    Interesting, thanks Lucas. Someone who has gotten lost in the glitter surrounding those half dozen big time prospects the Twins have accumulated as of last week. Sands, Vallimont and Strotman. I hope like you know what that one of them becomes a solid #3 pitcher for the Twins by say, 2023. Maybe another goes to the pen, but it would be FANTASTIC if one of the three makes it!

    I hear you, Mike. But expect he will begin with the Saints for awhile for the organization to get a first hand feel for what he has. But heck, he has been on a pretty big stage the last 17 days...would they bring him to Target Field straight from Tokyo? Good news is he will take the same flight from Tokyo, to either ballpark.

    Thanks for the report, Allen, on a big day with four W's. Perhaps the highlight of your report for me was the news on Lewis Thorpe returning to St. Paul to make his next start, Sunday. The next couple months are going to be huge for this young man. I would be surprised if his chances of lasting through the 40-man roster cutdown this November is any better than 50/50. Lots of young men are playing so well that they should be claiming several 40-man spots. Considering Thorpe's play, or lack thereof, last year and missing much of this season, he needs to be successful beginning with his start this weekend. If Winder is shut down for three weeks, rather than three more weeks, he could be back in the rotation next week. Really want to see both he and Ryan pitching two out of every five games for the Saints the last six weeks of the season. Has anyone else noticed that Severino is hitting well, really well, since moving up to the Kernel's? This is one fortunate young man, having signed two contracts with signing bonuses over $2M. Hopefully, Atlanta's cheating will pay off for the Twins.

    Sad to see Arraez leave another game with his banged up knee. If memory serves, most of his injuries have occurred while either sliding head first (which I understand he has eliminated) or to his knee in the outfield. Maybe next year concentrate on having him play second base, third base and DH. Keeping his bat in the lineup 150 games sure would help the offense. Interesting how the Twins are making a lot of waiver claims on young relievers. Together with Gant, who came in the Happ trade, they have picked up three in the past couple weeks with all appearing to have some potential. Good way to get a jump on the offseason and maybe find one or two for next year's pen. Great article in today's Strib about Polanco. He, Arraez, a healthy Buxton and Garver would go a long way towards making the 2022 Twins competitive. Getting Sano and Kepler's bat going along with Donaldson and the two rookies should make the Twins lineup dangerous and deep. Unfortunately, the pitching may take until 2023 to arrive, but we can hope...can't we?

    Had a tough time deciding whether to hit the 'like' button or 'sad' button as the Saints just may have the better overall pen. Was also really impressed with several of the relievers from Louisville.

    After two ugly starts, wanted to watch the Wind Surge last night to see Balazovic. Watched the first inning, in which he gave up four runs on several hard hit balls. After being unhittable for what, six games, don't understand what has been going on of late. Stayed with the game to see Martin hit in the bottom of the inning, then flipped to the Saints game. What a night in St. Paul. Hunter Greene was throwing every fastball between 101 and 103, meaning he was unhittable. Based on what I saw last night, gotta believe the Twins made the wrong decision that year they had the #1 overall pick. Fortunately, Strotman was also very good. Then Moran and Garcia provided no hit baseball for the last four innings, with five K's (4 by Moran). As I watched the late innings kept wondering, who has the better bullpen today? The Twins or Saints? With the Saints celebrating their 2019 championship team, looked like a full house in St. Paul with fans having a big night while seeing a special game.

    Great night for Jax, let him get a couple months of starts to set him up for 2022. What do you do with a player who is older, doesn't have much experience in MLB but flat out hits the ball. In Refsnyder's case....PLAY HIM!

    Will double down on Mike's comment above about Sabato. I wasn't a fan of the pick last summer and have thought that most ranking services, TD included, have him ranked way, way too high. With that said, it was good to see him get two home runs yesterday. It caused me to go look at his splits for the year, which I found support my disappointment in his season. Yes, he is off to a great start in August, but it is only a couple games. His average in July wasn't as bad as May, but it was again well under .200. His strikeouts remained close to 40% in both June and July after being 50% in May. And what was most surprising, in his first three months in low-A ball he hit only four home runs, 4. It was great seeing him have a big day yesterday, but the questions remain...at least for me. Talked about how well Rortvedt has been hitting in St. Paul yesterday. Well, today it is Celestino who had a HUGE night last night. Seems that being thrown into the MLB grinder before they were ready may eventually pay dividends for both as both are crushing AAA pitching, albeit in a smallish sample. And so excited about the big night and hit by Martin, including no errors. Hopefully, John will write something about his first hand observations of this young man. Speaking of last week's trades, did everyone see that Happ had a very solid start for the Cards yesterday, two runs over five innings? Also interesting seeing the Twins pick up another waiver claim, Garza. Together with the kid last week it appears part of their strategy for next year is to add several young relievers over the next couple months, Will give them the opportunity to work with them to see if any are likely fits for next year's bullpen. I guess it helps being near the worst record in baseball when looking at the daily waiver wire, eh?

