Will the Front Office Choose to Build a Better Bullpen?
weitz41 replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I'd really like to see the FO splurge on the BP. They've got a lot of young arms that they'll have cheap for many seasons to come. A couple of 2-3 years contracts in the 3-7 mil per year range shouldn't be out of the question. There are plenty of quality BP arms that should fall into that range. Michael Fulmer, Robert Suarez, Carlos Estévez and Pierce Johnson should be in that group. Plus another veteran or two in the pen should help the young guys at their craft.- 40 replies

Sign him to be our #5 and if/when Meada or Ober can stay healthy...Which after last season seems like something you have to plan for the worst-case scenario. You can trade him at the deadline is we actually have a healthy season from most of our starters.
-
Stashak has been good when not injured. But good enough to hold a 40 man spot? Garlick crushes lefties but not much else. Seems like someone you can upgrade with a FA Pagan this one is dicey...3-4 mil for a decent RP is kind of a bargain. Now before anyone that reads this starts typing a response. Please ignore the 1st 1/2 and look at the stats after July 4th. Similar or better the Taylor Roger or Trevor May. NO, he shouldn't be pitching the 8th or 9th inning. If our wise FO and manager are stuck at 2 times through the order Pagan to finish the 5th or pitch the 6th at his cost makes some sense.
-
I get it. But the FO didn't give him that extension because of what they didn't like. There's something there they had hoped to capture. 1-3 mil with all kinds of bonus's making it a wash between declining next season and him earning it isn't out of the question. It seems highly unlikely but not impossible 1st thing I'd like to get out of the way is I'm not a big fan on Bundy. Signed to be the last starter he IMO did his job and at times did it very well. Again it depends on what Meada and Ober do. If they continue to be limited in innings Bundy as our #5 would be a good thing. If not, he could be traded with prospects for an upgrade elsewhere.
-
There were times Bundy was our best or most consistent starter. I'd be good with him returning if Meada or Ober end up in the pen as long relief. Also love or hate Sano. I could see a low-end incentive filled contract from the Twins. Especially if the decline Urshela or trade him.

What Can We Learn From the Playoff Catchers?
weitz41 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I get stealing strikes wins games. Right or wrong it seems like huge advantage to have a catcher that actually hits his weight. A two out run scoring single should be more valuable then one or two balls called a strikes in a game.- 12 replies

Planning for the Future Behind the Plate
weitz41 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Chris Williams season number are good but most on that is from AA. His Saints slash line is .192/.290/.424 .714 so pretty mediocre. I'm in this boat. Jeffers has a decent chance to be a good catcher. I hope they keep him around for awhile yet. I'm not sold on him being a #1 catcher though. Narvaez had an OPS+ 71 in 2022 and OPS+ 101 in 2021. I get the lefty/righty platoon. But there should be a better option then that. Boras Corp usually drags things out till Feb so it's likely the better FA catchers will be locked up before the Twins have an answer on Correa.- 26 replies

Twins Trade Target: Sean Murphy
weitz41 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The price would be high..Very high... If it wasn't the A's would have already traded him. I'd guess depending on what happens at SS would determine what will happen. I'd prefer Contreras over parting with the prospects. 4 years @ 15-20 mil the farm should produce a replacement for 1 or both catchers by then.- 27 replies

Can Catcher Be Where the Twins Find Offense?
weitz41 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not convinced Jeffers is a #1 catcher so yes plz. Also I don't miss Garver or Rorveldt. Garver is injured more then Buxton and Rorveldt makes Sanchez look like an offensive star. The farm is slim pickings on anyone who could help anytime soon. Contreras would be a huge upgrade but I think a trade is the way they go. Someone like the Padres Nola or Mejia from the Rays.- 21 replies

I'm in the boat of it may be to soon to make that move. If one of Celestino, Lewis or Martin prove to be MLB quality CF offensively and defensively then the sooner the better in hopes of keeping Buxton healthy.

The Reclamation Starters for Twins Need to End
weitz41 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes this needs to end. With that in mind. I've seen a lot of complaining (in the past) about Mahle and Paddock with their injuries. If not for those trades there is a good change we'd have a Shoemaker type in the 5th starter spot in 2023. Paddock probably won't be starting games till 2024. So in 2023 you want Mahle or a Shoemaker type? In 2024 Paddock or a J.A. Happ type? The FO gambled on Mahle and Paddocks health and lost in 2022. But if those trades keep a reclamation project off the roster in 2023-2024 that's likely a win all by itself. Just me 2 cents worth.- 37 replies

Anyone that may play SS for the Twins in the near future should be a target to trade for not trade away. -
Handbook Preview: Framing the Catcher Market

Not that I completely disagree but Garver and Rorveldt played less games then Jeffers last season -
Handbook Preview: Framing the Catcher Market
weitz41 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not convinced Jeffers is a 1A so I'd prefer Contreras. But I think that's very unlikely. So give me someone who can catch 100 games. Gary Sanchez or Christian Vazquez would be good with me. -
Which Padres Pitcher Joins Minnesota Next?
weitz41 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Keep the prosects and spend some $. Nick Martinez if he opts out. He's a starter/long reliever and he was quite a bit better then Clevinger and Manea.- 11 replies

Rumor: Dodgers Interested in Carlos Correa
weitz41 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
What I'm curious about is...Was Scott Boras wearing a Dodgers jersey or baseball cap when he was leaking that to Heyman? -
The Lance Lynn approach to pitching. I agree. Throw it till they hit it then add in your slider/curveball/change up.
-
It's a completely different era of baseball. BUT Joe Ryans age 26 stats are similar to Brad Radke's in a few ways. Innings are not even close but that's due to the 2 times through the order metrics. Quite a few of the others are similar. FIP, WHIP, BB/9 H/9. Maybe we're lucky enough to see another Brad Radke. Off speed pitches will likely improve over time. Berrios got shelled his rookie season. He was vastly improved over the next few seasons. Ryan has been better so far. Not every stud pitcher throws 99mph.
-
I just hope the FO is aggressive with Correa. Give him their best offer right away and get after it if that isn't going to happen. Instead of this waiting for bargains thing I'd be a happy camper to see it come to an end..Start acting like they expect to win rather than the double dare you to find a better offer none sense...

Offensive overload of Ace Articles and discussion
weitz41 replied to Riverbrian's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
For a team which I seen a lot of people say doesn't have many holes it sure seems like they have a lot to do to be better than the 22 version. Yes, please bring back Correa. I think it may be time to move on from Kepler. I wish the FO would invest in the pen especially with the two times through the order plan for starters. Hitting coach, it was his 1st season in the position and I'm not ready to move on just yet. He could have played a big part in Miranda, Gordon and possibly Arreaz's good seasons. Do I think the FO will invest in the BP..No probably not, which is frustrating. Resign Correa..I expect it will come down to years and they are aways light on years. I doubt they'll go past 6-7 years and Correas going to want 8-10. Kepler getting moved IDK. Maybe they can find an expensive BP arm that they can trade him for. Josh Hader would work (kidding)
