  1. On the pitching side, I agree that we've seen what Hildenberger can be. I like the bullpen additions. There's enough organizational depth there that the bullpen should be fine/solid. If Gibson can just settle for a happy medium btw the two halves of last season, he's a solid back of the rotation guy. I think we should expect Erv to regress slightly to the mean of his career, which still makes him a solid #2 type starter. Berrios and Mejia are the two guys who, if they can continue to progress, can make this rotation much more formidable.
  2. The theoretical upside of this lineup is immense. I feel like Rosario is who he is going to be. None of Polanco, Buxton, Kepler, Sano have reached their potential. Maybe they won't but if they do......
  3. The fact that we have stats like this tells me we have too many stats. Eddie Rosario is a good baseball player who is still trying to get better. If anything, I feel like his attention to detail....routes, hitting cutoff men, throwing to the correct base, etc, are his biggest weakness on defense. His plate discipline has improved exponentially. On the bases, the decision making again is not always on point.
  4. Well, this FO showed last year how they will manipulate the 40-man roster to keep BP arms fresh. They may break camp with 7 relievers, but we all know we'll see a large number of these guys at some point. Who comes north may come down to how many options different pitchers have. The two guys I'm curious about are Hughes and May. Are they starters? Relievers? Where will they be? This FO has no ties to Hughes...would they dare just release him and eat the $$?
  5. Probably THE single most underrated part of a baseball offense is baserunning and not just stealing bases. Taking that extra base is huge...turn a single into a double, a double to a triple, going 1st to 3rd. To me, that was the one of the funnest things to watch with this team in 2017. With the exception of Sano and Castro, the regular lineup runs very well for each respective position...even Mauer at 34 runs better than a lot of 1B. Looking forward to more improvement in 2018.
  6. Curious. Do we think that the Twins are waiting on Darvish before they decide on Giminez? If Darvish goes somewhere else the #2 is Garver? And if Darvish signs the #2 is Giminez?
  7. I'm torn. On one hand, man I want to see what Garver can do. The new FO may not be as high on him as those of us on the outside are....or they wouldn't have brought in Castro on a multi-year deal. On the other hand, Giminez brought so much more to this team than just his numbers. His versatility and clubhouse/veteran presence obviously were keys to 85 wins.
  8. One thing you didn't mention Nick is that the Twins wouldn't have to give up draft capital to get Darvish, as opposed to some of the other top FA starters. Just another reason why they may be willing to pony up more for Darvish than we might be used to seeing from a Twins FO.
  9. I'm not a typical Minnesota Debbie Downer. I believe this FO is smart and will put this organization on a winning track for years to come. However, is anyone else concerned about committing the kind of money Darvish is reportedly asking for? The TJ surgery aside, he has become a 6-inning pitcher, albeit a good one. I'm not saying, I'm just asking if anyone else questions whether that type of pitcher is worth that kind of money.
  10. I would say the idea of Gordon being moved for pitching is good. Maybe Polanco moves to his more natural position of 2B then and Lewis is your SS.
  11. I 100% have no idea if this will be right. It's just fun to look at though isn't it? I don't think Dozier is at third, but who knows?
  12. To me, he's the one guy possibly missing here. A year from now, that should change.
  13. Love the list. I'll throw a little caveat into the statement on Sano "having the stuff superstars and MVPs are made of". For me, the jury is still out on that...and that was before the off field stuff. He certainly has the physical tools, but that jovial, laid back, fun-loving approach may be what prevents him from ever being the player he could have been. The greats, and I mean the real greats of recent past, the Griffeys, the Ripkens, the Thomes all knew when it was time to work and when it was time to play, and that there was indeed a difference. If Miguel figures that out, the sky is the limit. If not, he's Mark Reynolds Part 2.
  14. Agree 100% on first two points. If Presley doesn't figure out how to get some movement to go with the high velocity, he'll never be better than he is. Get a 2-seamer that moves? Then he can be lights out.
  15. Maybe. I'd say the forgotten guy is Trevor May, but he'll likely be healthier/better in 2019.
  16. Keep saying, this team has it's eye squarely on 2019. 2018 is going to be about finding out which of all these bullpen arms, hyped (Chargois, Hildenberger, Jay, etc.) or not (Busenitz, Presley, Curtis, Moya, etc.) can be put together to form a playoff-caliber bullpen. Rodney is a guy who they know what they're going to get, so he gives them a solid guy while they try to compete again in 2018. But this is definitely about fashioning a 'pen for 2019.
  17. Oh I agree. I'd rather see an Alex Cobb-type PLUS a good reliever than Darvish, for the same money. It's just funny...because that's how we Minnesotans have come to see our sports teams. What will go wrong? We're all waiting for the Vikings carriage to turn into a pumpkin (even though I don't think it will). Wolves are disappointing. Gopher basketball loses at Nebraska and almost loses to Drake......we tend to have a doomsday outlook on our sports. Even though our Twins have won two WS in my lifetime.
  18. This is clearly a signing where Falvine is hedging their bets on the young bullpen arms. It's not a big-money or long-term commitment. If the young arms don't start to pan out, they can make a trade in June/July and/or look to the FA market in 12 months. The eyes of the FO are clearly and squarely on 2019.
  19. I really just think they need a closer. Whether it's a guy who has been a closer before or a guy with closer stuff that they can move into that role. I believe the arms they have can be put together for a solid bullpen. Hildenberger can be the 7th or 8th inning guy. Trevor May, Tyler Jay, J.T. Chargois are all upside guys. Duffey can be a 6th or 7th inning guy.
  20. Maybe he can return in September and be a solid bullpen arm and then make a push for the rotation in 2019.
  21. My favorite part of the move is it shows how forward thinking, how "outside the box" Falvine are thinking. If things go according to plan, 2019-2020 is when this roster should be hitting it's peak. This move could make them much better for that run.
  22. Where do we sign for that trade!! Hate to see Gordon go, but if they can lose a top prospect at any position, it's SS.
  23. I find it hard to believe that any major league team would try to hide him in their bullpen for a full season. His analytics numbers (swing and miss rate, K rate) are just not very good right now. Can't believe anyone would see enough upside to put him on 25-man all year.
