  1. Yeah, I was certainly a part of that near-panic. I had lost confidence that the FO knew how to keep the best talent, and many of us still had Ortiz PTSD from the previous regime. Could be I was wrong, and that Larnach + Celestino are better for this team than Wade + Baddoo. That said, I was very happy for Baddoo and I hope he can find his groove again. I think he's a competitor, and while the Rule 5 helped him get a jump on his MLB career, he probably did need some time at AAA. Here's hoping he comes back and plays well against everybody but us.
  2. Very happy for Rogers. Right when I came to see the value in having Paddack, he goes down, darn it. Oh well, here's hoping it's a precautionary move and both teams get good value from this swap.
  3. Completely agree. I'm sure he'll have some rookie bumps, but his ability to step into the SS role for a first-place team (filling the shoes of a possible HOFer, no less) right after returning to pro ball is a testament to his talent and character. Lewis is the definition of a winner.
  4. I'm maybe more impressed with this W than any of the others so far. Buxton, Correa, Arraez out, Paddack injured early, A's take an early lead and they just fought back and then held the line. I'm not convinced we're going to end up ahead of Chicago when all is said and done, but I love the fight in this young team. They are forcing wins to happen. They are building a culture of winning. That has been my dream for this club for awhile.
  5. 2 games. 3 runs. Two wins. Baseball is a fickle game, friends. Glad it's leaning our way more often lately. Go Twins. Oh, and I've had some truly bad Twins takes over the years, but my "why would anyone think Griffin Jax would make a good reliever" is shaping up to be one of the worst. Good for Captain Jax, I salute him.
  6. I heard that too. Darn jinxers. Well, they're probably not a .625 team and they're probably not a .333 team. These past two days are a bit like the Oakland COVID lump games from 2021. Ugly and draining, but there's a lotta baseball left. Try to play .500 baseball this month and keep on chugging ahead. Here's hoping Correa is okay within a few weeks.
  7. Twins baseball is fun again. Like, so much fun. I feel like I did as a kid in 1991 listening to these games. Let's keep it going.
  8. I get what you're saying, but I think these folks are trying to show that even an out is sometimes indicative that a guy is getting (or is still) locked in, and that good things are happening with his swing. That gives me hope that the next one goes over the OF's head. Like you, I'd rather have any kind of hit than a loud out, but I like knowing that a player's bat is hot.
  9. Had to do other things after the 6th. Impressed that the Twins held the lead and closed the door. They win big and they win small. That what it takes to lead a division.
  10. I don't think I've ever seen a rookie respond to his weaknesses so quickly. His fastball was a potential liability, so he added pitches and keeps hitters off balance. The entire rotation at this point gives you confidence going into each game. When's the last time we could say that?
  11. Sure, but I tend to think agents like Boras are chosen by players because they are known for getting the most $$$ possible.
  12. I have been waiting for Kepler to reclaim his swing. Buxton and Correa can do more at the plate when they are backed by the threat of Kepler and Sano, too.
  13. I've had some criticisms of Baldelli over his time here as manager, but his protection of their health isn't one of them. I'm actually very impressed by the way he manages off-days and eases players back from injury. I think the loyalty we see from players like Buxton is the result of this.
  14. If Kepler can hit, if Sano finds his swing, if Jax is a late-inning answer and if the team's luck has turned around - look out. Those were kind of the missing pieces to a very good season.
  15. I love Correa as a Twin. I love his attitude and the level of commitment he brings to winning. I hope this is a magical year. But I can't even imagine a long-term deal for him here. We're not that kind of franchise, and this FO doesn't like those kinds of contracts. Boras is never going to let him take a discount to stay here, even if somehow $25M per year for 8 years would be enough. But the good vibes are nice. I'm glad he's having a good experience here. That's exactly what I wanted.
  16. Exactly. I like the Tigers, too. They've got some grit. I'm hoping they beat up the AL Central pretty well this year, with one notable exception.
  17. That is fun. And here I thought it would take a few weeks or more to right the ship. A good lesson for me to chill out and keep the faith. Buxton is special. This series might be the boost this team needed to take itself seriously as a force in the AL Central. Love it.
  18. Seth, didn't you just ask for an easy 7-2 victory? They saw that, and raised you two. In short, make more requests like this. See what happens. And I agree about momentum. Yesterday's unlikely win felt like an antidote to snake bite venom. Keep going for the sweep tomorrow.
  19. Good stuff, Dave. I should add that I work with young adults in my career (community college instructor, but don't hold that against me), and I really like them. I think they're every bit as sharp as I was at their age, and mostly more so. I also know that I have a lot more patience than most. A lot. I can handle seemingly slow movies and seemingly slow ballgames. My mind works kinda slowly, so too much extra stuff going on usually puts me in a trance. So I like the pace of baseball, but I understand that it's getting harder for others to enjoy. Maybe there's a place to meet in the middle. Speed up the game a bit, sure, but cherish the very small - sometimes slow - aspects of the game that reflect the balance between what happens in the mind and how it impacts the bat, the ball, and the glove. Baseball still has a lot to offer about how good deliberate decisions can quickly lead to good outcomes. Thank you for attending my lecture.
  20. "None of them could even sustain their attention on the ninth inning of a tightly contested one-run game. Even as a total diehard who revels in every intricacy of the game, I could feel their pain." Oh. Come. On. "Feel their pain"? Really? A one-run nailbiter on a sloppy April night between two teams that may be smacking each other around all season is considered "painful" now? I think this says more about the audience than it does about the game. I like you Nick and all of your TD contributions. But if you and your friends are indicative of how others feel and we really have moved into constant-entertainment-needed-or-I-feel-pain mode, this beautiful game isn't long for this world.
  21. This has the feel of a big win. Maybe not, but listening to the last inning, it felt like the antidote to last year's Oakland game. You know the one. Build on it, fellas.
  22. Funny. I used to tell my daughter that, for two glorious years, the Twins were the most clutch postseason team ever known to baseball. She would look at me like I was nuts, and because the attic mice ate the Wheaties boxes and I no longer had a VCR to run the Twins Win! tape, I had no viable proof to offer. And so, a triumphant MN postseason is just a fairy tale now.
  23. I think this is probably true. The problem is this: the lost opportunities are already banked by that point. If this is a .500-ish almost-WC team under better conditions, they've already dug themselves a hole to climb out of. To be an 85-win club they need to start playing at a 90-win pace, with less additional room for error from here on out. That's why a strong start really matters for a team on the cusp. I think that's why some of us are so frustrated already.
  24. We were facing a 50 year old Zack Greinke today and scored one run. With Buxton. Okay, maybe he's not 50. But we aren't setting the league on fire in offense, even with Buxton.
