  1. The Twins have shown in the past week they can beat the Orioles in close games -even win in extra innings, which is something of sorts. (16 in a row overall vs Baltimore.) However, with 109 games or so to play the Twins are 9 games below .500 and in a fairly deep hole division-wise. The Twins only face the Orioles for two more games. All this math is against the Twins right now...
  2. Sadly, I have to agree with all the Sano angst. He is really struggling to make even occasional, meaningful contact. Why in the world does he continue to be placed in the middle of the order?
  3. Please, Berrios has pitched at roughly the same level now. as he did for the Twins' 2019, 2020 Division Championship teams - hardly ****tty squads. Berrios is a good major league starter, and they command a decent price when traded.
  4. Twins winning two in a row spoils the narrative a wee bit, that the 2021 Twins are an awful team and 2019, 2020 were fluky outlier seasons.
  5. I agree if the Twins become sellers then they have to consider as potential assets to move: Berrios, Kepler, Polanco and I would add Sano and Garver. Wouldn't trade Buxton, Arraez and the young LH hitters.
  6. The disappointment and frustration are understandable, after all the primary sources in life of unhappiness are unmet expectations. Yes, the Twins have disappointed and performed poorly especially in central moments. However, disparaging their performance and character are separate issues. Almost no one (or maybe no one) on this site can speak coherently about the intentions of the players or for goodness sake make definitive judgements as to how much individual players' "care" about winning due to an assessment of their level of "energy".
  7. I haven't looked it up so I could well be off base, but I imagine almost all teams that finish at or above .500 endure 20 game stretches with 11-12-13 losses. The fact that the Twins hit such a stretch in the first 20 magnifies things a bit and understandably increase the toxicity among fans/critics alike. The Twins have rarely had their preferred roster available, a handful of players are off to slow starts with the bats (Sano, Garver, Polanco, Cave, Jeffers) and the BP has failed to protect some leads. Adding all that up, while concerning doesn't mean the team will struggle all season...
  8. Yesterday was a disaster on many fronts as a team with title aspirations such as the Twins can't be gifting wins to opponents. Every coaching decision can have multiple outcomes and there is a chance factor to the results. However, the thinking behind the moves has to be sound and in these instances I too question Rocco's reasoning especially allowing Colome to throw so many pitches and removing JD for a pinch runner who is inexperienced and frankly not much faster than JD.
  9. Yes, this streak of poor play is grim. Yes, a team can dig a deep enough hole in the opening months of a season so as to be a major problem. But the Twins are 5-7 not 5-17. A little bit of patience here Twins faithful...
  10. Most everything can be politicized. You note that "millions disagree" well you could find millions who think Elvis is still alive. Standing up for what you think is right is what the Twins are doing. That doesn't require an assessment of who is on what side.
  11. The consensus that the bullpen doesn't appear to be championship quality is reasonable to this point (8 games into a 162 game season.) A silver lining is typically there are a number of quality. bullpen arms available via trade before and at the trade deadline. Twins have enough trade assets to make the moves if this very early bullpen trend becomes a thing.
  12. Agree with all the pay Buxton posts. If the Twins want to compete at highest level of MLB you find a way to keep your core players even if it involves risks. (Unless you are the Rays and you twist and turn and it works out.)
  13. Lack of soul? Do you have access to information about the interactions between Baldelli, his staff and the players that isn't reported to the public? A lot of managing is unseen by fans and/or critics. If not this take on the manager is unfair and to turn a phrase rather soul-less.
  14. Kirilloff's minor league numbers are better overall than Garlick's, he is a Top 25 prospect in all of MLB and is six years younger. Rooker's numbers overall are on par or better in some respects to Garlick's as well.
  15. The decision to keep Garlick over both Kirilloff and Rooker is puzzling at best. Can a handful of spring at bats matter more than established minor league track records? It would appear to be the case, unless the FO has another unknown reason. Broxton also had a decent spring, and he has had some success at the ML level far exceeding Garlick, and Broxton can play CF. Again, puzzling...
  16. There is little historical correlation between Spring Training performance and regular season performance. There is however, a strong correlation between Spring Training performance and fan over reaction.
  17. Good point. Might Pineda be an add as he missed so much of last season? I think the Twins are also counting on a healthy Donaldson - fingers crossed.
  18. Good addition. Reasons: 1. Shoemaker's short term upside likely > than Dobnak, Smeltzer and Thorpe. 2. Injury history doesn't always predict an injury future. 3. Adds needed depth to the SP core - especially if Duran and Bala can contribute in 2021. 4. If Shoemaker performs at average in the upper half of his past performances - he is a pretty strong #5.
  19. The metric that matters most is wins and the Twins got a lot of. those in 2019 and 2020.
  20. Great to have Nelson for another season. Agree - pitching move(s) needs to be made. The FO will find a way and resources to add either a SP or bullpen arm or two before Opening Day.
