  1. I feel like this season I’m in the film Groundhog’s Day. Every day we lose painfully. But every day I wake up, we’re only a game-and-a-half out of first.
  2. 1987 is irrelevant. Even if we assume there is the equivalent of that team’s talent currently on this team (probably a stretch)…1987 is still irrelevant based on the difference in playoff format. There’s a huge difference between getting hot and beating one superior opponent vs sustaining that and beating 2 far superior opponents….just to get to the dance. But you still want the Twins to get there because you need the players to get a taste…even if it means winning zero or 1 games. Plenty of new potential leaders on the club who you want to have that opportunity who haven’t had it before.
  3. As a Twins fan, I hope he’s managing that club next year?…but, yes…mostly just hoping he gets the health things figured out.
  4. Their best players are hurt…at least 3 guys the Twins would love to have not in the lineup tonight. Although it doesn’t explain the pitching issues as much. They’ll probably be around in 2023…undoubtably with a new mgr.
  5. Not buying it. We’re talking rookies. Hrbek was a rookie in 1982. He was also 22 years old in his rookie year.. Miranda is 24. Again, not really that close. Doesn’t mean Miranda won’t be as good or better than Hrbek some day. Could happen. But it does mean Hrbek’s rookie year was very very impressive not withstanding the 73 PA he got in ‘81 at age 21.
  6. He’s had a tendency to struggle mightily in August’s. Struggles moderately in all other months.
  7. He’s limited defensively (to be kind), he’s limited on the bases, he’s posted a 320 OBP with a 17/73 BB/K ratio. And in doing so, he has shown signs that he could develop into a very dangerous hitter. But in one short article, he just went from underrated to overrated. Fwiw…Miranda’s OFFENSIVE season (if he finishes strong) will compare with the rookie campaigns of some Twins greats…and also the likes of Marty Cordova and DANNY SANTANA. Not really close to Hrbek’s 1982, and not in the same universe as Oliva’s 1964.
  8. We need to retire the “but prospect x is y years younger than the ave competition” thing. It has limited relevancy in the lower levels, but egregiously irrelevant at the AAA level where the majority of players are the opposite of prospects…they’re certified replacement-level players, (or less). Balazovic is giving up a run per inning to the Tim Beckhams’s and Mark Contreras’s of professional baseball. Should it really mean anything that he is younger than them? The most troubling thing is that he’s been consistently horrible all year…really no flashes, followed by a few catastrophes. Just outing after outing of alarming ineffectiveness consisting of control issues AND lots of home runs. The hope is that it all goes back to control, because nothing’s been working.
  9. I was looking for 160-180 BA and 550-570 OPS. Can’t believe he’s underperforming. Think of where we’d be with a HOT Sandy Leon.
  10. Miranda’s already batting cleanup, so…my point would be “guys who’ve been hitting more consistently” don’t really exist on the active roster.
  11. Is it possible Cleveland is still sending Leon a check once a week?
  12. Who did you have in mind? Me?…I’d go with Aaron Judge…unless it’s too late to add him to the 25-man.
  13. Milb is more conducive to a ‘traditional’ functioning union than is MLB, where the union has done little more than negotiate on behalf of the star players for 50 years now. It’s hilarious because more money going to the minor leagues is the LAST thing the current MLBPA really wants to see. But the political ball is out of the bag, and the number of affiliated teams and players have been cut way back…so, it’s finally going to happen.
  14. No tune, but against the Giants… You could tell by the way we used the walk We’re a contending team, no time to talk
  15. Still, there’s something to be said for having a veteran guy like Pagan in the back of the pen who knows what’s it’s like to give up 3 runs late to blow a game, but then can come right back in the next big spot and only give up 1 or 2.
  16. Nothing that the roster spot would justify. Nothing. The only Billy Hamilton I want died in 1940. He could get on base.
  17. And yet, basically won the series for the Twins…the last time the Twins ever won a postseason series. Only want him if you are in it for one thing and one thing only. Winning.
  18. Twins have outscored their opponent 19-17 over last 5 games.
  19. Instead of Pagan? Yes. But it’s pretty easy to argue that he doesn’t DESERVE a call up or to argue that there are still a couple others that would deserve the call up more than he does. He hasn’t been very good at all in St. Paul. And it’s still a little early to call him up just because he’s a prospect. (Although that time seems to be rapidly approaching.)
  20. I said Varland was massively overrated at #12…benefitting from the “one of us” mentality. I’d love to continue to eat those words.
  21. It ain’t bad luck when you seriously hurt your hip swinging at a pitch. That’s simply having a body that isn’t constructed to be able to withstand the normal rigors of the sport. For every piano that’s fallen on Buxton there’s been at LEAST one significant injury like the most recent one. Better luck isn’t going to change that.
  22. The FO has whiffed quit a bit. Still, IMO, it’s much better to have continuity in the FO, than at manager…and I don’t see incompetence in the FO. Sometimes in the dugout all it takes is a change in tone/style…small stuff to click. Bottom line, I’d take about 75% of the managers in the league right now over Rocco. He has an excuse this year with the injuries, so I doubt anything happens.
