  1. This is a good development. Miranda if he hits will stick, putting more pressure on Sano to get it going like he can. Something has to give in a positive way inasmuch as there eventually will be four players in the mix for at-bats at 1B and DH: Miranda, Arraez, Kirilloff and Sano. (Assuming limited AB at DH for the catchers.) This assumes Larnach holds onto LF and Kepler has in reality figured it out again. Martin and Lewis will soon come knocking on the door too. This log jam of bats may create some tradable assets at the break if needed?
  2. It's clear from his past performances that Sano is a really streaky hitter. However, this prolonged spell of poor production to start the season may need a sharp reset. He shouldn't just be placed in the lineup day after day waiting for him to produce. Maybe something is wrong physically?
  3. Agree small sample size. In comparing value yes, Rogers is doing great for SD so far. However, they have one season of control, while the Twins have three with Paddack. The Twins also got Pagan and the pitching prospect for Rooker. It looks like a solid trade for both sides.
  4. To date, Winder has been too effective to send down. He is developing when he is getting major league hitters out too.
  5. His value is partly tied to his past track record of power and the ability to hit home runs. So far he has one.
  6. Yes to me it's a no-brainer, if Correa wants to stay the FO should try to make that work.
  7. Hard to quantify what best means. But he is uber talented. and an absolute joy to watch.
  8. Yes, hitters should work on many things that could counter the shift. But for the most part they aren't, and they get paid to hit bombs / producing runs. Make the game better by eliminating or reducing how and when shifts can be deployed. That will bring more action to the typical fan and maybe draw the interest of more kids and people younger than 50. (Full disclosure I am over 50.)
  9. Great performance and Buxton is a catalyst for this team. Not sure it matters, and I generally prefer to steer clear of being overly critical of the manager, but why use both left-handed relievers in basically mop up roles?
  10. Over a 162 game schedule all sorts of funky things occur - good and not so good; Yes, on Correa's single in the hole the White Sox threw it all over the place allowing for a second run to score. Reminder: with two outs Jeffers hit a double and Arraez worked a walk. It wasn't all just good fortune.
  11. Twins have to hope for some progression to the mean because a number of players are under performing their career averages.
  12. Yes, agreed Arraez needs to be in the line up almost every day. Stop using Jeffers as a DH and give more AB's to Arraez. Arraez can get in the line up at 1B, 2B and LF on occasion. Not sure Gordon should be a regular, being a super utility guy seems to. fit him. When Kirilloff returns I think he should get a lot reps at 1B.
  13. It is April 21st. There are many months in the season so some perspective is needed through all the gloom and foreboding on this thread. Here are the players I am nearly 100% certain will hit to a high standard that are struggling now: Correa, Polanco, Buxton, Kirilloff, Urshela Here are the players who are concerning: Sano, Kepler Here are players doing ok with the bat: Arraez, Sanchez Here are players I just don't know what will happen: Jeffers, Larnach The Twins will hit enough eventually. Final point the starting pitching has been very good, yet many indicate that it won't last. Bleak take: Twins can't hit, the strong early pitching is a mirage and Baldelli has no idea what he is doing = another dreary losing season. Win Twins.
  14. Not adding more (enough) veteran arms to the BP in the off season despite its inherent risks was a FO mistake from the early season results. The Twins lack dependable pieces they need. Not sure what the FO plan was, but right now things aren't on track to put it mildly.
  15. The premise of this survey/article was IF the Twins were in contention, which prospects are likely to be moved to enhance the club. Most posts deny this premise and turn it on its head. If we accept the premise the additions will likely come in the way of RP. (Based on the six games played to date.) I would want the FO to make a move or two if the Twins find themselves in a reasonably competitive position, but surrendering Top 10 prospects at this stage doesn't make sense because these are the players the FO is banking on to get the Twins over the hump. Having said all that I would say None of the Above - it will be lesser prospects for some RP help.
  16. Yes, Duran can be an asset in the BP, but he should eventually be given an opportunity to be a SP. This may not be a true parallel, but who would the Yankees consider more valuable Gerrit Cole or Aroldis Chapman?
  17. Good discussion on metrics which reflect performance. Sano is an above average hitter who happens to be somewhat slump prone and vulnerable to pitches away. That is a description of numerous MLB hitters who have reasonably long careers in the game. Hitting a baseball is difficult even for professional athletes.
  18. Power plus decent pitching and defense was the formula for some recent successful seasons. Good to catch a glimpse of it today.
  19. The strong reactions both in support of this trade and against it are not surprising. Count me as a supporter, both for this season and especially for the next few. Rogers was very good alas with only one year at most likely remaining with the Twins. In Paddack, the Twins have acquired a SP who could develop into a solid rotation piece for three seasons. (He is young and has shown ability.) In getting Pagan, the Twins have added back to the BP - no Pagan is not Rogers, but he has had some success as well. In surrendering Rooker the Twins gave up a player that had no future with the club. This trade has the potential to be a solid win for the Twins.
  20. In a 162 game season games seemingly can be overlooked in the interest of down the line possibilities. But all 162 count, especially if the Twins hope to contend and the Twins should be patient as feasible looking at all options to best fill the 28 player roster even if it's only for a month or so. I think there is too much gnashing of teeth about the bottom of the 40 man roster.
