  1. If Jose DeLeon was the offer for 40 HR Brian Dozier with another year of team control, this looks like a king's ransom.
  2. Raley has OPS'ed over .800 the last 2 years despite being about half a year younger than league average. I foresee Twins OF 1B DH spots getting crowded in the near future. If that means a slugger at DH, I am all for it. We haven't had a good one in the longest while.
  3. Liked Dozier, but just looking at the HR numbers you can see the peak is in the rear view mirror at 31. 6, 18, 23, 28, 42, 34, 16+ He never really became that complete hitter - he had a great hit up the middle last night, but those efforts were just too few and far between.
  4. Odd parallel: Logan Forsythe hit 20 homers his last season in Tampa. Logan Morrison hit 38 homers his last season in Tampa. Since leaving TB both Logans have struggled at the plate. Lesson learned: don't pick up guys from TB named Logan.
  5. Falvine doesn't mess around - very glad to see the cycle going around. Dozier certainly has the hair to be a Dodger.
  6. Dozier's value is sinking to the point that if the Twins do keep him and qualify him, and he opts for free agency, he may find teams reluctant to give up the pick they'd surrender for signing him.
  7. 15 Home runs in about half a season of ML experience, so he does have some power. 26 isn't quite Hazelbaker territory.
  8. LaVelle mentioned in today's S-Trib that the Twins made an effort to try and extend Escobar during the season, but were unable to generate any momentum. So it's not for lack of trying.
  9. You start the season with a group of players, and they determine where you end up - sorry, but this particular group just isn't up to snuff. Losing Buxton, Sano, Castro, Polanco, and Santana was just too big a hole to dig out of. Keeping Pressly and Eduardo was never going to change that.
  10. Agree - be a winning team first. Playoffs for this team, 2018 version, is a laughable proposition.
  11. Yeah, true. However, who on this team is going to rise to the challenge? Rosario is a gamer, and so is Berrios. The rest? Mauer, Dozier, these guys are milque-toast. Watched the great post someone made about the Morris game 7 win in 91. Those guys had winner attitude. We got a bunch of nice guys who lack that "we gonna kick yo ass" attitude.
  12. This team has more "deer in the headlights" about it than championship swagger. I like the recent moves and am hoping for more.
  13. Wow - Bold - I like it. Grabbing some nice prospects today. When the system overflows, the team will benefit, either through producing quality ML talent, or a surplus to get more ML talent. Celestino was signed by Houston out of the DR in 2015 for 2.5 million.
  14. Lynn can go - Gonsalves has been killing it in AAA. Get him some experience now. Addition by subtraction. Duke? Why not try Mota? Mejía? Dozier? Best keep him or the fans will revolt. Most Twins fans I know read the paper and don't know a hoot about fip or war or any of that stuff. Gotta still try. Not so sure a qualifying offer for him would be so damaging after the season Dozier has had. Could rebound next season, or get a nice pick.
  15. Bringing back Sano could make this look like genius asset management if he returns to form.
  16. Here is an article on Duran. He's a big kid, 6'5", 20 years old. http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/elgin-courier-news/sports/ct-abn-spt-baseball-cougars-jhoan-duran-st-0611-story.html Pretty good get imo.
  17. Bittersweet - all depends on the return. Well, they sold high, which is all you can ask of management.
  18. Twins won a WS with Brian Harper as catcher, a very good hitter who was deficient on the defense. I think Garver is better defensively, but a notch below offensively. I'd like to see the Twins turn it over to him next season, with Castro as backup.
  19. I'd rather keep Escobar and qualify him if the return is a marginal prospect or two. Clubhouse presence is often overblown, but I don't think it is in his case. The great Twins teams were known for their good chemistry. He adds a lot of versatility to the team as well. In the end you end up with a premium pick or another year of Escobar on a team that has another chance. What are the odds that the system's greatest needs, whatever they might be, will be met by trading him? I'd say slim. Better chance to address that with a top 100 pick next June.
  20. Surprised to see Britton fetch the Yankees #6 prospect per Baseball America. He seems pretty removed from his All-Star days, is a rental, and won't be eligible for a qualifying offer. Maybe there will be some desperate buyers out there after all.
  21. Well it is encouraging when someone starts off better than expected, especially a bonus pool saver.
  22. Another cool thing about Wade that bodes well for his future - he has had more walks than strikeouts every year in the minors, including 2018. Leads to some nice OPS numbers as well.
