Twins Daily 2023 Top Prospects: #10 Austin Martin, SS
TNTwinsFan replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
A Mookie Betts payer comp?! A 55 Power rating?! Now I need to see a side by side Minors Stats comparison...no way he's a Mookie Betts comp. Edit: Just looked it up. Betts slugged 200 points higher and OBPd 40 points higher than Martin in AA at a yonger age. th talent evaluators were off on this one.- 83 replies

I thought I read that the procedure he had was relatively experimental or at least not much of a track record for athletes. Can anyone confirm this? Also, as others have pointed out (and especially under the supervision and counsel of the new Trainer who is said to be among the best) the Twins staff have more data on their players than anyone else. My first thought after the Arraez trade was: oh, they must believe Kirilloff's wrist will be ready to go, or, Farmer is at 3B and Miranda mans 1B. I dont hate either option.

This. If both Cabrera and Luzardo can be had I'd send Arraez, Kepler, and Grey or Mahle. Give me 4-6 years of control with those young guns and I think the Twins have themselves SOLID rotation for a while. For me Arraez is too one-dimentonal and I think at is at peak trade value now with adequate talent to fill his spot; Sell High Now.

"Now he's giving up $35 million from the first agreed-upon contract to settle for a lesser deal with New York, because – in Boras' own words – the Giants wanted to conduct more investigation on the second-largest contract in major-league history. "They advised us they still had questions," he said. "They still wanted to talk to other people, other doctors, go through it." Sounds like the Twins sang a similar tune, and that was also a deal-breaker." I've been following the Twins for about years now. Been on TwinsDaily for over a decade. The amount of doubt and vitrol this front office receives for their decisions or seeming lack thereof really needs to be tempered. Its so easy to sit back and "arm chair quarterback" these decisions as if they are being made while playing the latest version of a MLB video game. You really think these guys are making multi-million dollar decisions on a whim?! You think they don't see at least what you see and more? Everyone makes mistakes, but wow, I'm tired of reading folks get on here and type thousands of words acting as if they know better. I've made some suggestIons abut who I'd like to see them sign, but, I know its not so easy. Just realize theres much more to the story than you might think.

Dodged a bullet there. He'll be an above average SS for about 4 years (though not a great one.) After that I think it might be diminishing returns. Plan on Royce and Brooks to lead the way in the future with both being in Minnesota by end of this year or next. Again, I say lock up the Starting Pitchers you think will provide a good Playoff Rotation for you and see what younger pitchers develop. Buxton, Lewis, Lee, are a good core tobuild around.
-
I'm not signing Dansby if he's asking for close to $200m. Dude's 28 and *just* put it all together. I'd rather see the Twins roll with Farmer until Lewis returns. I'm also not spending on Carlos Rodon. Trade a couple outfielders and some other assets (Arraez, Polanco) and reset a bit this year. Maybe focus on locking up some of the new pitching the Twins received in last year's trades and find out what you have with Lewis, Miranda, Julien, Martin, etc.

Rumor: Bogaerts has gone to San Diego
TNTwinsFan replied to Doctor Gast's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
If the asking price for Correa approaches 12/$360m I'd say do it. $30m AAV is pretty reasonabe all things considered. -
At first glance youmight think there might be some intriguing arms on the FA market this off season: Rodon, Nola (obviously Club Option will be exercised), Severino (Club Option will also be exercised), Kershaw (age concerns), Verlander (age concerns), uh...most other available arms on the market have age or performance concerns. Not sure Bauer doesn't take that $35mm player option and chill at home (besides, if he declines, who's paying that dude to represnt their team?) Twins don't need Price, Sale, other aging, underperforming SPs. So it would seem that the Twins will need to go the trade route to upgrade their rotation. I believe there have been a few articles about potential trade targets. Top targets will probably require a heavy amount of Prospect Capital to acquire (think about just how much it would tke to pry someone like Alcantara away from the Marlins now!) Do the Twins have the stomach or even the Prospect Capital to completely gut their farm fo upgrades of that caliber? How would Twins Nation react? I'm not suggesting its a hopeless situation, just, more challenging than I initially thought. I also get the impression that somethink we can jus go out and buy or trade for upgrades at the drop of a hat. I think Twins fans are in for a long winter.

Ranking the Top-5 Remaining Free Agent Shortstops
TNTwinsFan replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
MLBTR made mention that ATL may be in the market to sign Correa, making Swanson available for trade...has 1 year remaining on current contract, I'd be ok to send a Top 20-30 prospect (or straight cash homie) ATLs way for a 1 year flier on Swanson. Maybe offer him an extention for another 1-2 years? I like him better the the above alternatives (Twins are not signing Top 2 guys on this list.)- 34 replies

Starting Pitching Trade Partners: Cincinnati Reds
TNTwinsFan replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think if I'm the Twins, I roll with the plan of using 2022 to evaluate my young guns for a run in 2023. I'm not trading pitching prospects for MLB starting pitching. I'm not trading catching depth for starting pitching. I'm not trading Royce for starting pitching (unless it blows me away...young, proven, starting pitching.) Ryan, Ober, Winder, Canterino, Balazovic, etc, all get time in the rotation this year. Sure, bring back Pineda and maybe one other veteran to teach and coach those young guys (maybe a future HOFer?)...the Twins are not a playoff team in 2022. But, they are a playoff caliber team in 2023 and beyond if their current crop of young pitching gets seasoned in 2022.- 23 replies

How Much Can The Twins Spend This Offseason?
TNTwinsFan replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Did we all forget about Rob “Lightning in a Bottle” Refsnyder?! Where does he fit into next year’s roster?! Super Utility Man of the Year!!! -
Would really enjoy them signing Ozuna to a multi-year deal. Perhaps a "glutton" of resources in the OF and the DH position, but, when was having too much offense a bad thing? It wouldn't be at the expense of pitching or defense either. Defense is wrapped up and Ozuna is probably not worse than Kiriloff in LF. Cruz retires after this year and Ozuna/Sano step into primary DH over the next couple of years. Kiriloff in LF full-time then. As for pitching, I trust in the Falvine braintrust to find a couple of cheap gems in this year's RP Free Agent class (if they haven't already.) Come at me bro!
