New Year's Resolutions for the Top 5 Twins Prospects
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Not sure I really agree with any of these resolutions. Lewis needs to get and stay healthy and prove he is a major league player, not sure he can prove he is a long term SS in half of a season or less, since I assume he will spend a few weeks in the minors before joining the Twins. If Lee proves he is the top prospect that will because he forced his way to majors, there is absolutely no reason for him to be in the minors (just to be in the minors) if he is that good and succeeding. Kind of the same with ERod if he proves 2022 wasn't a fluke he should fly though the upper minors and either be in MN or pounding on the door to say give me a chance. For Prielipp IMO he just needs to be healthy and actually deserving of even being a prospect. He will spend at least the next two years in the minors building up his innings, and that point will be almost 24. SWR not sure IMO he could do anything in spring training that would leap frog him over Mahle, Gray, Ryan, Ober so that leaves the 5th/6th spot and I think Varland deserves that spot. I would love to SWR earn a spot as the piggyback guy to the others. Since I think most will be limited at the beginning of the year.- 14 replies

Will the Real Trevor Larnach Please Stand Up
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Please refresh my memory again, are we talking about the stretch in late April though May where he faced Detroit 8 times, Tampa 3 times, Baltimore 4 times, Oakland once, and KC 5 times? In June he faced Det(2)Tor(3), NYY(3), TBR(3), Sea(2), Ar(3)i, Cle(3) and hit 2 homers, 1 double and went 8 for 63. Now sure it could have been the injury holding him back (if so another wonderful job by the Twins FO and Manager) or it could have been a combo of that and facing good teams instead of the terrible teams he faced prior? I like Laranch and think he could be a solid starting major league outfielder, but I don't see a future all star, he will be 26 when the season starts so IMO this is a make or break year for him and the Twins, if he isn't good or hurt again the Twins need to quite having him hold down a 40 man spot, and if he is good and healthy that is awesome and lots of things to do with him, keep him or trade him since he isn't a free agent until 2028.- 27 replies

I absolutely look into this and see what the Sox want and willing to pay to take him off their hands. Looks like he has 75 million left over the next three years plus that pesky 50 million from 35-39. Maybe the Sox cover the 50 million the twins throw in a couple of prospect and the Twins start the season with a 6 man rotation and see how it shakes out.

appreciate the time you put into this. The first trade is an absolute joke, if the twins could get Lopez for these two it would be done. For the Twins to get Lopez for 2 players (Pitcher/position player) it would be more like Lewis and Ober. The trade Simulator has your trade a 7 for 38.7. The second trade I don't see anyway the Twins do, trade a pitching prospect that is actually young (22 all of next season) for a 36 year old pitcher with no real spot in the rotation. The trade simulator has this the Twins receiving -4.7 and giving up 2. Again the 3rd one is a joke, if the Twins could get 25 year old Gilbert for Arraez it would be done, but that isn't going to be close to enough for Gilbert, maybe if the Twins added Ryan or Lee but that wouldn't be enough either. Teams don't trade good/great guys for other teams trash (not that Arraez is trash but...) The real problem with the Twins is they have no real trade chips that IMO they will be willing to trade. (Lee, Ryan, Duran) Polanco, Arraez, Miranda, Lewis, Ober and Larnach are decent trade chips but to get anything real it will take at least two of them and probably other prospects and if we are being honest besides Lewis and Miranda none of them are young (Arraez and Larnach are 25 so they are fairly young) Remember the twins got SWR and Martin and at the time were 21 and 22 I believe.

5 Reasons the Minnesota Twins Will Win in 2023
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Young players? Miranda(24), Lewis(23), Larnach(26), Gordon(27), Kiriloff(25), Varland(25), Winder(26), Ober(27) I would say Lewis and Miranda could be considered young, but the rest are not young. I mean Shane Bieber is like 1 month older than Ober and a year and a few months older than Winder. Comparing the Twins to the Braves for example: Albies (25), Riley(25), Harris(21), Acuna(24), Grissom(21), Strider (23), Andrson(24)- 51 replies

