  1. Great to see that start from Thorpe. Maybe they should stick to that schedule... Good for Gordon. Seem like its been a while between extra base hits. Slumps happen; learning to break out of them doesn't always happen. Jermaine Palacios could stand to heat back up.
  2. That top picture of the Sox batter reminds Han Joelo of Stephen Baldwin's character from The Usual Suspects. https://goo.gl/images/ooDQMm McManus would like the key to hitting that filthy pitch.
  3. I don't now about all that fancy thinking, but I did learn a valuable statistic in another thread today: The Gimenez Factor. The less he pitches, the better the Twins run differential. Ironically, it has little or no correlation to his actual ERA, just the fact he's pitching at all.
  4. Just read about Joe Nathan. He wasn't much younger than Gibson when he finally put it together. These things happen. If Andrew Albers is still making starts, I'm sure Gibson would have little trouble finding a home. But yeah, the next step is to have a good game against one of the better offenses.
  5. Excellent article, Seth. In those days the newspaper (or maybe it was the Sporting News) would have the statistics for every one on the 40 man. I certainly remember Brito's numbers jumping out at me, and I think I remember Russo's name as well. I could be manufacturing that memory, however. Crazy he never even got a cup of coffee, but it sounds like he is doing well. Here's hoping Rooker gets that cup of coffee, and more. And if he doesn't, that he goes on to have a fulfilling life doing something else he loves.
  6. Thanks for the reply. I know there are some underlying things like the plate recognition that you mention, but what else makes Baddoo different from Angel Morales? I've been burned before...
  7. Nice to see Gonsalves rebound after the last start. Always fun to see guys struggle a bit and the figure stuff out. I'm pretty sure I read that Badoo had the 'tools' when he was drafted, but there was uncertainty as to whether he'd figure out how to use them. I'd be curious if Fangraphs or better yet, TD had an in depth comparative analysis of him vs. similar age/drafted players. Seems like he should shoot up some rankings, anyway. But maybe I'm not seeing the bigger picture? At any rate, that Baddoo-Javier-Miranda triumvirate is lethal. Yay for Jay!
  8. I don't want get all hyperbolic here, but this is the end of the world. Game over man! We just got our asses kicked. If the Twins can't beat the worst team in a five game series, how will they beat the best? Okay, enough with the hyperbolic facetiousness. Great to see Buxton with another hit. Watching on game day, my feeble baseball mind was vexed as to why Berrios was messing with pickoffs when all he needed was a strikeout. Nice bullpen work. Remember, when you need to stop a bad run, try throwing your Colon.
  9. Right up to the Kintzler trade, or thereabouts, Rogers was nigh unstoppable. Its a whole new world now without those two stoppers. New cream rising to the top. I happened to check in on the Nats/Astros a couple of nights ago on Gameday. Kintzler had loaded them, with one out. Never checked back to see how it went. One Wild Card team has 3 closers and a relief budget of $50 million per season (I made that up.). The other has Matt Belisle closing. Ahh, baseball.
  10. Answer: A shark, riding an elephant, trampling and eating everything. That's who I'd trust. At least with Rogers and Holdmyburger I can say stuff happens, though. They saved me the angst of watching Belisle with a one run lead.
  11. That is a mic dropper. I'll be at work today, concocting witty retorts to people who asked me if I saw the eclipse, and what percent of total it was and so forth. This is a good start.
  12. Read the game recap of the Kernsls game. Lewis seems like he knows what he's talking about when it comes to baseball. Greene fwiw, is at rookie level Billings. No pitching stats that I could find. Good sss hitting stats from 5 games at DH. I'll believe it when I see it, but Lewis does seem like one of those guys who can debut at age 20.
  13. In other former Twins catcher news, Wilson Ramos is "dragging the Tampa Bay offense down," in the words of Jonah Keri. Meanwhile, Kurt Suzuki is a top 25 August trade target, per MLBTR. But back on topic...it's good to see Kohl making a comeback in this country, as promised.
  14. Kind of like the Twins young guns all having a great day, the E-town young uns did too. Badoo, Javier, and Miranda are and exciting trio. I'm somewhat impartial in the debate about when to promote prospects, but right now, challenging guys seems to be working. Not a superb start for Stewie, but encouraging. Where did Moya come from, and for who?
  15. That was the definition of firing on all cylinders. Could've been more; Rosario had a nice game too. Sano getting thrown out at home while he was still closer to third base is a head scratcher. Although I think I approve of him conceding the out and not getting anyone hurt by doing something fancy. I like that Hildenberger kid. I think he's already carved his niche.
  16. I would like to see Slegers start again on this turn in the rotation. DH? Who's on the waiver wire? Mike Napoli? How about Stanton? Parkas (PAlka + paRK + vargAS) doesn't inspire...Garver, I guess. I've no comments on Perkins. Good luck to him, and to Molitor, on how this will go down. Kepler, Polanco, and Co. need to turn on the sprinklers tonight before they leave, then maybe hit a strip club, get an obnoxious tatoo, sleep in, and then go to the zoo and feed raw meat to the polar bears or something. They should do it all in a montage. Let their facial hair grow out, put in new, random surprise walk-up music in for each other. That sort of thing. Or, get lots of sleep, get up early and watch TIVOed Bachelor episodes, and drink a kale smoothy. Whatever it takes. It's August.
  17. Nice article. It's nice there are some positive things going on. You should write a bizarro article where all these guys are sucking or hurt. That might help to illustrate the positives of this FO's blueprint.
  18. Was just reading about how Chapman is "struggling" for the Yankees. I think you keep mining for Kintzlers, maybe step up a notch and look at this year's version of Greg Holland, but stay away from big contracts for aging relievers. If you want the best relievers, seems like you have to develop them--or pay the price in prospects to get them in their primes.
  19. The radio crew was musing about acquiring Upton yesterday on the broadcast. Aside from adding a couple more wins against Detroit just by subtracting him from their team, I kind of like the idea. Chances are he opts out, so the Tigers could lose him for not much anyway after this year. Seems like [pulls name out of a...er hat] Jermaine Palacios? could get it done. No way he gets to the Twins, though.
  20. I found Wander. He was DHing last night. Must of gotten dinged. Learning to win and kicking butt is good, but I like to see some struggles too. Curtiss for instance. The win would have been better, but the experience of blowing the save, but also getting out of the inning with the bases loaded and coming back for another; that's good stuff. And Graterol, as much as I want him to be an ultra-dominating monster, it is maybe good to struggle a bit, listen to coaches advice, and then become better in the end. Thats just life. And Lewis making lemonade out of an 0fer, also good to see.