    With Miranda and his two hits a game back in the lineup, the Saints win. But the story of the night was three hits from Ben Rortvedt, including a double and home run. I have always thought this young man would have a solid bat once he got to the big leagues. Still believe that and in hind sight, struggling through a couple months with the Twins without a single game at AAA may have been a blessing. Sure looks early on that it helped with the pitchers he is seeing with the Saints. When the Twins claimed Garcia, I took a look at his numbers and thought he could have a chance. One night doesn't make a career, but it sure was a nice start and he even got the W! What a first game for Martin, expect he had some butterflies on his first night with his new organization. See that Sisk didn't do as well in his second appearance. But getting both Sisk and Gant for Happ remains a head scratcher, at least for me. And Gant seems to be doing better than ok for the Twins. Not a lot of hitting for the Kernels. Even though Javier was 0-2, saw that he picked up two walks and scored a run. Will be surprised that he has done enough to get added to the 40-man, especially with the addition of Martin, but certainly has taken a step forward after his struggles the past few years. He will be a minor league free agent this winter, correct? Hopefully he wants to remain with the organization and give it another year to see if he can turn that last corner at AA next year.

    Interesting group and we all know how much help the Twins bullpen needs. Wondering how Gore has a 1.00 WHIP with 8 hits and 8 walks in 13.0 innings?

    He has played what, three months of AA ball after sitting out a year following college and some are downgrading his potential. And he is playing while dealing with an injured hand. Bah Humbug! I am amazed that the Twins were able to pry him away from Toronto. Why you ask? Looked at Toronto's draft last year. They paid this kid $7.0M to sign, which was $820,000 over the allotted slot of $6.18M. That was the second highest bonus paid last year, which ties to some who maintain he was one of the top two prospects in the draft. The result was that the Jays ended up around 5% over their allotted pool, ie, they paid a hefty tax. With everything Toronto paid to get this kid, I doubt their opinion slipped, especially considering he is playing with that injury. So why were the Twins able to get this kid and a top notch young pitcher? Easy, they traded one hell of a great young pitcher who will help the Jays battle for the playoffs this year and next. Berrios just may be an ACE, but most of us here have nitpicked his talent apart for the past whatever years. Why, probably in part because the bloody Twins haven't been able to satisfy our yearning for some playoff success. None of us knows what the future holds for this young man. But odds are pretty darn good that he is gonna be heck of a good one.

    Thanks for the weekly update, Seth. Couple questions. Is the pitcher they got from Toronto, Richardson something, going to Wichita along with Martin? If so, should be heck of a boost to the Wind Surge in their march towards a league championship. Good seeing Balazovic scheduled to start this week. Will be watching to see if he can get back on track after a couple less than stellar starts. Have you heard anything about why he was off in those two starts? I know Winder didn't get a start last week as he was scheduled for an off day/week. Do you expect he will be one of the TBA starts this week? Refsnyder just keeps hitting, whether it is with the Twins or Saints. Often guys in his situation are released at year end and need to hunt for a job for the next year. If he keeps this up, do you see the Twins keeping him on their roster for next year? Was thinking about reasons why the FCL team has such a terrible record. I know that most of the team are guys that moved up from the DSL after not playing at all last year. Do you know, are most of the teams they are playing filled with similar players? Or are they playing teams with older players with more experience? Thanks, Seth.

    Expect Balazovic was well on his way to the #1 spot until his last two outings. Have you heard if there is anything wrong? Minor injury? Dead arm? When I read about Varland every fifth day I just shake my head. Can he continue to dominate game-after-game? I think not, until he does it again. I guess we all can just sit back and enjoy the ride to wherever he takes us. Really like Gross. Was wondering if Rozek is another Dobnak? He doesn't drive Uber in the off season, does he?