Rumor: A Potential Trade for Rafael Devers
TwinsDr2021 replied to Richard's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Based on the trade simulator Burnes value is between 62.7 and 94, Woodruff between 40.4 and 60.6 The highest Twins are Lee between 31.1 and 46.7, Ryan 30.9 and 46.3, Duran 29.6 and 44.4. So to get Burnes, Lee is absolutely going to be required and that gets you to about half way, so unless you are adding Ryan or Duran I don't see much of a chance. Woodruff I don't believe is the workhorse people might thing he is, he completed 7 innings only 3 times last year in 27 starts, and 8 in 30 starts the year before (which isn't bad) He kind of fits the mold of Gray and Ryan. Regardless he is still not going to come cheap. I think it starts with Lee and would need probably SWR and 2 more real good prospects. Maybe Arraez could be swapped in for Lee, but then the near tier of guys go up (Arraez, Lewis, SWR). The real problem with the Twins is they don't really have much chips (Lee, Ryan, Duran, Lewis, Ober, Arreaz, Polanco)- 52 replies

Rumor: A Potential Trade for Rafael Devers
TwinsDr2021 replied to Richard's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
You are talking about the Max Kepler with a lifetime .232 batting average and in 8 years once hit over .243 and that was .252 in 2019 (which of the 9 full time starters that year he was 8th)?- 52 replies

My thoughts on what the Twins are doing. Starting the season with Mahle, Gray, Ryan and Ober, like last year I think they start the season with 6 starters, those final two will be Maeda and Varland, the back up plan is to drop back to a 5 man rotation or adding one or more of WInder, SWR, Henriquez, Headrick to the rotation. If more than one prospect picks it up or Paddack is looking healthy, they can trade Mahle or Gray or both at the deadline, restocking prospects. Going into 2024 the Twins need 3 starters from the "pipeline", assuming Ryan, Ober, and Varland or SWR. In addition to those 3 Paddack will be the 4th starter and the 5th/6th starters will be another prospect. Now if prospects don't pan out we are looking at Bundy/Happ type signing. If this is the Twins plan they can always add a top end/ace type starter at the deadline or FA if you choose because they don't have any real money tied up in starting pitching and can trade prospects to get other needs if there is too many quality starters (Ha, ha like that has ever happened). Also by doing this plan they get to keep their pitching philosophy of facing 22/24 batters, lower innings (5/6/7) and low pitch count. You start paying real money to a starter and limiting them I am sure ownership and the player aren't going to be happy. Plus for example if they keep Joe Ryan to 180 innings or less, a ERA around 3.5, imagine other teams will be drooling over him come 2026 thinking they could get so much more out of him.

What Is Max Kepler’s Trade Value?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think Max has all that much trade value, sure he is a could fit for a team trying to win and has a minor league prospect pretty close and if said prospect proves he deserves a chance Max moves to a 4th outfielder role or if that prospect isn't ready Max is a solid but not great MLB outfielder. If the twins are looking at getting a starting pitcher back in a trade at least one and maybe more starting pitchers on the 40 man have to go. The Twins currently have 14 starters on the 40 man. And of those 14 only three haven't pitched in the majors (Headrick - 25, Enlow - 23, Balazovic - 24) and that doesn't include Canterino which I expect to be a relief pitcher. The problem being of those 14 only two are young - SWR and Henriquez at 22.- 65 replies

3 Twins Players Who Need to Step Up in 2023
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think this FO thinks it needs a top notch pitcher, I think they believe the team can succeed with Gray, Mahle, Ryan, Ober and handful of other starters (SWR, Varland, WInder, Maeda, and Paddock coming back) pitching to 22 to 24 batters faced a game. While I disagree with that, that is the conclusion I have came up with. Bringing somebody else in means Gray or Mahle has to go and after what they gave up to get those two I can't believe they would do that.- 29 replies

3 Twins Players Who Need to Step Up in 2023
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Just to let you know you are asking 35 year old coming off of TJ surgery to things he basically has never done. 25 starts (he has done that 3 times), 160 innings (he has done that once) and have an ERA below 3.30 is something he only has done once and that was in 11 starts. We are asking or hoping for things from Maeda that he has never been outside of 11 starts and more than likely never will be. Just to put in perspective his 11 starts in 2020 weren't that much different than Smeltzer's first 9 starts last year.- 29 replies

The Twins Know They Need Pitching, Right?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I could agree with that if he wasn't 26 and had a couple of years of 150 plus innings. He is a guy you ride and trade away with year and half of control for prospects.- 70 replies

