  1. Any idea why Clay has never gotten a chance with the Twins? He was drafted and developed for the bullpen, and there are openings I hear.
  2. 17 saves. At the least, it takes pressure off Rogers, and puts the 2 inning save to bed. There wasn't anybody else in the Twin bullpen to trust with a save opportunity. Now there is.
  3. This type of trade has a spotty track record for the buyer, Archer being the prime example, but Sonny Gray didn't really work out for the Yankees, and there was the famous Shelby Miller for Dansby Swanson debacle. I'm sure the Blue Jays asking price would hurt, especially considering the Twins won't be alone in bidding for his services. It would likely take more than prospects you are comfortable giving up like Gonsalves, Duran, or Gordon.
  4. As the trade talks heat up, one guy I hope the Twins take off the table is Balazovic. There is an article about him in the Athletic, and he sounds like Berrios 2.0 with the work ethic, but in a 6'4" frame and with an emerging change-up to compliment the mid 90s heat. This guy has future ace written all over him. Sorry if you aren't a subscriber: https://theathletic.com/1080988/2019/07/17/as-trade-deadline-nears-twins-prospect-jordan-balazovic-continues-to-impress/
  5. MLB just posted "5 trade ideas so crazy they might just work," which had the Twins acquiring Stroman and Giles for a package of Graterol, Javier, Jax, Maciel, and Widell. https://www.mlb.com/news/5-trade-ideas-as-deadline-approaches I think the Twins would take that deal in a heartbeat.
  6. I'm pretty sure Matt Lawton was part of the Soul Patrol, with Hunter and Jones.
  7. Great trade for the Twins: Odorizzi has become an All-Star. Unfortunately for TB, Palacios's offense has gone MIA for the last two seasons.
  8. Those top 3 prospects batting averages are somewhat discouraging: .233, .268, .163 .... It is July after all.
  9. It does suggest that the Sox will likely make the AL Central a three horse race as early as next year. Moncada and Giolito are indeed having themselves a really nice season. A hot 2nd half and they could even challenge for the WC this year.
  10. I like how quiet Rooker is as he's waiting for the pitch, and how simple the footwork is. Reminds me a bit of Molitor, except for the uppercut swing.
  11. When some players bat or pitch, they call it "must see" tv. When Parker pitches, it's "go make a sandwich" tv.
  12. Wow, my #1 target this off season, for pennies on the dollar. Cmon Wes, fix him!
  13. For me, a guy to watch is Rijo at Cedar Rapids. Saw his previous start in person, and he brings 95 96 regularly. As I recall he gave up 1 hit in 5 or 6 innings that night, and here’s another good start. Big league stuff.
  14. Gordon handled high A ball pretty well, and he was 4 months younger than Lewis is now when he did it. He is 23, and had 1 hiccup in the second half of his first year at AAA. Otherwise he has more than held his own while competing with folks at least 2 years older than him on average. I do think latest greatest shiny new toys is a big part of popular rankings. He is not superstar material, but I’d be happy to see him and Arreaz battle it out for 2b next year while providing good trade value. As Seth said, he is a good ballplayer.
  15. Gordon has fallen out of favor around here it seems, but his is hitting .301 with an ops over .800 and 8 steals in 35 games.
  16. Broad, I suppose. With Nathan the Twins were getting a 29 year old that SF had converted to the pen just the year before and was serving as the 7th inning guy in a stacked bullpen. He notched 1 lone save as a Giant, his rookie season, then boom, 44 his first year with the Twins. Aguilera was used only as a starter his first season with the Twins before moving to the pen season 2, although the Mets may have started that transition when the Twins acquired him. "From within" meaning they were here, acquired with multiple other pieces in big trades in which they weren't the principal piece, and they had very little to no history of being a big time closer.
  17. There is a rich tradition in the Twins organization of getting their best relievers from within, and often by converting starters to relief roles: Perkins, Guardado, Nathan, Agiuilera. I don't think anybody predicted the success the above 4 had as closers after they got their first save, so who knows how far Littell, Rogers, May and Co. can go.
  18. Definitely would like to steer clear of dealing within the division.
  19. The Twins sit at 21 games over .500 After last night's loss, Cleveland drops back to 0 games over .500 That seems even more comforting than a 10.5 game lead.
  20. Pick 17 went to Edouard Montpetit HS. Pick 18 is named Edouard Julien. I bet that is the first time the name Edouard has appeared on back to back picks for an MLB team ever.