    Does Rooker look like the same hitter we saw last August before breaking his arm? Sure does to me, and that was a very good hitter. Lets see if he can keep it up for two months, rather than the two weeks he had last year. Did see my first game of the year Saturday night (thank you FS1) and then a few innings over lunch at Champps on Sunday. Must say he looked more comfortable in left field than I expected. Ober, Jax and Barnes. Let them pitch every fifth day for the next two months and hope like heck that one of this trio will pitch so well that he can be inked into next year's rotation as their #4 starter. It can happen, please let it be so. Was all set to hit the like to D.C. Twins comment above until reading about Pineda. Would I have liked to see them move him for a Cruz like return, you betcha. But that probably wasn't in the cards. It also wouldn't surprise me if we hear that they sign him to a two year extension before the year ends.

    None of us have enough first hand knowledge to know the real story. But thanks for all the information, Matt. What concerns me is whether or not the Twins are trying to get all pitchers to focus on some of the same things, ie,, throw X pitch high in the zone, throw more sliders, etc. Every pitcher is different, would expect the best staff would be one that gets the most out of each pitcher based on his individual strengths.

    After reading what Miranda did, was asking myself how did he not get the award for a third straight month. But then I saw why. Didn't realize that Kerrigan was having that kind of month....wow! Thanks for the background about his not being drafted, play in the Frontier League, etc. Great story, now does he have a shot at getting added to the 40-man and a callup come September? Whether it is he or Contreras, would be great for the Twins to find an above average #4 outfielder who can both hit and play center field for next spring. Fantastic seeing those three kids from the FCL Twins in your group of Honorable Mention. Also appreciated seeing Helman's name. Remember when he was drafted, seems he tore the cover off the ball at every stop he made leading up to the draft. Wasn't his lowest batting average something like .325 at his various college stops?

    The biggest news today/yesterday was that the FCL Twins win, the FCL Twins win!!! Not a great first outing for Strotman. I understand that he had TJ surgery, was it last year or at the end of 2019? Did he get back on the field at the start of this season? Expect having been on the sideline for over a year could have an effect on what we see the rest of the year. In any case, he is not one of the top prospects joining the Twins last week. In my opinion, the three top prospects would be Martin and the two pitchers in Tokyo. If any of that trio don't make serious contributions to future Twins teams, I will be disappointed. Rosario had another excellent game in the FCL Twins win. Twins may have found a good one in last year's draft. Sabato is the only other 2020 pick playing, right? I know Soularie is injured, what about the young pitcher from West Texas?

    Agree with the question, in general. But this time it may have made sense. If memory serves, there were two outs and runners on the corners with Ober coming to bat. With Ober probably going only one more inning, it does make sense to pinch hit under National League rules. Really like how Ober pitched, although there were several hard hit balls in the last inning. Was the first game I watched all nine innings all year. Good seeing the offense score some runs. Sure nice having Arraez back on the field, isn't it? My only disappointment was Kepler. Granted, he had several at bats against lefties with sweeping sliders, but Max did not look good at the plate. One of my favorite players these past few years, just don't know what his future holds?

    When thinking about Gibson, we need to remember the circumstances when he wasn't resigned. If memory serves, he was coming off that terrible experience from when he was doing the charity work down in the Islands. Didn't he lose something like 25 pounds and had some illness that made it difficult for him to keep weight on and was physically tired all the time? Made it tough for the Twins to know if he would ever again be the pitcher he had been.

    Maybe more than you expected Matt. I have always assumed this kid was going to take his training and work his tail off to become a solid member of a future Twins rotation. I understand one good outing doesn't mean he has accomplished that. But it sure as heck is a step in the right direction. And for his not being in your top 30, well maybe your rankings were and are wrong.

    Saw that nice play by Miranda, but also saw he made two errors. Is he normally solid at second base? Or will his future be at either third or first? Wondering if Balazovic is battling thru some minor health problem? After nearly 30 innings without allowing a run he had an off day last Sunday. With another clunker last night, one has to wonder. Or is he having one of those dead arm periods after beginning his season late? Another fine outing by Gross. With all the additions to AA and AAA this week, expect there won't be any pitchers from Cedar Rapids moving up late this summer. And those poor FCL Twins can't seem to win a game. And most of the losses have the opponent scoring double digit runs.