The Twins Know They Need Pitching, Right?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Why do they need more starting pitching? They have Gray, Mahle, Ryan (26), Ober (27), Varland (25), Winder (26), SWR (22) and Paddock (26) coming back. Then for depth they have Maeda, Balazovic (24), Henriquez (22), Sands (25), Headrick(25), Enlow (23). (That is 14 starters on the 40 man) That is why to me it was DeGrom, Verlander, Kershaw (all not real possibilities or Rodon and trade Gray or not bother with starters. They have given a rookie a job the last two years Ober and Ryan. They need to give another rookie(s) a shot this year. So unless they plan on trading Gray or Mahle and replacing them with an obviously better starter there is zero reason IMO to continue to let the prospects rot. For the love of gosh most of these guys aren't even young and teams aren't looking to trade for prospects older than their establised pitchers. Why in the world would Miami trade Lopez(26) for any of the guys close to his age? This is way the Twins should be spending big on offensive because they haven't developed crap on that side, but actually have done a decent job on the pitching side.- 70 replies

The Joey Gallo signing makes sense, actually
TwinsDr2021 commented on Greggory Masterson's blog entry in Brewed in the Trough
Is the correct answer neither, let somebody else have the headache of hoping they get back to what they were a few years ago? But if you are going to make me pick, I probably pay Cody at tad bit more because he is 1 1/2 years younger. To me these are guys teams like the Tigers sign and if they get hot trade them at the deadline. I am not paying a prove it year deal without the option of picking up the next year. -
This started with me saying "If you aren't gong to play in that end of the pool you have to develop those players and as of now this FO hasn't show that ability," His response was "Buxton, Lewis, Miranda, Polanco, Arraez. Seems like we've developed a few players. Not even throwing in guys like Kirilloff or Larnach yet." As you can see I pointed out 5 of those 7 where already in the twins minor leagues and Lewis was handed to them with the first round (and as of today has done next to nothing in the majors) then I actually pointed out a few of the current FO draft picks/young guys traded for that could count as having done something in the majors (that list is pretty short). But to answer your question, if they get credit for Miranda and Arraez, do they get blame for Gonzo, Romero, Jay, Stewart, and others for failing? If your response is they failed everywhere, couldn't it be said that Miranda and Arraez would succeed anywhere? Do they get credit for developing Ryan, hard no; they do get credit for a seemingly brilliant trade though. Trading prospects for legit players isn't developing so again on Gray sure they get credit for a decent trade (which they have had a few), but that wasn't the point that started this.
-
Buxton, Miranda, Polanco, Arraez, and AK all here before this FO got here. Larnach and Lewis (basically given to them with the first pick) haven't done anything yet, except give big hope to the fans. So there is Jeffers, Ober, and Duran and who else? I am talking about players that have done something not guys that may do something (like Winder and Alcala)

Twins Need a Minnesota Miracle
TwinsDr2021 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins has signed Vazquez, Gallo, Bundy, Joe Smith, Coulombe, and Archer the last two years and you think we are placing too much value on Correa? I think most fans didn't think the Twins would sign Correa once let alone twice, but with all the available free agents the last two years the list above is what the Twins signed. It is sickening (but hey the Twins have been in on Rodon both times he was a free agent) and because that is what they signed they traded away how much last year to get Gray and Mahle, and most still don't think they staff is good enough to compete (I actually do) and if they want to upgrade basically anywhere they have to trade even more. That is my frustration with the Twins.- 81 replies

And yet the Twins have never spent for a second piece, Maybe things are different if they sign a Gausman/Ray or Rodon to go with Correa. Or maybe they signed Marte, Schwarber and one of the pitchers. My point was that teams that win have high price players, maybe not the highest priced players but really good guys that are consistent and healthy cost big bucks. If you aren't gong to play in that end of the pool you have to develop those players and as of now this FO hasn't show that ability, we as fans are still hoping some of the old FO players save the day.
-
First I want nothing to do with this FO office and a rebuild. I have said it before but will say it again, I don't believe they are getting a starting pitcher and don't think they should. They have Gray, Mahle, Ryan and Ober in the top 4 and need to continue to establish starters out of the minors. If that isn't a good enough top 4 to compete in this division then this FO has failed. What have they traded away to get Gray and Mahle and we want to trade more away to make up for that? No, doesn't make sense. That is way going after Rodon didn't make much sense either, unless the play was to trade Gray or Mahle after signing him. Sure if they want to trade scraps for a Chris Sale, somebody with possible huge upside then I say fine, lets stack him with Ober and what happens. They need to find a high price vet in a offensive position that is still good and go get him (Arenado/GoldSchimdt type) don't know if one exists but that is what they need to be looking for.
-
I don't because the Twins never had the second piece. j/k
-
Is this a bit misleading? I mean players with huge contracts have won the World Series. and the 20 largest is a moving target right? Signing players to huge contracts doesn't guarantee you anything, but have great players on your team sure does help. I could say something like every World Series winner since 2017 has had at least one player making over 20 million and at least one making over 15.
