  1. All these trades for pitching the last couple years, make me wonder when the "pitching pipeline" is going to kick in.
  2. It's not ideal when your most irreplaceable player is also your least dependable player.
  3. Owners did propose a $100 salary floor with a lower tax limit to increase revenue sharing, but it was rejected by the players.
  4. You don't have to care what the players want, but they are still going to negotiate what they feel is best for them. The owners have already offered up an age limit to start FA without service time, so if it's going to be accepted, it's going to be lower than 29.5. If you think either side is going to negotiate what best for the fans and not for themselves, you have learned nothing from past agreements.
  5. I'm not sure an "or" policy would work because you could still game the service time like the Twins did with Buxton and delay his FA. I think gaming the system is what players want to avoid. But you could do an "and" policy. 27 and 3-4 years service. Also, with this in the discussion, I don't see how Buxton signs until after the CBA is agreed. He might get FA if they change the rules.
  6. I think the takeaway is not to do what the Twins did in 2017. The were a playoff contender and the FO sold at the deadline. If they had strengthen the roster, maybe one of the new players gets hot and wins a series for you.
  7. At the time, the David Ortiz decision was correct. He cleared waivers and ended up doing okay.
  8. If Falvine is wrong on either side, he is gone. Plus MLB will have a new contract with the players which will make the decision even more difficult.
  9. Leaving Dobnak in the rotation wouldn't been a decision based just in spring training. He earned it based on the prior two years and contract extension. Shoemaker should have been the one who had work out of the bullpen to start.
  10. Based on the WAR calculation, Castro was no more than a replacement level player. But the Twins need a catcher, so he provided what they need in 2 out of the 3 season.
  11. It doesn't seem like the Hill contract is a low risk contract. He has $9.5 million in incentives which can be met by pitching 75 innings. So that would be $12.5 million for 75 innings. He better be very good in the first 70 innings or you probably have to cut him. Which sounds like a good players contract, not a great team contract.
  12. It's perfectly reasonable to access trades/free agent as of today. I just wouldn't call a free agent that makes the 25 man roster a "huge haul". Same as a prospect making the 40 man roster. You might want to give it a minute.
  13. Just adding plays to the 40 man roster and claiming a trade a win, seems to be a pretty low bar we've set for this front office. Maybe we should wait to see if they actually contribute anything at the major league before we call this a huge haul.
  14. 3. Sign RHP Jake Odorizzi for three years, $36 million If this is Odorizzi market price, he better grab the qualifying offer. $18m for one year, if he does anything he'll get more than another $18m over the next 2 years.
  15. Yes, I believe it's by league. So the Twins would have had preference over the National League.
  16. The Twins would have been one of the last teams to get a waiver claim based on their record. So he seems like someone who they could later put through waivers and open up the 40 man roster spot and still keep him. Nothing wrong if they are just playing the waiver game.
  17. The fact they got players nowhere near the level of our top 2 is my point. If the reporting was correct, they were requiring either Lewis or Kiriloff in the deal. They looked at the rest of our system and were either not offered enough or didn't think anyone else in our system was better than the players the Met's offer unless the Twins included one of the top 2 players. I find it hard to believe Toronto accepted a lesser deal from New York than what the Twins were able to offer just because the Twins wouldn't include Lewis or Kiriloff. They must have not have considered the other Twins prospects at the level of the Met's prospects.
  18. It maybe a questions of can they. At the trade deadline, they only had trade interest in Kiriloff and Lewis. One of them had to be included in the trade to get Marcus Stroman. Considering what he ended up getting traded for, you have to wonder if we overrating the farm system.
  19. I would be surprised if Colorado traded Gray for position players. Colorado is not a park pitchers want to pitch in, so they have tried to develop pitchers. They can always sign position players who want to play in Colorado. If the Twins want Gray, they are going to have to give up pitching prospects. I think Boyd is a more likely option. During the race, nobody wanted to trade major league players, but the off-season is different. If the Twins have confidence in their minor league system, they should be able to make some of the major league talent available.
  20. Agree, they have been successful in converting the top prospects from starter to relief pitchers, but some of the prospects need to develop into MLB caliber starting pitchers. Relief pitching is up and down, so we might want to wait for additional proof before calling the Twins bullpen elite. But it's taken a nice step forward during the second half of the season.
  21. Doesn't Falvey have 2 more years on his contract with the Twins? I'm not sure taking the job is going to be his decision. The Twins would have to agree to let him interview and I'm assuming they would not let him go unless they get compensation.
  22. Is Buxton the key for the Twins winning way? Paul Molitor says Yes
  23. The FO told at the start of the season they were going to wait to see how the season developed before making a big addition. Now we are a contender and have been trading for assets the last 2 years. I think the team as developed a lot faster than they had planned. The first year they sold at the trade deadline and the team go hot and made the playoff. Last year must have thought they were farther away from being a playoff team since they traded assets that would have been great to have this year. It will be very telling of the FO based on what they do this trade deadline. If they are not ready to make a move this year, when will they be ready?
