  1. Really down on the catching situation, as I expect is the Twins FO. Was surprised to read that Jeffers has thrown out as many runners as he has. Remember after getting no one for the first couple months of the season, his first was a guy who was safe before being tagged out after sliding past second base. And now I read that his passed balls a up. How does he possibly rate as an average defensive catcher? Didn't expect much from Sanchez as he was expected to be all about his bat. Don't know what the Twins do in 2023 or the future, but something has to change. Hopefully, that will start Sunday with the kid from Ga. Tech falling to them.
  2. How about this option? We all sit back and enjoy his pitching whenever he is on the mound? I for one have been a huge fan of his since I saw him pitch a lot on MiLB tv last summer. He convinced me he was the best starting pitching prospect in the upper levels of the organization. [Note: Joe Ryan wasn't in the organization at the time, although I may still have preferred Winder as #1] So I expect him to do well and will enjoy every inning I am able to watch.
  3. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Let's talk four years from now when Ben is the starting catcher for the Yankees and the Twins continue looking for a catcher that can throw anyone out at second base. As I began saying, I don't care what they hit if only some catcher could get the job done defensively.
  4. Very interesting. Now let's hope like heck the Twins extend him this summer/winter. Don't care where he is on the field, only that he is in the batter's box four or five times nearly every day.
  5. True. But you are judging his bat when called up to the Twins from AA ball the previous year, a year in which he should have been in AAA. When healthy, he has been an ok hitter in the minors. Unfortunately, Jeffers was supposed to be a much better hitter who has failed to do anything this year.
  6. Interesting comments, Jeremy, and others. Are we headed towards getting the best defensive catcher you can and not being concerned when he hits .180-.220? A catcher who will block balls with a cannon arm to control the opponent's running game. I guess I am describing Drew Butera, eh? Makes me sick that they had the guy who was actually going to hit a bit better and traded him to the darn Yankees. Hated that trade when it was made. As I watch games and see what we now have behind the plate and at bat, hate it more. By the way, is Drew Butera still playing? And Jeremy, I dread your suggestion that we may see Sanchez/Jeffers for the coming years....Boooooo! Do the rules allow the Twins to DH for the catcher and let the pitchers bat? [I don't know how to insert a smiley face here]
  7. Don't know much about any of these guys, but I ask...where are the catchers? The important catcher position is so weak throughout the organization. Is there any catcher that anyone can say is a legitimate prospect to become a front line starter? At shortstop you have Lewis, Miller, maybe Martin and/or Cavaco and a few others. But at catcher, no one. I don't know, maybe that is the case with most teams. But the catching with the big team isn't very good and it sure would be nice if they began to develop a pipeline to change that in the future. So I want the kid from Georgia Tech to be available at #8 and the Twins to make him a Twin. Add another guy from the International market and maybe five years from now the situation will be different.
  8. Was thinking about the bullpen over night. If you look at the rosters of both the Twins and Saints you will see six or seven guys that are either up with the Twins, or back with the Saints after being DFA’d. Back and forth they go. But wait, being DFA’d and back in St. Paul means no other team wanted them. Having three or four of these guys as part of an 8 man bullpen says it all. All winter I questioned, silently, those of you who were vocal about their lack of signing several bullpen arms. Well, you were right to do so as we watch a wonderful season turn into chaos.
  9. You didn’t mention my favorite, Doc, Ben Rortvedt. Ooops, they traded their future starter who could actually throw out some guys stealing a base. Way down the list, but Olivar has been hitting a ton in the FCL. And he can run! But like you I hope the kid from Georgia Tech is available at #8, they actually draft him and he rockets up the ladder to the Twins by 2024? I can dream, can’t I?
  10. Good to see Sano getting his swing back. Assume he will move up to the Mussels for a few games before heading north to St. Paul. Took notice of Olivar the other day and see he had another big game yesterday. See he played left field and runs well enough to leg out a triple. Gotta follow a catcher who can both hit and run.
  11. What do we know about Jose Rodriguez? Three doubles yesterday with 6 home runs in 82 at bats while hitting .305. And the kid just turned 17 last month. If my memory isn’t totally gone, I don’t recall guys hitting a lot of homers in the DSL? I know DeAndrade and Michel were big signings last year. Was Rodriguez also a big bonus kid?
