  1. Safe to say that "targeting" and "acquiring" are entirely different things. The Twins have been very astute at the former....
  2. I think Tatis, as a 20 year old, with his .317 batting average, .969 OPS, 16 steals, and 22 HRs in 300+ at bats is out of this conversation. If WAR is the one and only measuring stick, his 4.2 in 80 some games is right there with Chapman. I will acknowledge that he did make a lot of errors, but SS and 3b aren't the same gig.
  3. That's way way way way way way way way too much. I don't even agree with the notion that Chapman is > Buxton all by himself.
  4. I'll play in the other direction. What if the Twins hadn't signed Nelson Cruz? Probably no way they even make the playoffs: that's how important I think he was to the team.
  5. Frankly I'd just roll with Cron and Sano: younger, cheaper, and they both performed well when healthy last season. Put the money into pitching. If they don't think Cron's thumb will be the same, then I'd pursue Kendrick.
  6. Gotta say, watching that Larnach vid, he really is the professional hitter the announcers claim - uses the whole field, and has pop both ways as well.
  7. I would make a priority target of this guy, and it appears about 20 GMs agree. • Elite stuff • Great pitcher physique at 6'4", 195. • Not yet 30 • For his age he has a pretty fresh arm: he's only pitched 463 innings in the last there years, since his TJ operation, and only 749 in his hole MLB career. For comparison, Bumgarner, who is 9 months older, has thrown 1,846 ML innings. Assuming reports are right and there are 20 teams looking at him, that puts the Twins baseline % of getting him at 5%. An awful lot will have to go right to make it happen, but given the status of the Twins, slight optimism is warranted.
  8. Another guy generally included in out top 10 prospects seems like he should get his shot before Kiriloff: I'm talking Brent Rooker. Yeah, he whiffs a lot, but he mashes too, very much the modern ballplayer. He's actually a left fielder as well. Falvey and company even spent a supplementary 1st on him, so the idea of Kiriloff leapfrogging him in seniority AND position ... I don't think so. He did well with Team USA this fall to boot.
  9. The Astros deserve zero credit for what Cole has achieved - #1 overall, he was a stud when they got him who was maturing into his prime. Now the acquisition part ....
  10. Interesting Jeremy. I'll pick a couple nits though. Between Rosario, Cron, and Castro, that's 70 bombas going out the door. The pitching would be better, but that's a lot of offense to dump at once. IMO Brent Rooker is much more MLB ready than Kiriloff at this point.
  11. If only it was as easy as walking into Pitchers R Us and picking what you want. Free agency is more akin to Black Friday at Walmart, with a real possibility of getting nothing but trampled.
  12. I see Rijo as a guy who would be easy to grab and stash in the pen, especially for a team with no hopes of competing, like Detroit. Came away very impressed when I saw him in Cedar Rapids. Hope they add him.
  13. Are there any front offices that haven't yet embraced advanced stats? Because Eddie's baseball card stats, the kind I grew up on, are outstanding: 32 HR, 109 RBI, .500 slugging. I do think it would create a hole in the lineup to get rid of him; it's already pretty heavy on right handed batters, and he routinely delivers big hits. Oh, and the swagger is real.
  14. Remember you well Travis. One thing I always thought, for you to corroborate or debunk: former professional baseball player looks good on a resume outside of baseball world. True or false?
  15. On the other hand, 47 out of 60 1st round and supplemental 1st rounders from 2012 have a lower career WAR than 12th rounder Taylor Rogers, including picks 5-10 overall. Works both ways. Sure, the Twins aren't perfect, but neither are the other teams. And if you wanna pick on Gordon, how about #1 and #2 from that draft, Brady Aiken and Tyler Kopek? At least Gordon will likely make the majors, whereas neither of those guys made it past A ball.
  16. For someone whose defense gets no love, I saw him scoop tons of errant throws from the left side of the infield,: he saved those guys a ton of errors.
  17. Not sure a leg bruise from a hit by pitch counts as falling apart. He ended July on a tear, and then his season was pretty much done. He hit .323 over his last 15 games. Marwin and Ehire are short term players, both into their 30s. Having some young, quality depth in the upper minors is not a bad thing.
  18. What they need is the equivalent of what Cruz was to the offense: a leader. Berrios, for all his quality, hasn't gotten there yet. Maybe next year he will. Odorizzi is close to that: we can make a QO, correct? Morris, Viola, every winner needs a gamer like that to lead them in the post-season.Having a deputy riding shotgun doesn't hurt either, i.e. Blyleven, Tapani/Erickson. If they could get someone */bumgarner/* to allow Berrios to slide into that #2 slot, they would be a threat. If they can keep Odo, and Big Mike, then is a pretty good start. The Twins have the pitchers to get to the post season - what's missing is the stud who can win there.
  19. Neither of whom is proven at the MLB level. Classic bird in hand is with two in the bush scenario.
  20. Hey John, gonna pick a nit "Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose" Kristoferson, Foster
  21. It wasn't until their 6th try that the Dodgers finally beat the Yankees in the World Series. How many times have they beaten the Twins in the playoffs? Hmmmm.....
  22. Win 93 games at least, and miss the playoffs? Ouch. 2 of their recent division crowns were won with 94 and 91 wins.
  23. If you want to open it up to all Minnesota bat and ball sports, how about a Bob Lurtsema Minnesota Goofys jersey?
