Dozier is now back in the .240s along with Hunter, and Mauer is in the .260s. The vet leaders that are here are not really coming through. It would help for the ones we have to perform, too. I know that many have a love for Dozier that looks past his strikeouts and inconsistency. But he still belongs in this discussion. As the season wears on, it is time for them to step up and lead, not fade, and especially not all at once.

Well...... in the case of trading for Tulo, it didn't take Berrios, Sano, or Buxton or two of the three. He was traded for much much less. Think choice of Arcia or Vargas, Kohl Stewart, Alex Meyer, choice of Escobar, Santana, Polanco, or Gordon.... and all you have done is given up redundancies that this team is not trading by the "best by" dates. Every team has untouchables. The Dodgers could still do trades without giving up players like Joc Pederson, and everyone wanted him. All of the players I mentioned still have tons of value, even though the Twins don't seem to know how to get it. Does Liriano have more value than Escobar? I think so, and the Twins with Ryan/Gardenhire/Anderson didn't know how to handle the talent. 2 down, 1 to go. Then things might change.

Article: Will The Twins Ever Hit Again?
h2oface replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
And Tulo was up for grabs, and went for a package that the Twins could have easily bested without giving up the farm. Ryan would have just had to make choices now about the redundancy before he lets the prospects "best by" dates expire. Instead, we will have to put up with Escobar and Nunez at short, and pretend they are acceptable....... and it could have been one of the best in the game instead, for several years to come. Great article, by the way...... and banging analogies.- 45 replies

Another horrible outing by Kohl Stewart. Unproven high school pitcher is still looking like he should have tried football instead. And picked at #4 overall. Tyler Jay is clocking in with a 7.56 ERA so far in High A. I guess we won't see him anytime soon, either.

I just have more fun with the MLB team, especially when maybes become Tulo's..... or Hamels'.... or even Kazmir's....... way more fun (except that is just a fantasy here). To trade away 5 to ten maybes and lose one that became somebody, for 3 to 4 somebodies? I like my plan better, and find it way more fun when the team is winning because it has good to great players that prospects brought.

That is exactly why he has value. Like Meyer's value got Denard Span. Washington knew he was a wild card. So did Ryan. Ryan made that bet, and has lost it for 3 years.... so far. To wait is to have an untradable prospect, or devalued prospect - a devalued asset - like Vargas and Arcia and Meyer and Pinto have become.

The trouble with Ryan, is that he never ever goes after a top player. Never. He goes after Pelfrey and Santana and Nolasco and Hughes (recently) and hopes they do better than they have been doing. And those are some of his better hires, when all the really horrible trades/signings (I know my examples weren't trades) are considered (the list is long). Twins' fans seem to have gotten so used to that, they talk themselves into liking the leftover players signed because they have no choice, because it is their team. It is hard for me to get excited about Ryan making a trade, because it is Ryan chosing the player.

Whatever Perkins is doing, it certainly doesn't show, especially in his core, and all motion starts there, or should start there for optimum performance. Sure, some pitchers have given up taking care of their bodies and still perform for a while, but I wonder how good they could have been if they really cared and dedicated themselves to being the best they could be? Perkins' own take on his fitness practice leaves me somewhat doubtful he is even telling himself the truth. Plus, the older one gets, the more attention it needs. Hopefully he will have enough in the tank to get more "spin on the ball for late life", as he puts it, for the rest of the season. And hey.... Chapman is on the market for the future... you know.. the future just around the corner where all the prospects that are never traded when they have value actually become MLB players.

I hear Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers singing on an endless loop..... and he is not talking about skydiving..... It is after the all-star break, and soft-bellied and out of shape Perkins may be spent even earlier than last year. He really could use a personal trainer to get and stay in shape to last a whole season.

Too bad Tonkin just can't seem to carry over his performance in AAA to the Show. It is really too bad. Every chance he has gotten, he has been blown back down. I would love for it to click, but the clock is ticking faster and faster for him.

Rosario goes 3 for 4, and is then is out of the line up for Shane Robinson! The great cooler. It happens all the time. Thanks Eddie.... now ride some pine. I don't know that the lefty righty thing is good in light of a hot batter. The Twins need every advantage they can get, and hot batters are one of them. -

I would love to have Tulo on this team, and get over the hope of Santana or Escobar and Polanco. I have been pushing for it all year, and taken the "experts disdain". Time to stop being cheap, and redundant with prospects, and grab a tried and true pro. TULO TULO TULO! Nice to see the wagon letting the band play now. -
Arcia's homer in the ninth was not a grand slam. It was a 3 run homer that was a walk-off, but not a grand slam.

I can't judge what Santana's performance is likely to be by his results in the rehab starts. Pawtucket has Rusney Castillo (solo homer) and Shane Victorino (double) at the top of the order, and Allen Craig later. Plus, these are rehab starts, and the most important thing is to stretch it out and gain arm strength, and to work on his pitchers - like a second spring training for him. Results (which haven't been too bad) in the rehab starts are not as important as getting the work in he needs to to be ready to help the Twins upon his activation. I don't expect him to be much more than another fairly good starter, though, because that is all he has ever been.

I don't know if it is the case, but if Santana is hitting balls close to the zone for hits, I hope that is acceptable. Of course it is important for him to get a better plan, but I hate seeing the talent to hit close pitches out of the zone for base hits instead of called strikes by bad umpires being extinguished.

How does a guy score from second on a grounder to third?

It surprises me that Danny Santana would be DH'ing instead of getting more reps at short. I just remember that playing baseball and being young....... resting was not really a necessary activity.

Article: MINNESOTA TWINS PROMOTE BYRON BUXTON!
h2oface replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great. As it should be. After the Hicks news..... I would have thought Ryan was brain dead if it didn't happen. Goes to show that it is a good thing not to pay attention to so called experts who state opinions as fact. Will Buxton lead off? Be featured in the lineup? Will this finally get Mauer out of the 3 hole, at least until and if Joe can hit like he deserves to be there again? -
What is the point of having Oliveros start? He was doing just fine as a reliever, and there are plenty of starters now.... and more coming?.

I remember a 3 inning tie game into extras where Graham pitched great... for 3 high leverage important innings, giving up only 1 hit, no walks, and 2 Ks, and we beat Pittsburgh on Mauers homer. I could look up others. His start of 4 innings and only 1 run given up was pretty darn good. Since getting shelled in one appearance with 2 homers on May 14, he has given up one earned run in 5 appearances, going 13.2 innings with 1 walk and 11ks and 14 hits. In his 16 appearances, he has only given up an earned runs in 4 of them, and for 3 of the 4 only one. I really don't see how he is mentioned in the same breath as Stauffer.
