What Now? 4 Pivots Following Carlos Correa's Departure

Not sure who's left for RH hitting OF, but I see that as another glaring hole.- 39 replies

I think those numbers will be quite a bit higher, after what we saw this off season, but even so, there should be plenty of $$ left over.

Gut Punch! Carlos Correa Signs with the Giants
Karbo replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would rather see the Twins sign a good RH hitting OF than spending big bucks on Rodon. -
I like the Vazquez signing. Big improvement over what we had last year.

Maybe instead of going out and spending lots of $$ on a low to mid level arm the Twins could look at extending Mahle and maybe Gray?

Christian Vazquez and Pitch Framing
Karbo replied to Lucas Seehafer PT's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The pitcher has to have the control to gat pitches called. A guy who is all over the place isn't going to get the calls no matter how good the catcher can frame, Jeffers has problems throwing out base stealers which is a moderate strength for Vazquez. This could be a huge advantage with the new rules. I firmly believe in the next few years balls and strikes will be called electronically. At least I hope so! -
The Latest on the Minnesota Twins and Carlos Correa
Karbo replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Reports in the Pioneer Press say he may be concerned about going through a rebuild. -
IMO they have to listen to all trade offers for pretty much anyone on the team. The only real question for me is getting max value out of a guy like Arraez.

Carlos Correa has great clubhouse presence, but what does that matter?
Karbo commented on Greggory Masterson's blog entry in Brewed in the Trough
I think another thing that should be considered is confidence. Some guys have that thing in them that screams confidence. In my experience, they are the ones that become natural leaders. -

Reevaluating the Catcher Trade Market

I really don't care if he hits RH or LH as long as he can hit lefties.- 23 replies

Who Calls the Twins Pitches ?
Karbo commented on tarheeltwinsfan's blog entry in tarheeltwinsfan's Blog
Generally, the catcher calls the pitches and the pitcher either throws it or shakes him off. The bench usually just calls for pitch outs or Intentanal walks. I've seen nothing to lead me to believe its any different for the Twins. -
Minnesota’s 3 Most Tradeable Prospects
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Developing players is the only way to have a winning team for a mid market team like the Twins. Any type of trade for 1 of these 3 should be for a young stud pitcher with 3-4 years of control IMO.- 21 replies

Winter Meetings Day 1: What Did We Learn?
Karbo replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Tw ins seem to finally be on the verge of having a pitching pipeline. No more signing aging 4-5 starters trying to get another year out of them. please! The type of pitching needed is reliable 2-3 inning guys that have "rubber' arms and are capable of going every couple of days or so.Its time to focus on the lineup, which has several holes that need to be filled. SS, C, RH hitting OF, they are the areas the Twins should be focused on IMHO. Signing Correa is very important to the team and fan base. Winning is the only way to get fans back, and that starts with Quality.- 41 replies

The Respectability Gap- Was 2022 a Stepping Stone?
Karbo commented on Hans Birkeland's blog entry in Hansblog
Some glaring holes is what I see, with no guarantee of filling them with the type of quality players this team needs to become serious contenders. The best move they could make IMHO would be to sign Correa, for once being on top in a FA bidding. (last year doesn't count due to the strike and shortened time to deal). After that they need a quality catcher which there aren't a lot of on the market. RH hitting OF'er that can mash lefties and play defense. And, the way this team has chosen to manage the pitching staff, at least 2 relievers capable of going 2-3 innings every couple of days. Although its still early in the off season, nothing has been done, and the only rumors heard are the Twins still in on Correa. An awful lot of holes to fill IMO. Then, a subject for another time, is this management team capable of coaching this team up unless there are studs across the lineup? -

Where Should the Minnesota Twins Payroll Be in 2023?
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't see payroll increasing much until attendance does. I don't see attendance increasing until wins do, and I don't see that happening with the current management team, from Falvey on down. I hope I'm wrong. I've been a die hard Twins fan since day 1. Management does make a huge difference. Where to fix this is problem? I'm not where where to start.- 27 replies

The Argument for Trading Jorge Polanco
Karbo replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm a firm no. For what we pay him he is probably the best value for a proven, high quality player. I don't see a bad infielder, but rather a slightly above average fielder, regardless what advanced stats say. He has hit since the day he came up. Last year he played hurt from mid may on. IMO no team would provide the talent back in a trade. Arraez did fine 1B and can't play the field every day. Julien was great with the bat at AA, but lets see what he does AAA. Gordon is better off used in the OF or utility, Farmer doesnt and hasn't hit righties enough to start there. Lewis is still a question and Lee have a lot to prove. And lets face the fact that trading him wouldn't be enough of a savings to sign a FA top starter(even if they could talk one into playing here). -
Will the Real Joe Ryan Please Stand Up
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO the jury is still out on Ryan. A young guy that is learning as he goes. I can agree at this point he's not an ace, and probably won't be until he can keep his pitch count down and get deeper into games ( if the staff lets him).- 14 replies

How Big is the Twins Catching Problem?
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
After the last few years of teaching and coaching him to stay low with the twins, and I don't know if he crouched in school or not, That could take some time. Also, this whole staff from FO on down seems a little slow (or stubborn) to adapt.- 64 replies

How Big is the Twins Catching Problem?
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO base stealing will go up quite a bit this season, which makes holding guys on and being able to throw them out is going to be much more important. This coaching staf, as of yet, hasn't showed the ability to "coach up" the pitching staff much if any, so it looks to me like they better get a catcher that won't be as overmatched as Jeffers has been so far in his career.- 64 replies

Andrew Heaney is the Best the Twins Can Do
Karbo replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMHO, the Twins would be better off sticking with what they have. Why go out and get an oft injured pitcher that up to this point in his career hasn't shown much more than #3 starter quality? Just taking innings away from the youngsters that may or may not prove to be just as good, if not better, for a fraction of the cost.- 34 replies
