  1. To beat the Dodgers, you have to hope their pitching isn't working, and avoid their best hitters. Unfortunately, the pitching almost always works and their hitters are all really good. I didn't learn much about the Twins over the last two days that I didn't already know. We will struggle to beat the Dodgers, and so will everyone else a lot of days. Seattle was almost a playoff team. I want to see how we do against some other teams before I panic too much Oh yeah, and I want to replace at least three guys in the bullpen.
  2. I gotta say, if you had given me the actual ERA outcome on the first five starters before the season started, I would have definitely bet the Over and started dreaming about how to spend my winnings. Let's hope they can build on this.
  3. I'm really, really surprised about Larnach. I guess they want him to OPS 1.000 for a little while and make sure his swing his back. I hope he fights his way to the majors soon.
  4. This gives us twice as many chances to find a solid starter on the cheap. Maybe we go 0-2, but we have more opportunity to have at least 1. And all it "cost" us was a little money and moving Thorpe off the roster but keeping him in the organization, in case that ends up being worth anything. This buys us time, maybe a little but maybe a lot, to see what else is out there, and to see whether any of the minor leaguers are ready to step up. I agree with RiverBrian, the only big problem here is if both Archer and Bundy are ineffective and we keep riding them hoping they improve. We need a short leash. If something doesn't work, doing it harder with more enthusiasm is not a great strategy.
  5. This is even better than that time we signed...well...anyone ever.
  6. I could only watch the first 1:30 of the Sanchez clip. That was absolutely brutal. I would have laughed if only he were still a Yankee. Maybe he needs a really, really big glove? An insulated trash can lid, perhaps?
  7. We'll see. Hitters don't usually go from bad to good at this stage in their careers, but they do sometimes go from good to bad to good again. I'm antsy. You give us 3 trades in a day and a half and now nothing? Quit ghosting us, Front Office!
  8. My only opinion on this is that I have no idea what is happening. I don't mind trading Donaldson- he's an asset, a valuable guy on the team, but he's a huge injury risk- but I was thinking we might actually get something really useful for him. Hopefully that is how this chain ends. In the meantime, I'm kind of dizzy and I think I should sit down for a while.
  9. And just like that, the trio is broken up. Sorry for them. I hope Texas is as welcoming.
  10. Thank you. Very interesting and informative story. I hope all three women have a great season!
  11. Agreed, not bad picks overall. Garza and Hicks were terrible trades, that's beyond question.
  12. Does anyone have an email address for the commissioner's office so I can directly express my thoughts about the process so far? I'd love to send them some input, recognizing that no one would likely ever read to the third sentence.
  13. I just went to mlb.com and cancelled my auto-renewal and removed my credit card from the site. No more money from big dog for a while. I'm sick of this crap. There's obviously no social contract here whatsoever. It's just a way for more people to get rich. I'm not playing along.
  14. Yeah, this was a huge trade. It seemed like a big risk at the time, but not for long. Don Baylor for PTBNL Enrique Rios in 1987 worked out pretty well. It was way bigger than getting Pat Putnam for PTBNL Carson Carroll in 1984, or Chris Spier for a PTBNL in the same year.
  15. Dude wants to try ice fishing. That's Twins Hall of Fame credentials right there. Bring him north! Oh, and get this settled and play.
  16. Fernando Martinez was a young Ted Williams...the 9-year-old version. Go-go was a lot of fun. Milwaukee finally got a good outfielder, but they had to wait a bit for it. OPS+ his first two years were 76 and 82, then a 101 and a couple of really good years after those.
  17. Agreed. If I had to bet on one it would be Lewis, and I wouldn't even think about it. I think Lewis is going to help this team fairly soon, just not sure how much. Cavaco? I hope he has a better career than Javier has so far, but that's not asking for much. At this point I don't see a major league future for him, though of course he could certainly change that with a big jump this year. I'd bet the under, though.
  18. That's pretty great. Nice to get to lace 'em up again, I bet.
  19. Pinto might have been able to continue his success if he hadn't been hit in the head with a backswing by Adam Jones. Three times in the same game. Had been struggling a bit that year before it happened, but never bounced back. I don't believe the Twins ever retaliated against Jones. Right or wrong, I can't believe he didn't get dusted.
