  1. Didn't Pinto get hit in the head with a bat on a swing again since he has been in Rochester?
  2. Meyer's pitches that were getting drilled were right down the midde, at least that is how the gameday showed it. What would you rather have, a few walks or lots of hits? I don't understand why they pulled him after 4 innings and only 68 pitches. Is he hurt? He didn't walk anyone. Does that means he is Twins' ready now? I know. That isn't fair. Meyer is a really frustrating carrot to dangle for these last three years. Meanwhile, Span goes 4-5 today and even homers, and Buxton and Sano seemed destined for a long season in AA. As much as I enjoy reading these great minor league wraps....... maybe I need to stop for a spell.
  3. I think getting paid twice is not correct. A player can be signed for the minimum by the other team, and the team that releases the player gets that amount of salary relief. The total paid remains the same, just split between the teams, with the signing team getting the player for the minimum.
  4. Please tell me how Nolasco can be sent to triple A. That is thrown around so much, and it surprises me that it is offered in this article, and for vets, it is just not possible most of the time without DFAing and that whole process, which could lead to his outright release.... and salary paid by the team that releases him. So...... please tell me how Nolasco can just be sent to triple A. You can put him in the pen and be an innings eater to earn his way back and wait for the injuries. Or try to trade him to the Dodgers. If they will let Scott Baker in the rotation, they might just love Ricky again. And they have the money. Meyer was shelled today, and taken out of the game with only 68 pitches after 4 innings. He didn't walk anybody though, so maybe that makes him promotable? Great headline.
  5. Well.... nuclear is now nucular because a president said it.......... and then there is the new accepted definition of literally to also mean the opposite, figuratively. Nothing is safe is something can also mean its opposite. If enough people say it is so, even if it is wrong, it becomes the meaning these days. It looks like 10 is in the lead in the poll here on Twins Daily. Lookout. (Don't even get me started on the silent t in often......... so many said it wrong and pronounced the 't' that it became an accepted alternate pronunciation. just ax all those that say it that way. Jeff Daniels says it right (silent), and he is dumber 2.) http://www.salon.com/2013/08/22/according_to_the_dictionary_literally_now_also_means_figuratively_newscred/ sorry.......... back to the minor league report.
  6. Thanks..... I got to bolster the 10 camps lead in the poll. I find it weird that the search engine won't find the article with bat around, but it will with batting around. It seems that it should have come up with it for bat around, too.
  7. I give up. Nothing comes up in a search for "bat around" in other baseball, all forums or articles. Something tells me I won't be missing anything, anyway. I did find this, though, and I am solidly in the 10 batters camp. http://www.wsj.com/articles/mlb-heres-a-perplexing-question-to-bat-around-1429571356
  8. There it is. Journeyman. You can't just use the dictionary for every word's application. You could be an all star and still be a journeyman if you play for a different team every year. The "been around for a long time part" is the lessor part of the definition, I think. Will Myer is almost a journeyman already. Delmon Young is a journeyman.
  9. I agree. It is well documented and understood what ages these guys are. If you are going to be great, age means nothing. They have all been playing ball for years and years. That is what concerns me. Matt Harvey was out for a year, and that didn't get him rusty. The greats are rust resistant. All of baseball has anointed Buxton and Sano as "going to be great", and not just another top prospect. Buxton has been anointed 'Mike Trout great'. With Chattanooga as loaded as they are in addition to these two, the ball the Lookouts are playing still surprises and disappoints me. Even if I accept that patience is in order, and not overrated, I find it disappointing at this point.
  10. Ah.......... but I was always of the understanding that bat around = the batter that starts the inning gets to the plate again, or 10 plate appearances. But maybe there is an inside joke going on here and "but did they bat around?" is a rhetorical question?
  11. It continues to amaze me how disappointing the Lookouts are with all the "great" prospects. The good news...... Nolasco can dominate at the low A level.
  12. Yikes. Plouffe is classified and grouped with Schafer and Robinson. That has gotta sting a little.
  13. I doubt that Redmond is on the hot seat after this week. Silly rumors. Spreading silly rumors.
  14. It would be very ironic for Gardenhire to be Mike Trout's manager, considering that the trade for Gardenhire that brought him to the Twins basically led tp Trout's dad quitting baseball starting a family, as Ronny got his AAA slot. Without that happening, there would probably be no Mike Trout.
  15. Wow. This is really disheartening. The minors is where I come for reprieve. It is not the case much this month.
  16. Pelfrey has been a bonus so far. I think you give him starts and hope he continues, and unless this team starts to really be competitive, you can trade him for some value if you are lucky. Nolasco? I think I would like to see anybody BUT Boyer come out of the pen for a spell. Nolasco is going to be a problem. No mater what I am afraid.
  17. I say commit to Santana until the end of May. It is not like Escobar is hitting better.
  18. Other than Cedar Rapids, it is turning into a pretty disappointing month for the farm. 7-6, 6-6, 5-9, and 10-4 from the top down. And the top 2 prospects not doing well at all. Not that impressive for the so called 2nd best farm system in baseball.
  19. It is getting depressing checking in on Buxton and Sano and Burdi and Reed. It doesn't appear that relief is coming anytime soon for the Twins.
  20. Players really seem to regress if they don't play. Santana and Escobar both had great springs, and both had a pretty darn good 2014, too. Santana's was even better than Escobar's. If by a "lengthy minor-league record of mediocrity" it means hitting around .270, then I think that applies to both of them as well. They both have similar numbers so far in 2015. I think we give Santana a bit of slack here. It wasn't his fault that he could play a slightly below average center field and that no one else seemed to be able to do better, and hitting .320ish was hard to take out of the lineup. I don't know that he needs to hit lead off all the time, though. But let's face it. Most of the Twins' batters are hitting like Danny Santana is right now and around the Mendoza line. May as well give then all a chance to settle in. That or replace them all. I don't see how the Twins are focused on playing strong defense behind their pitchers. If that were the case, the outfield would be all different people, and the first baseman would be a bit more practiced as well.
  21. "Peterson quickly got ahead of Angelo Gumbs 0-2 on a pair of breaking balls and then balked in a run when he dropped the ball while he was standing on the rubber, before eventually striking out Gumbs to retire the side." There are a lot of ways to lose a ball game, but this is a new one on me!
  22. That was too early to play a baseball game for Meyer and Rochester. Oh...... the Lookouts' box score link goes the the Rochester box, too.
  23. Mauer discussed that seventh inning. “You get in that situation. It’s his runs and a shutout, you don’t want to turn it over to the bullpen. You want to give him a chance. I think he earned the right to give him a chance to keep the shutout. We got Theo up. I think he saw that, and he said, ‘You’re not taking me out.’ So that was pretty good.” I sure wish that managerial thought process was something I would see at the Major League level. Very Refreshing.
