trying to persuade you to change your mind. They are HORRIBLE about that. I cancelled my service with them about 2 months ago after they increased my bill to $32 a month and got tired of having to renegotiate with them every 6 months. It was always a hassle. I had to speak with 9 different agents, and probably told them "i want to cancel" at least 30 separate times and they stalled and stalled throughout the process hoping I would give up and hang up. As someone who's spouse works at a call chat help desk I know they can do a cancellation in less than 10 minutes. NEVER AGAIN.
  15. Terry Ryan made some decent trades and even brought in some decent talent. But you are correct part II was not a good tenure for him.
  16. With all due respect if you believe Arraez, Miranda, Ober, Duran, Jax is a great accomplishment along with everything else going on with this team as a whole, I don’t agree. I mean if you are happy with this team (and it appears you are based on your replies to me) and everything else the front office has done, the perennial "awww shucks" attitude and "oh well maybe next year," culture, than to each their own i guess. Nothing personal but that's not good enough to me. I want results not excuses. I want the team to win in the playoffs and not settle for just making it, which wasn't a problem last year. All i hear is excuses and oh well maybe next year. That's unacceptable. And yes i will give you first line credit. They didn't draft Duran or Jax, and both Arraez and Ober were drafted before Falvey took over. drops mic
  17. The key word is "MIGHT." I'm tired of the "MIGHT." And i don't count trades. They didn't do the dirty work, they just grabbed it from someone else.
  18. My vote is fired. I think it's almost a foregone conclusion and not because of the Correa signing either. These two (Falvey and Levine) were supposed to be big player development guys and they haven't done squat yet. Where are the big league starters? Where are the position players? I want results and so does everyone else. Every year it's always blamed on injuries, last year it was injuries and covid, this year it's injuries again. No more excuses, get it done or your fired.
  19. Honestly if this is the best this front office can do, (which is a total strikeout), they should all be fired. Falvey and Levine GONE. I'm sorry but completely unacceptable. I understand why they didn't sign Correa because what the Giants did was insanely stupid (amount and length of contract). I agree 100% with Russo on that. But the fact that they haven't done ANYTHING besides dumpster dive moves so far this offseason is a complete utter fail in my book, no ifs ands or butts. They have way too much payroll flexibility for this nonsense. Either that or they should have finally committed to a full rebuild at the end of last season. I mean the Twins had to have known that Correa was going to screw them over and opt out. I mean the guy is a known cheater with an iffy personality, despite all the hype. Now they got nothing for Correa when they could have at least traded him for prospects at the deadline. This front office doesn't know what it's doing, has no vision, is completely apathetic, and has no real interest in moving the needle either way. At this point i'd rather have Terry Ryan back to be perfectly honest.
  20. I respect your opinion mike but i don't recall saying "anyone is saying anyone is stupid." I said ...."those who think otherwise are somehow crazy." Big difference. And I also don't think this team should "never sign an elite free agent" that's preposterous and you and I both know it. What it means is that the team has to be smart in big free agent signings because they are rare. I really think in this case the Twins made a very serious offer, and I also agree with Russo that the Giants went beyond that into the realm of utter stupidity with both the dollar amount and years. He is good but 13 YEARS & 350 million good? I'm not so sure about that. I think it's very debatable, especially when the rest of this team has more holes in it than swiss cheese. The fact that they offered 280 million to Correa and 10 years CLEARLY means they are willing to play in the deep end. Apparently though the Giants are willing to not only dive into the deep end but also drown. Again just my opinion on the matter considering the length of the contract, Correa's back injury history, and his apparent willingness to cheat.
  21. I don't agree with that. Besides the fact that Correa is a known cheater of the worst type, he's also been inconsistent at times, as well as injury prone in prior seasons. Lower back injuries don't go away they plague you the rest of your life no matter what you do, trust me i know. And as you approach your mid 30's and early 40's they become a nightmare reoccurrence particularly if it has to do with herniated discs, etc. I think the Giants made an insane decision. Russo is correct in my opinion...100% correct.
  22. BINGO. Short and to the point. Even with Correa last season this team still collapsed and missed the playoffs. It is what it is. Even if they had ponied up and signed him they likely aren't playoff bound unless the pitching staff takes a major step forward, and it would be even harder with Jeffries and whatever platoon guy they bring in behind the plate not to mention a bunch of unproven prospects in the infield and outfield aside from Buxton. Honestly this team needs to rebuild. The current cast isn't gonna cut it.
  23. i noticed this as well. The poll was definitely enlightening. There are some very very big egos on this forum. Some of them pretend to be quasi organization insiders and it's laughable. Look I get it were all fans and WE DO ALL want this team to win, but comeonnnnn stop pretending to be something you are not. It truly is all speculation here. I also agree that throwing a ridiculously long and outrageous amount of money at a 28 year old shortstop is not realistic for this franchise. I honestly think the Giants signed a very bad deal here. It's gonna cost them dearly once he gets later into that contract.
