Article: Official Trade Deadline Day Thread

Recommended Posts

Light is a marginal prospect but when you get anything of value back for a non-roster invitee to camp in a season you are going to lose 95+ games its a win. Abad was a decent reliever but doesn't really have any value to the future. I'd give this a B just because Antony is doing what a GM should be doing at the trade deadline when the team is completely out of contention.

John Sickels took an in depth look at Pat Light this April, here's the link: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/4/25/11500342/boston-red-sox-rookie-pat-light-scouting-report

His conclusion: "Overall, if Light maintains his control he should be a useful bullpen asset. If his command maxes out he could close games eventually."

Fernando Abad.  Already 30 and couldn't even get a Major League deal last offseason.

Meh.

That doesn't mean you have to trade him for nothing.

Light has intrigue, but the Twins track record with hard throwing guys with control issues is TERRIBLE.

They better get a very good return for him.  I really wanted to keep him.  He is our only MLB worthy starter right now.

By all accounts the price on Santana was very high. If he is indeed on the move I expect it to be for a good prospect and maybe more.

You don't have to trade him.  But there's really no reason not to trade him.

To be fair, a high price to the Twins in the past has been "A couple pitch to contact lefties and a veteran OF to "lead"

Am I the only one that just despises the trade deadline?

I just hate seeing star for prospect trades. I don't want to see Sale pitch for anyone other than Chicago. I don't want to see Puig anywhere but LA. I don't want to see someone like Jay Bruce who has spent his entire career in Cincinnati play for NY.

Really?  Who cares about where Jay Bruce plays?  He's been in Cincinnati for 9 years, with a 111 OPS+ and 16 WAR.

Sale would be a mega-deal, and those are pretty darn interesting.  There will likely be multiple top prospects involved if he were traded, and very interesting to watch their careers develop to help see who "won" the trade.

Puig would probably be a challenge trade, like Cespedes for Porcello etc., and those are also pretty interesting.

I don't like it when teams get stars cheaply, usually involving circumstances other than talent acquisition -- the Yankees trade for Bobby Abreu comes to mind here, when the Phillies were being cheap/dumb.  But most of the recent prospect-for-stars deals are pretty interesting, from a baseball/talent perspective.
