  1. You should be able to borrow those glasses from one of the many posters on TD. A possible contributor to draft "failures" is: "we like what you've done--now change to do things our way." If a prospect "doesn't get it, they dump him.
  2. Vargas's swing is like Arcia's--and he will be susceptible to fastballs up. I wonder if the new administration is like the previous with respect to "he's out of options--so put him on the team"?
  3. Something about the Gonsalves write-up seems puzzling. After much praise comes the statement: "It was a terrible 2016 season for Gonsalves". What up?
  4. Most Improved--Has to be Buxton. Last year he was basically overwhelmed--started this year likewise. Dozier had 3.5 great months, and of course he was withthe Twins given his contract and all, while Buxton went to Rochester. Buxton's September/October equaled Dozier's August. The outlier is that Dozier was a proven veteran who had demonstrated both SLG and consistency, but Buxton was making rumbles like a bust--until his final recall.
  5. My observation is very similar. The recent Twins pitchers that frequently pitch inside [e.g. Liriano and Perkins] basically were only effective inside (to a RHB) and command on the other side was haphazard. It is almost like pitcher's only command the K zone away and when they pitch inside, it's way too inside to get the batter to swing. Plus, the Twins seem reluctant (more than others...) to hit batters.
  6. Pitching has been a bleeding ulcer for years, not just this season. The lack of quality pitchers progressing from the ranks is alarming. It wasn't that long ago that posters constantly harped about P2C as the Twins strategy. The term was banned from the organization--but how much actually changed? Consider Hector Santiago. He was having overall success with the Angels, though "his walks were High"?--whatever that means. The Twins deemed "change" was in order--and Santiago was getting clobbered. He "changed back" according to reports--and so did his results! The best change (improvement) will likely come now that Ryan isn't around to enforce his theory of pitching--provided his "disciples" are also replaced. Cleveland wasn't known as a pitching factory (over time), but the recent results are very encouraging and hopefully duplicated here.
  7. If there's an old, grey-haired French woman knitting outside of 1 Twins Way come Monday, we will know that things are off to a "good start".
  8. I wonder what Molitor will do when he doesn't have an 11-man bullpen?
  9. Bars and clubs open late in Chicago, 4am sometimes even later.
  10. What happened to last year's Duffey? This game smells like Chanel #103.
  11. Draft the best college starting pitcher projected. They are often 21-22 years old. Draft him in '17, a September '18 cup-of-coffee, and then seriously compete for a starting job for '19 as a 23 or 24 year-old. that's plenty old enough to challenge the guy. Plus, the Twins get three option years if he struggles. Jettison the old "step-at-a-year progression" and trust in the original evaluation that you drafted correctly. If he fails, he fails. It hasn't been proved that 5 years in the minors is required for top talent to develop.
  12. What did Vargas do wrong? Beresford is starting at 1B and Grossman (!) is DH. I guess Suzuki said no. Escobar at SS--since Ryan is gone, I guess this is how Molitor punishes Polanco for his "errors".
  13. Seeing that HRs are way up across baseball something has changed! A "juiced" baseball maybe? Dozier wasn't the only player to experience a huge increase come summer. Or, is it a change in hitting style? Perhaps the pitchers aren't very good? But basically across all MLB? A headscratcher? Or a conspiracy theory grist mill?
  14. Ryan would have responded: "I let you start Danny Santana....". Molitor's cred was shot.
  15. Interviewing Anthony for the PBOp ensures that he won't be the GM--no one hires a rival to work for them!
  16. I refuse to copy that photo--but there are even more disgusting photos out there.
  17. Yeah, Dick explained it--humorous. Why was I watching the top of the 8th inning?
  18. There are power hitters growing right now. Sano, Buxton (i saw a graphic on TV he hit 7 since 9/1), Kepler, Vargas. Will any reach 40 in a season? Probably not--but enough power for the entire team to be near 200 in a season--which averages to about 1-1/4 per game! Tis enough HRs. Pitching--Ouch! A major need there. Probably 3 SPs and 3 RPs at least.
  19. Every Twins pitcher should be doing some "experimenting" while this season is being "mopped-up". I haven't followed Tonkin close enough to know if/what he doing differently, but I tend to ignore results during this period. It will be in Spring training that I want to take a very close look at Tonkin to assess whether he has improved. If he hasn't, then waive him him. If somebody claims him, so be it. Else back to Rochester to see if he can't find a useful second pitch.
  20. Your entire argument is "stats tell all". I don't believe that. Most Valuable Player is the award. Is there a cause/effect relationship between player and team? Ex: there was a year where Steve Carlton won a ton of games--nearly half of what PHL won that season. They were an awful team--except when Carlton pitched! My point was Dozier was ancillary to the Twins performance. An MVP should make his teammates better players, hence a better team. Was Dozier that player? It likely isn't cut and dried this year over who should be MVP in the AL, but I don't see Dozier as MVP. I see him as a savvy guy who knows MLB pays huge for HRs, even as the lead-off hitter (where he is his most effective).
