  1. Interesting who Jim Leyland DIDN'T pick to be on his 2013 American League All-Star Team Staff. Actions speak louder than words? After all that verbal love he gives Gardenhire, I guess he knows when to let a guy go that can't get the job done. Bochy, Leyland Announce 2013 All-Star Staffs | MLB.com: News

  3. Thanks! Perhaps they are saving the great debuts for the Twins!
  4. He is fun to watch as a Twins fan......... not so fun if you are watching three of your team's batters getting hit, and a bunch of other almosts. I guess the Brewers refrained from the cowardly retaliation because they feel that he just can't help it.
  5. Being a teacher now....... you should know that some things are more important than school. Sometimes, the education is not institutional BS, it is the real word....... a higher education. Thanks for this story. You are to be commended for your stealth, cunning, and determination. In 1969, when I was in 9th grade in Lincoln, Nebrasksa, my history teacher brought a radio and the class got to listen to a World Series game of the Amazing Mets beating the vaunted Baltimore Orioles (he also played us Alice's Restaruant on another day). My boys, now 22 and 19, both love baseball, but sucked at playing it. I would take them out of school every 3 or 4 game stand the Twins had in Baltimore (when it wasn't the summer vacation) when I lived in Virginia for 24 years, and we would stay at the Renaissance where the Twins stayed, so they could see them after and before the games. It all started with taking them out of school and picking them up after a half day for a "Dr.'s appointment" to see Johan Santana defeat the Yankees in one of the Gardenhire managed teams rare playoff wins. Teach your children well. Learning is important, and learning how to learn....... school not so much, especially with parents that can give them memories that are way more important than make up work. Opening day has never been that important to me, really, but up close and personal, it is something my boys and I will have forever. We still go to as many baseball games and stadiums as we can, and meet places to to see the Twins play as the visiting team. When the season starts, it is all future and no past. Thanks for your off kilter blogging. It is a real joy.
  6. How did Brandon Crawford get that extra thousand dollars?
  7. This ain't soccer, folks. People have learned to use their arms and hands, there are no 0-0 games, and nobody has to flop around and act like they are hurt. Wave the flags and whatever, make your signs, wear your outfits, scream your lungs out....... but the horns are just annoying.

  9. Fun read............ one thing.......... you have Eric Byrnes hitting 273 IFFB in 3478 PA's on one chart, and then have him hitting only (only?) 245 IFFB'S for his career in the next chart....... so as they sing on SNL........ "What's up with that?"
  10. Looks like mostly a left center spay to me.... the gap. But over the fence - almost all over 400 feet. I wonder what the Hammer's offense looks like when he DH'd instead of played left field.
  11. Great blog post! "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds." Albert Einstein. Observation of behavior is never racism, and what you have said here is well delivered. You bring out great points. You have hit the nail on the head several times, from several angles. Many will "argue" with you, because that is what they are want to do. But what you said needs no defense. Things won't change until Gardenhire and Ryan are gone, I suspect, and the spirited players, regardless of their talent, will be shipped out for the very reasons that will make them valuable to less mediocre minds.
  12. I could be wrong, since no one else has mentioned it..... but I think that Deolis Guerra is out of options. If he doesn't make the Twins bullpen, I believe he has to pass through waivers for the Twins to keep him and for him to start in Rochester.
  13. Umpires are pretty bad, especially calling the low part of the zone and the outside part of the zone, but i don't see that from catcher framing. I see it as just humanly impossible to make accurate calls from that severe of an angle.
  14. nice............ i agree with everything except terry ryan. he is stuck in the era past and i cannot be thankful he is at the helm. his old school mentality is a thing of the past and will leave the twins in this mode until he is replaced.
  15. personally, i can't stand twinkies. even when they play like them... like the last two years. i love the baseball projects' song....... "please don't call them twinkies". a great baseball tune.
  16. just curious......... what is your call on "twinkies"?
