    The metric that matters most is wins and the Twins got a lot of. those in 2019 and 2020.

    Great to have Nelson for another season. Agree - pitching move(s) needs to be made. The FO will find a way and resources to add either a SP or bullpen arm or two before Opening Day.

    Seems like we are seeing the FO plan emerge as they pursued Semien and Simmons -ended up with Simmons, signed a LH veteran SP in Happ, added Robles to BP and basically replaced Rosario with Kirilloff. The Simmons move greatly improves the defense and provides better positional options. Great move in theory. If two moves are left to do, which seems to be the consensus is there a Plan B if they can't secure Cruz? And what is the 2nd move to be? (A pitcher?)

    The discussion on this thread around what to do with Arraez and Polanco is a good one. First, whatever plan the Twins settle on- it won't be static, they can always adjust the roles as they proceed. Importantly, they now have better options, and that in turn makes the team better (theoretically). As for Arraez - the dude can flat out rake. Rocco needs to find him 450+ plate appearances if he continues to hit be it 2B, 3B or LF or wherever. In 2019 he was serviceable on defense.

    This is a positive development and makes the Twins better. Positional flexibility is a major asset and the Twins have considerable flexibility with Simmons at SS.

    Arraez produces at the plate, is not shy in big moments, competes hard, seems like a team focused guy - what's not to like? He should be seen as part of the core.

    Solid enough signing - a LH starter with a solid MLB resume. I am good with it. However, if this is the Twins' only SP move then the FO must really have confidence that one or more of Dobnak, Smeltzer, Duran or other youngster can produce. Not sure a team with world series aspirations would trust largely unproven SP to be central to the plan.

    Your assessment of the Twins' short stops is sound. Adding a player from outside the organization either via trade or free agency is about making the team better. That doesn't always mean simply shoring up weaker areas - the Twins could improve their team by bringing in a SS like Simmons and finding a different regular role for Polanco.

    Good article and concept. I am not convinced that either is as high a priority as a SP, A quality arm for the BP and/or a SS which would free up Polanco/Arraez to fill the role either of these two could fill.

    Agree with your basic premise about Top Prospects. I think Lewis could be in the line up 4-5x a week if as the super utility player (SS-3B-CF-OF). If he has successful Spring I think this could be an option for the Twins to consider.

    Re-building depth in the pen is a good thing. If Robles' 2020 season was an outlier, and he performs to his own career mean this will be a decent addition.

    However this shakes out it is encouraging that the FO is thinking big. Semien would be a solid addition as would Simmons or Hernandez. Any of these three noted above would provide more quality, depth and flexibility to make other moves.

    Arraez can be super utility. He played multiple positions in 2019.

    He was MVP of Arizona Fall League. Some noise around how good he was this summer. His tool set is unmistakable, but you do make a good point - his production to date doesn't = his tools.

    Royce Lewis may well be ready for this role this season. If so, resources can be used for other positions - SP, RP, DH, SS....

    Hand is the type of addition that can help the Twins level up.

    Trading Arraez is a mistake even if his trade value is high. He should be considered part of the core and contenders don't trade core players unless the return is great. (One year until free agency doesn't do it.)

    Arraez hits, gets on base and competes hard. Those are A+ assets that demand you find a way to keep him in the line up consistently.

    Polanco could fill the super utility role (2B-SS-3B-LF?) and there would be solid rotation of those three.

    You could be right, but many consider SS an even more premium position and his offense plays even better at SS.

    Solid effort with this blueprint. The idea of making Polanco the super utility and sign a free agent SS or trade for one makes a lot of sense too.

    Eddie has been an asset to the Twins and a key figure for better or worse in terms of team culture. But his asset value diminishes as his salary increases unless the Twins can project some improvement in his numbers. The Twins will likely (hopefully) get greater value out of the pool of in-house replacements because they can approximate Eddie's numbers in the short term at a much lower salary. Mid-long term the Twins are counting on at least one of the youngsters to surpass Eddie's level of production. Having said that, I have enjoyed rooting for him and hope his career continues on a good path.

    Nice article on a central issue for the Twins off-season / progress. It seems Sano or Kepler are the most valuable trade pieces with the most obvious replacements in-house. Their contract status enhances their value - couple the return of assets they could bring with the likely production levels of Kirilloff, Larnach and/or Rooker in their place and a viable trade strategy emerges that enhances the roster.