  12. Do the minor league teams play seven games this week? Or do they not play next Sunday? Whenever I see a catcher hitting over .300, I take notice. What do we know about the Olivar kid in the DSL?
  13. Agree with most comments and consensus that he has little value and won’t be back next year. I would hope that we all can agree if the FO is able to trade him for anything, even after eating most of his salary and buy-out, that we all give them an A for the trade.
  14. After continually seeing Wallner's name in these write-ups, one has to wonder what his future holds. I know there is some question about his strikeout rate, but the kid looks like the real deal. But who is ahead of him on the Twins and where will he fit in? All indications are that when healthy, Larnach is the Twins left fielder for the foreseeable future. And Keps has right field for at least the next couple. Granted, Kepler continues to disappoint a bit with his average below .250 every year. But his defense is among the best of all right fielders and he runs well. So he is someone you want on this team, at least I do. Yes, Wallner's arrival could coincide with the end of Kep's contract. So is that his future? Or is he an ideal candidate to move in a meaningful trade? With Kirilloff penciled into first base, the question remains who else is coming up to fill one of those corner outfield spots? Lots of maybes, but no one who seems as likely as Wallner. Will be an interesting dilemma the Twins will have to answer sometime between now and the end of next year.
  15. After the 2020 season was cancelled and missing almost all of 2021 with an injury, great seeing Anthony Escobar pitching and pitching well. Recall how dominant he was in the DSL back in 2018. Exciting seeing him get his future back on track. Also exciting to see what Julien is doing this year. Steer, Julien and Martin. Gotta be one top future Twin from that trio, eh?
  16. Those of us watching the game last night saw how terrible the Twins catching situation is. Granted, this ain’t the NFL where a high #1 pick can step in and play. But when there is a top catching prospect likely to go around the time the Twins pick, let’s hope like hell the draft God’s align and the catcher is available at #8. Then let’s hold our breath and pray the braintrust takes the catcher and not another college power bat who doesn’t own a glove.
  17. First, I suspect the Twins will work hard to work out some type of extension that would keep him here for at least a few more years. What that looks like, who knows. The good news is the team is doing well and it sounds as if he likes it here, a lot. That should lead to a serious discussion, at a minimum. I don't have a clue what the TWins will do should he opt out. I know what I would do, but that is the same as my winning a mega millions lottery....it ain't gonna happen. I would put Palacios at short on opening day with the intent of Lewis replacing him early next summer when he is 100% back.
  18. Loved your comment, "would not break the bank." Considering the Pohlad's used to own, maybe still do, a lot of banks, use of this phrase gave me a bright smile. And we all get to few of those these days, thanks!
  19. And this points out a problem using this type of data. Winder is worth soo much more than 17.6, or the same as Martin. Expect that the problem is the same for all very good young prospects who weren't the 'stud' prospect signing or top draft pick.
  20. Great outing by Winder, so very happy for this young man who is part of this team's plans...now and future. Also happy seeing a very solid outing from Moran. Believe he can and should be part of this pen for the remainder of the season. Will he have some hick ups, certainly, but the good will outweigh the bad. Will second the above comment about the mistakes by Jeffers and Miranda that cost us an important run(s) early in the game. Miranda's was a mental error that he should learn from and get beyond with experience. Jeffers was just flat out disappointing as I watched him walking out of the box watching his long ball...then getting thrown out at second. Don't know the correct adjective, but this kid needs to get his butt in gear and play hard as his performance isn't guaranteeing him anything for the future.
  21. Love this kid and am excited watching him this year as he appears to be quicker, likely the result of reporting a few pounds lighter and in better condition. Also, appears the knee is fine. I really hope the Twins sit down with this young man and sign him to a Polanco/Kepler type extension this off season. Keep him at Target Field for the next 5-6-7 years. Don't care where he plays, just that his bat is in the lineup 150 games every year.
  22. No, no and no. Looking ahead to 2023, the Twins have seven solid starting pitchers...Gray, Maeda, Paddack, Ryan, Ober, Smeltzer and Winder. Yes, Paddack may not be ready until a month or two into the season, but they still have six solid starters. And that doesn't include any of the younger guys working their way up through the minors. And that doesn't include Archer, who loves it here and wouldn't be a surprise resigning by the Twins. Can that staff win a playoff series or two? Certainly, especially with the lineup that should be even better next year, with or without Correa. So, no, no and no as I also agree with dberthia that the bullpen is what needs work.
