Wrong! They have ONE 3Bman--and he has been Banished to 1B so the others can humiliate themselves in the field. Though one is kissing his elbow while screaming "OOwiee!!".
You aren't the only one skeptical that a Twins prospect will suddenly perform at a high level! What I have seen from the Twins minor leagues for the past 5 years has underwhelmed mightily compare to the hype from the Twins.
The Twins may have to trade Dozier next year. Assuming the Twins are still losing, and with a poor quality pitching staff, I can imagine Dozier thinking: "Why would I stay here? Mauer signed for 8 years and never got a sniff of the playoffs, much less the World Series. I can sign with a big-market team that will surround me with quality and this team will contend every year. I don't want to be Mauer 2nd and beat my head against the wall for the rest of my career."
The Strib report (today's edition) had an answer from DSP that the "process for a new GM may not be completed before season's end. The delay is caused by contacts with people in other organizations that are in playoff contention and/or likely inclusion. I infer that Anthony is interim only as "the top BB guy".
A trade of a RH Nolasco, a chronic back pain (Meyer) and $4MM for a LH Nolasco (Santiago) and a PTBNL who actually has a name (Busenitz). Considering half of this forum would have traded Nolasco and $4MM for a cheeseburger, I'm expecting unrestrained joyful posts for all of August. This is far more than I expected from any trades so I'm pleased. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Nolasco improves 1/2 run allowed per game by going to Anaheim.
It's curious how the tone of posts have mellowed: Initially "Great", "Love it", to "not as good as it first looked", "something interesting", "not a bad thing"... . I wonder what people will be posting next summer.
The real point of this post is that there are plenty of good to excellent players past the first few selections. There is talent out there--find it! The Twins "found" Morneau in the 3rd round.
Allow me to use a different angle--were these results so good that if Johnson were replaced we would expect future results to regress? Making replacements in management is quite typical (expected) when a new top executive is hired. Shaking an organization up shows that past results weren't good enough and that's why a change was made in the first place!
