  1. When I looked at last night's milb box scores last night (since there was no article on TD...) I saw Busey's and Hildy's lines and thought some vague thoughts that then, moments later, showed up fully formed, with pictures, on the TD website. Timely job, Seth. Love the quotes about waiting to get called up before steaming ahead on house plans. Makes me think about the fine financial margins some of these guys are on. Every day in the majors is huge. In this case, probably worth what, a square foot of house?
  2. This thread...wow. Archive it. I like the theory behind the pick. Pitchers of all ages are such a crapshoot. I am no scout, so can't comment specifically, but I like that they took the best position prospect.
  3. As long as something--anything--happens with a reliever whose last name starts with "B," I'm good.
  4. I had just checked the nightly minor league box scores before reading this. I thought to myself that Lewis has been solid lately, and if he keeps it up he'll be hotter of the month--for June. Hadn't realize he'd been that good for so long.
  5. I too was curious about that Sac Fly score by Whitefield. Game log was no help. The Cedar Rapids write up only said this: "Whitefield scored another run during a sacrifice fly...". During? Hmm. One guy threw 134 mph last night, another ran 134 mph.
  6. I agree with SirLoin about Haley. If I were to criticize the FO about anything, it would be Haley. It's not like he's a flamethrower who might harness things, a la Pressly. He seems a lot like what Hildenberger is to me, without the flexibility. I know all teams do it, but manipulating the Rule V process with these pitch/DL stints is poor sportsmanship. It makes me queasy to be a party to it, and in all honesty, I feel bad for the guy. I'd bend my morals if he was Johan Santana, though.
  7. I like this perspective. Should be fun to see how Molly uses them (or doesn't.)
  8. I know saves are overrated, blah blah. Man, what a chain reaction that blown one by Kintzler set off, though. Gassed bullpen, Vargas' big league dreams in jeopardy, Rucinzki's likely gone forever. Berrios will probably put too much pressure on himself tomorrow and get shelled, who knows how Hector will look. Nonetheless, I feel like this team has some fire in its gut. Last year, it would have been woe is me, and they would have curled in a ball and kept getting kicked. I feel like this group has some fight, however, and can find a way to regroup. We shall see. These are the growing pains of true champions, however.
  9. Funny line from the new Ferrell/Poehlet movie: "this says I've got $401,000 in the bank. "No, it says you have a 401K plan"
  10. fThis season is kind of like a Christmas where you travelled so you had early presents and late presents and whatnot. Fun to see Thorpe back and pitching well, Jay back and pitching, and Gonsalves ready to go tomorrow. Looking forward to some of the kids to get started, Javier in particular. Davis has a boomstick. Is he an ABWIV?
  11. I once had an argument with a math teacher over what I considered an odd number...8 is pretty weird. (Wright) The licorice was a big tub of Red Vines right? Although, in this analogy, something slightly not perfect has to happen near the end, to equate to the two homers Berrios gave up. So maybe the licorice was Twizzlers.
  12. Curtiss is like clockwork. Nice to see Romero with a strong start. Whitefield is a gamer. Seems like Goodrum has been hitting of late, but his avg. won't budge.
  13. Well played on the DeLeon mention. I'd say more, except for karma. Nice looking line for Wheeler. Maybe the Twins should consider Wells for fifth starter, seeing as he is getting major league experience.
  14. I actually agree. I was just trying to make an argument that throwing him repeatedly in the fire last year didn't work, and the Twins wisely corrected course and held him back a little this spring. Good for them. I'm happy. If the Twins miss the playoffs by that Tepesch debacle, I'll still be happy.
  15. Berrios, like many others before him, looked like he was going into the failed development column last year. whatever they did, good job.
  16. What does Davis have to do to get hitter of the day? Hit THREE homeruns? In a season where Gonsalves has been hurt, Stewart flopped, Jay went to the pen, and Romero hasn't dominated, I am probably over-excited to see Thorpe back.
  17. Nice piece, Tom. I kind of like the your idea to go with three catchers, with the idea that it is an apprenticeship. If Garver is going to be a part of the next winning Twins org, he needs to be up and participating. Yeah, it would suck to have three, but the way you describe it kind of works for me, especially if Garver could DH a bit. Didn't the Cubs roster 3 last year? Anyway, this project wouldn't start quite yet anyway.
  18. No more Kyles, please. Go Greene. Like the much chased but never cornered definition of an "ace," generational talent can mean whatever you want it to, and won't be quantified with a number. A generation from now, will people remember and talk about someone? That is partly market and win related, but I like the upside of this kid. After reading the MLBTR article on Arizona's draft of 2009, which included a few thoughts about Trout that highlighted his character and athleticism, I'm loathe to miss out on a similar opportunity.
  19. Rucinski is cannon fodder. If things go south, they could ask him to pitch multiple innings while absorbing a shellacking.
  20. Not to restate the obvious. O.K. I'll do it anyway. Three homeruns for Davis, two of the go ahead variety. What exactly do they have in Turley? A rare find, or just an old guy dominating the kids? I saw the box scores last night, and was worried Meija got hurt. Didn't think about keeping him fresh for Saturday.
  21. Gibson's strikeouts jump out. So do his walks. Rosario intrigues me. What's up with Del Rosario? Jermaine...hope they don't trade him for Kevin Jensen or something.
  22. Fergus Falls is serious? Cool factoid. I'm going to have to look that up. I've got an almanac right here in my shirt pocket.
  23. Psychologically, he's not riding in alone on his horse to lead the Twins out of a disastrous season, like last year. Instead, he's a new cast member of the "Mediocre Seven," and his job is to replace a guy who was sitting in a rocking chair and got shot in the chest with an arrow and when he did he tipped over backward and his shotgun went off and shot a hole in the roof. On the roof was a different guy, and that guy fell through the hole in the roof and landed on a fork. Luckily, Erv and Hector are doing a decent job of carrying the film so far, so Berrios can focus on being funny, or his K/BB, or whatever. Ah, geez. I just remembered we're playing the Indians.
  24. Never thought about how big the gap is between #3 and #2/1. Telling. A sign of rebuilding?
