    Ideally the Twins could move Sano to DH now and find someone to take over 3rd. Donaldson could be that guy. I don't like the amount of money I think would be required to sign him, but he would fill a need. Kepler or Kirilloff at 1st.

    I don't know about that. If anything it's worse because he was bad defensively at 3rd in 2017, got better in 2018 and got much much worse in 2019. Meanwhile his fielding at 1st got much worse in 2019. And yes, i do recognize he has seen limited games at 1st. RTOT/ year stats 2019 (-17) 1st base (-13) 3rd base 2018 (4) 1st base (-6) 3rd base 2017 (11) 1st base (-16) 3rd base -10 and lower is considered awful I agree on spending the available capital on good starting pitching. I think signing Donaldson is a potential plus but not truly an area of dire need. The Twins need starting pitching BADLY - captain obvious

    Because Sano is pushing 300 pounds and his sabremetric fielding stats have gotten much worse the past couple of years.

    Because the perception is that they never truly "Go for it" and do whatever it takes to bring in the right players to win a world series.

    I hate every bit of this situation. The Twins utterly failed to get what they needed on the starting pitching front and it's gonna cost them dearly this season IMO. That said, it also highlights another concerning issue which is the collective view of MLB players towards the Twins. As the Donaldson situation drags on it looks more and more likely that there is indeed a very real reputation in MLB baseball that "nobody wants to play in Minnesota" unless you are desperate, second rate, a retread, or close to retirement. Apparently the Nat's have dropped out and all that is left is the Braves and Twins with 4 year deals left on the table. This might seem like Capt. obvious statements to some of us, but going forward it's a potential huge obstacle in situations where the Twins indeed are willing to spend big on free agents but nobody is willing to even play ball with them and negotiate a deal due to the "historic contraction era cheapness" under Ryan. Even with the history of the Mauer contract the legacy lives on.

    Not sure i agree on Oswaldo Arcia. I remember him very well in his time with the Twin and he was always a free swinging maniac. IMO he didn't make it as a Twin because of his crazy free swinging, high strikeout, low batting average performances year in and year out. His problem always stemmed back to never developing a good approach at the plate or an eye for pitches. You might be able to get away with that in the minors but not in the majors against elite pitching. I don't blame that entirely on the Twins. Some guys just don't have it and never make it in the big leagues. It is what it is i guess. The same might be true of Romero (let's hope not). It's hard to say if his struggles are the switch to being a reliever or him just throwing the ball and not developing an approach to pitching. Some guys are just all gas and no brains which would be unfortunate for him because he has good pure stuff. Also illustrates the dangers of hanging on to EVERY prospect instead of making trades when other teams offer serviceable players for prospects who are still just prospects.

    To be honest i don't think he has the raw stuff to make it as a starter maybe as a Loggy.

    I guess I'm a bit more reluctant on Donaldson. If it was up to me i'd be nervous about offering five years to a 34 year old player who was diagnosed with dead arm syndrome less than two seasons ago which also coincided with a decline in his BA and career high strikeouts.

    Unless they swing a trade for a good starter this team is in trouble even if they sign Donaldson. Just my opinion.

    Doesn't matter. The fact that he's turned down two extension offers so far and has not entered extended negotiations yet means he has no intention of staying in Minnesota. Might as well trade him now along with Sano and Buxton and start rebuilding again.

    Nice to have Romo back. Still consider this offseason an almost total failure if they fail to swing a trade or sign a good mid to top of the rotation starter. Without that third guy it's gonna be a long season.

    I would even go a step further. Why would they (Sano, Buxton or Berrios) want to stay with the Twins upon reaching free agency? There's zero reason to do it. Nobody wants to move to Minnesota, deal with the awful weather, pay the sky high income taxes and play for a franchise that never takes any risks or goes for it. Some of that could be overcome by a team that occasionally goes for it all and signs big name free agents. The Vikings Organization for all it's faults really does try, but no the Twins. They've haven't been trying since 1992.

    And maybe just maybe statements like ^THIS^ is the reason many athletes do not want to move to the Twins Cities.

    well by the sounds of it, the Dodgers are in heavy discussions with Bumgarner per MLB Trade Rumors Jeff Todd and Conner Byrne. So what's plan B? Smeltzer, Dobnak?

    Why not? Because you can't win the world series with one player. If the Twins swooped in and offered 35-42 million for 8-10 year to beat the Yankees upcoming offer of 280-300 million they would be Cole poor, kinda like House Poor.

    Romero is the one i'm most dissapointed about. He has/had the raw stuff.

    yep. I've come to terms with it myself. this is the Minnesota Twins they will sign NO free agents worth a darn.

    It's not going to happen. They will not sign any of the front line starters available this offseason and they won't make any trades for anything good either. When have they done otherwise? Jack Morris? That was 20+ years ago. Typical Twins. Maybe next year.
