  1. I can only point to the Angels with the two best AL players - how often have they won. Where would we have finished without Correa. Sorry I do not see a long term extravagant contract to Correa doing us any good. And I repeat - Houston let Pena play and get a 4.8 WAR as a rookie while we had Correa with 5.4 WAR. For those who like HRs both hit 22. Correa had one more AB. Pena - $700,000, Correa $35,000,000. Is .5 WAR worth .6 WAR? I agree that Houston has a better all around team, but Correa is not taking us to the playoffs and that money can be spent better in other ways. One position player does not make a team great. I know this will upset many of you who want to see the Twins spend money, but I am not one who buys into this get Correa quickly - we cannot afford to lose him. For the majority of the season he was average - then he made his salary push for the end of the season and the results? He looks better, the Twins team stunk.
  2. No! I am completely for moving on. SS remorse is ahead for a lot of teams overpaying for players who will be moved to 2B or 3B. Does Houston miss him? Pena is cheaper, younger, and doing well. We have three potential young replacements - save the money and get a really good pitcher.
  3. Not excited by Enlow, never have been. Stashak does not have the qualities we need, but I would DFA Pagan first.
  4. I loved your details in this, but still maintain that we need hits - I am not against HRs. I just like a complete approach to the game.
  5. It is always fun to see things that challenge our viewpoint. I do like the idea of Arraez at third base. I hope that celestino continues to be our bench our fielder and ready to jump in when Buxton goes back to the hospital. After watching the Houston Astros and their rookie shortstop defeat Seattle last night I have to shake my head at how much we're paying Correa.
  6. I really enjoyed that. What a great look back and what a reminder of how hard it is to count on minor league pitchers to succeed in the majors. We're seeing some of that right now with our top prospects. I hope you will do this with some of the other years as well
  7. One last thought. Houston believed in this young shortstop and it has paid off. For more than 40 million a year less they have filled that position. Now we need to get our young guys in that shortstop.
  8. If you watched the playoff games last night you saw teams win with singles and multiple hits in San Diego and Cleveland. These teams wouldn't give up and didn't play for just a home run. There is a lesson there. I also saw some stolen bases, bunts and pitchers going more than one inning. We also saw some very good managers who are not tied to their computers. I love seeing the guardians who everybody has underestimated. They may not win it all, but they beat the Yankees two game so far. I hope Rocco is still watching and learning from them.
  9. Did anyone notice that the Guardians beat the Yankees today and won a playoff game with bloop singles. Oh, wait, you have to have exit velocity to win - right? I love the way the Guardians play. Rocco - please look up from your computer and watch Francona manage.
  10. I just watched MLB.com talk about Bruce Sutter who averaged almost 2 innings per relief appearance at his peak - a number of years. Starters pitching more innings, relievers pitching more innings. What a difference and not a good one. We need some new paradigms.
  11. Okay - I like Gladden - so you do not. I question Rocco - you do not. The training staff is a scape goat - maybe they are guilty. Nothing can be proved, but at the end of the season if you read the TD posts a lot of very strong Twin followers are ready for the Vikings or some other alternatives and the attendance was down. Fun to exchange these notes, but in the long run, neither of us will change our minds.
  12. It is all about prospects - If the Twins think their farm covers their needs we will have no big signings. This is not a team that goes that big. We sign Donaldson and soon see that was bad so we trade him. We sign Correa but know he will opt out after one big year. I do not expect anything earthshaking.
  13. Attendance down Enthusiasm for the team low Bad ending which is damaging to fan enthusiasm Too many injuries - they got rid of the trainer Returning from injuries not coming close to projections Not enough quality pitchers The best starter frustrated with the early hook Not enough RP to cover all the Rocco innings Poor fielding Poor baserunning We exceeded projections most of the season, then exceeded them in the wrong way So we bring back the same coaching staff. We get rid of Smeltzer and Cave. Correa Opts out (how much would we have to pay him this time? Better do some things to bring the enthusiasm level back up or the first item on my list will not rise next year. Maybe Varland continues the trend of rookie Starting day pitchers and Wallner is in RF and they work the hometown angle to get the fans - who else do we have from MN?
  14. Not excited about these options - in many ways Kiner-Falefa was the perfect signing. He had 2.9 WAR and less power than Correa, but he had decent ABs - better than many of our players and would have been with us another year. I know he was the price we paid to get rid of Donaldson, but.... None of the high enders should become Twins - I do not like the long term megabuck deals and there will be a lot of buy remorse in a few years. I do like the KC ide However I also think that Martin is the real answer - and even possibly a high rising Lee (I would love that). Forget overpaying and hoping for luck from without.
  15. I enjoy and appreciate what Arraez does and I am happy with him as MVP - the slump in the second half holds back some of my enthusiasm. During this year my admiration for Miranda increased and my expectations for him are high. He had a difficult start, but then was the one Twin who knew how to hit with RISP! 268/325/426 are impacted by his start, but one stat 66 RBIs is the key for me. This rookie led the team in RBIs. Correa was second. Nick Gordon would be up on my list too - he did everything we needed - infield and outfield and hit 272 with at 753 OPS. Buxton did not play enough to rank for me. It seems like every year is a SSS and everyone gets excited. But my rankings would be: Arraez Miranda Correa Gordon Ryan Duran For MVP I prefer position players so Ryan and Duran being last on my list only means they would be first in Pitcher of the year.
  16. We have Urshela and Miranda and then there is Julien. Keep Lewis at SS until Lee pushes him out.
  17. Carmago is the only one worth talking about. Anyone who has potential at Catcher is a keeper..
  18. Hard for me to choose - I still think Ryan from opening day to the most dependable starter all year would get my vote, but I love Duran.
  19. Pitching is key - if we believe in Lewis then it is not worth spending big on SS. Congratulations to Palacios - he might make an impact with Detroit.
  20. I am delighted with Gordon and the joy he adds to a team that too often seems to lack fire. I might add Ryan to this list as well.
  21. Well they are retaining all their coaches in all their positions - so much for progress. That was a buzzkill announcement.
