  1. For their career, Sano as a HR every 18.7 PA, Tyler Austin has one every 17.1 PA. In today's game, is his power really anything special? He really needs to provide more.
  2. Sano's upside has become a less durable Adam Dunn. I always hope it would be higher.
  3. If the FO believed this, why not fire Molitor during the year and not trade Pressly? If they believed Pressly was going to be this good, they would not have traded him. It had nothing to do with Molitor. Trading Pressly is just another example of the FO misreading their team. They either didn't plan on contending this year or didn't believe in Pressly, so they took the best offer. In 2017, instead of adding at the deadline, the traded players away players and end up getting hot and making the playoffs. This isn't an attempt to jump on the FO, the Twins are having a great year so far and there is time to fix the bullpen. Now they have to start acting as contenders instead of rebuilding.
  4. Agreed, as long as they don't stubbornly hold on to that player and gift them a roster spot.
  5. Perez is this year's rule 5 pick for the FO. They are determined to show everyone they can find someone nobody else could.
  6. According to Forbes, for luxury tax purpose the benefit expense was $14,044,700 per team. For what I can see, revenue is around $260 million, which would put payroll around $135 million if they spent 52%, which is right around what they spent in 2018 Given the teams struggles and ticket sales, I would expect they are budgeting less revenue in 2019. https://www.forbes.com/sites/maurybrown/2018/12/17/final-mlb-payrolls-for-all-30-teams-show-second-largest-decline-since-2004/#381115fe474a
  7. The Twins revenue is below the league average, so the expectation would be salaries would also be below average. Based on a comparison of the league salary and league attendance, it looks like the Twins payroll has been right where you would expect it to be. Rank Rank Rank Year Payroll Attendance Revenue 2018 21 20 21 2017 19 24 2016 23 25 2015 20 21 2014 24 22 2013 23 21 2012 12 14 2011 11 9
  8. Herrera's 2 year contract was too long for the Boys, glad we got another 1 year deal done - still keeping our options open
  9. What do you think his trade value would be? You picked him up last year for a marginal minor league player when he had 2 years of team control. Last year was a continuation of his downward slide and he would be more expensive with the extension.
  10. As much as I would like to see the FO start committing to some players longer than 1 year, I don't think committing to a back of the rotation starter is the place to start. The 40 man roster is full of younger potential 4th & 5th starter. And I believe the FO's was also suppose to be great at developing pitching, why commit to Odorizzi for 3 years?
  11. If the batter is in the batters box, it's the catcher responsibility to move back enough so he doesn't get hit in the head.
  12. Looking forward to the July sell off is pretty depressing.
  13. Unfortunately, something seems to happen to Sano every year and he has not shown much of a fielder. It would be great to keep him there, but banking on this for next year isn't wise. You could sign someone like Mike Moustakas who would give you a better fallback option who could also be a left-handed bat at first. Between first, third and DH, you would have plenty of options for both Sano and Moustakas and you wouldn't have to rely on Adrianza for anything but a utility role.
  14. I think they really need to sign a third baseman. No need to get more 1b/DH's, we have plenty of options on the roster. Given Sano's history and with Adrianza appearing to be the backup option, they should be looking to add at that position.
  15. I believe he still has another option year, so you can still leave him in AAA this year if he doesn't show anything this spring. Even if he is a .150 to .200 hitter after this year, his defense and speed would still be valuable as a 4th outfielder and would buy you time to see if he develops. So I would hate to see the Twins just lose him because I don't see any way you would get him through waivers. But I would rather risk having him turn into a star and you had to pay him an additional $50 million, than giving him $50 million now and hoping he turns into a star.
  16. Agree, it would be nice to see him not batting .150 in April before you start offering him a long term contract. Plenty of time to offer him a contract and way too early to give up on him. But I do agree the FO needs to start signing some of the player to long term contracts. Just hope they do this for players like Berrios, Polanco & Rosario who have had productive seasons.
  17. And with that, he should be getting MOY votes. I hope that's not the roster you want anything to do with going into 2019.
  18. Ever since the bunt attempt in the top of the 7th inning of game 163 of a score less game to get into the playoff against the White Sox, I've always considered him more Robin than Batman. But nothing wrong with being Robin. Maybe he was the hero we deserved.
  19. It's good to have a scapegoat, especially when you look at the roster they fielded in September.
  20. I had a couple hopes with the new front office, they would give the younger players opportunities and stop the rolling out 30+ players. Based on the waiver claims and who they are bring up, doesn't look like this is going to happen. Also I hoped with the increased analytical approach, they would be able to find valuable players we have been missing. Based on who we have picked up and signed compared to who we have lost, it looks like we are losing better players than we are picking up. With the draft, I expected in 2017 when you have the first overall pick, you should have a good draft. It will be interesting to see how Ryan's 2016 draft compares to the 2018 draft since both we middle of the draft. It's probably too early to give up on the FO, but early returns don't look good. They were inexperienced when hired, so hopefully this is just a learning curve. This offseason will be big to show they have a idea how to build a roster.
