I'm just going by the period since they started signing homegrowns and buying out FA years. Deals like those are good for keeping the base at a higher level. The team is sitting what $40 mill? under 2022 payroll. Rodon, Swanson, and maybe Thor, JD Martinez are the only ones left that I consider good fits that will put a large dent in that. I don't see the Twins signing more than one of those four players, and I really don't like the years that Rodon wants considering his health history. If they can't get those guys, why not use the payroll to buyout FA years on Joe Ryan, Luis Arraez or even Jose Miranda? I understand that not everyone will think those particular players are the correct targets for those kind of contracts.
