    Clearly moves have to be made. The problem is that you need trade partners. I'd look to move Rosario, Sano, and Buxton. I don't really see any of these players signing long term extensions and being productive. Who's going to bite for players with bad injury histories and/or inconsistent play though?

    This is a tough roster to crack for a bat first player with a high K rate. Hopefully we do see him in the majors somewhere this year.

    Good article. Easy to be frustrated with the front office when they are unable to sign players. The fact is that there are always things that are out of their control. This signing proves that they have been making serious offers to the players that the team needs to contend. It bodes well for the future.

    Bold move Cotton!.. Surely this is plan C, but they still made a move. I believe the Twin's really have a front office that can and will win.

    As far as we know the Twins gave Donaldson the highest offer. 4 years at 100 million is more than fair. He's rebuilt his value, but there was a reason it was down in the first place. They may have failed at signing any of the impact free agents, but they did try. It's more than the Twins ever did under previous management.

    I really wanted the Twins to sign Ryu, but free agency has been crazy this year. 4 years 80 million from Toronto? Didn't they just trade Marcus Stroman at the deadline? By the time they're in contention that contract will be an albatross. It would of been worth a bad contract to get Cole or Strasburg (who weren't coming here anyways), but not Ryu or Madbum. Sometimes it's just better to do nothing. Alex Wood is still a good pick up. He always had good stuff when healthy and we need a lefty. If it doesn't work out the contract will not hurt us. Outside of that the Twin's will just need to develop pitching. Haven't seen it from them yet, but it's been the stated focus of the franchise since Terry Ryan was fired.

    There's just too many red flags with MadBum. Looks like he hit his peak in 2016 and has been declining ever since. If he was worth 20 million per year the Giants would sign him (Any one hear remember Sam Dyson from a couple months ago?). No reason for the Twin's to pay for past performance. Hard pass.

    What I really like about this is that it shows Odorizzi is confident he will be good next year. I think it's time for the Twins to go all in for a title shot! At least as far as spending in free agency. Need to keep some high end prospects to replace players we will not be able to afford in a couple years.

    Great to have you here Travis! I always thought of you as the Twin's 3rd baseman of the future. Who do you think is most likely take over that position? There are a lot of good players in the Twin's system, so I understand it's a tough question.

    Errrgh.... on the plus side, there isn't going to be high expectations in the playoffs this year. Perhaps that will allow the team to play their best baseball.

    The low payroll really hurt the teams Joe played for as well. Imagine if they'd of hung on to guys like Ortiz, Hunter, and Santana (may not of had the injury if it wasn't for that insane 134 pitch no-hitter). Unfortunately with the injury as well, I just don't see him getting into the hall of fame. Joe is still one of the all time great Twins.

    I like this pick because I'm from Forest Lake. Doesn't seem like an organizational need though. Might be time to start trading outfielders.

    Reports said the Twin's scouts loved this guy. Have to go with what your scouts say. Hope this works out.

    There's no way that the Twin's trade top prospects for players making 20+ million a year. It's just not wise to put all of your eggs in one basket. Not to mention Falvey has explicitly stated he's wary of large contracts. You really don't even see large market teams making trades like that anymore (Remember the Giancarlo Stanton trade). Hopefully the Twins can move some of their middling prospects that are on the 40-man roster, but that can be hard to do. Either way the Twins are winning now and things look bright for the future as well.

    Man.........You just had to mention Aaron Hicks. Come on bro. That's salt in the wound. Might as well mention how the Twins gave up on David Ortiz to save a few bucks in arbitration.

    This is a good ranking for Gordon. He's always been overhyped due to his pedigree and high draft position. His best comp IMHP is Niko Goodrum. Who had a better MILB career and the Twin's gave away for nothing. Could Gordon be a below average player in MLB? Probably. That will never help the Twins win games though.

    Cruz may be declining, but he had a significantly higher OPS last season than any of the starters on the Twin's current roster. We also got him on a pretty good contract. I can't see anything wrong with this signing.

    Nobody likes a 10+ year rebuild, but things are what they are. If Buxton and Sano don't work out it may be a 14 year rebuild. What can you do?

    Nick Blackburn had a career 2.0 BB9, 5.4 SO9, and 3.65 ERA in the minors. 3.5 BB9, 6.4 SO9, and 3.38 ERA for Stewart. That's an awful lot of walks for someone who doesn't strike people out. Stewarts success in mlb came agains bad teams. Overall production wasn't great. He's going to have to develop a swing and miss pitch and/or significantly improve his control to have any kind of career in MLB. It would be nice to see this happen, but I wouldn't bet on it.

    I think it is important to remember that free agent signings haven't been working out well for most teams in baseball. Sure the Twin's one year deals didn't work out great either, but at least they're not stuck with any bad contracts. If the Twin's are going to compete next year it's largely going to be on the shoulders of the young players. Luckily that is pretty much the entire team and we still have prospects on the way. Last year likely was a aberration and we could see a ton of improvement next year. I think the right move this offseason is to improve the bullpen and add a quality player to the infield. If things go well, then try to trade for a star player during the season.

    Pretty wild idea's. You may be able to sell me on 2 and 4. IMHP Kepler doesn't have any value at 1st and May is already a failed starter, so I can't go along with 1 and 3.
