  1. Interesting, Cody, thanks. And count me among those who appreciate your having Arraez this high on your ranking. Seems so many don't appreciate what he brings to the game. Maybe he is more of a 1960's player than during today's advanced metrics age. Those of us who enjoyed baseball back then do appreciate him. When so many of us here and elsewhere were agitated that the front office didn't do enough this winter to bring in more/better starters, Falvey seemed to indicate he was satisfied with what they had in their system. Could pitchers like Duran be part of the reason he felt that way?
  2. Great read, Seth. Many ask who will be the better big league player, Kirilloff or Larnach? I ask why can't both be great?
  3. Great article in today's Strib about Broxton. Had me thinking he could force a trade of Cave and give the Twins improved defense at all three outfield spots together with speed from their fourth outfielder. Expect they may also get something meaningful back for Cave.
  4. I think Rooker will see a lot of time with the Twins this year. Expect the Twins will use the year to evaluate whether or not Rooker is the player to step in as main DH and backup first base/left field after Cruz is gone. If it looks like he isn't that player, they can always trade him next winter or spring.
  5. You are probably correct. But I doubt there are any restrictions about his traveling to the Twins Cities a couple times later this summer for a week to have his knee checked out by the surgeon and hang out with the team in the clubhouse, on the field before the game, etc.
  6. Have been wondering about the Saints starting rotation, considering their unusual schedule. Seeing that they will have all 6-game series from Tuesday thru Sunday, would they consider a 6-man rotation? Has anyone at TD heard anything about this possibility? Will be thrilled if Jax is on this roster, what a great story.
  7. Having been a long-time fan of Thorpe, these comments could not make me happier. More important, they seem to be making Thorpe and the Twins staff very happy as well. There are several pitchers battling for that #5 spot in the rotation. Looks like Thorpe has tossed his hat in the ring with Shoemaker, Dobnak, Smerltzer and a couple of the young guns. With so many hats in the ring and only one spot (at this time), it is likely he will begin in St. Paul, or not. I am beginning to understand why Falvey made that comment about liking what the Twins had in house for the starting rotation.
  8. Thanks guys for completing this exercise, it is fun to see all your work and to agree or disagree with certain rankings. It is appreciated! Must say the player I am most excited about is Canterino. Noticed the same items you talked about as I read through this, ie, the organization is heavy on outfielders and thin in the infield and lefties. Assuming you have Sabato as an infielder and he could end up as a DH, the infield really is very thin. Thanks again Nick, and all.
  9. What did I say that you disagree with? Neither of us know how his spring will progress and whether or not he will be with the team on opening day. My comment was that I don't expect the Twins to base their decision of where he begins his year based on service time. Considering that the kid has yet to play his first game at the AAA level, it is possible some time at AAA would be best for his development.
  10. Which one, Cody? Heck, let's be greedy and hope all four have break-out seasons in 2021...big time break-outs.
  11. Wanted to copy what I wrote in John's Out of Left Field post: With what we have seen from the Pohlads the last year, everything they have done has been positive. When teams weren't paying their minor league guys, the Twins paid them the entire season. When teams were laying off employees, the Twins didn't. When local teams were donating dollars to social causes, the Twins tripled or better their donations. Recently there were comments that they would not be cutting payroll this year to make back losses from last year. The Twins are a 'class' organization, so I will say that I don't expect them to manipulate AK's service time. He may start at AAA, but if he does it will be because that is where his play this spring says is the best place for him to be.

  13. Will remain positive and looking forward to see him continue what began 17 months ago in the AFL. Like many of you, will be watching him at CHS field until he breaks in with the Twins sometime this summer.
  14. Great problem for the Twins to have. But I don't want to see the Twins trade Larnach until they know whether he or AK is going to be the better player. Would be a shame to trade Larnach and then have him explode into a superstar while AK is merely a solid starter (I expect AK to be better than average). Heck, maybe they both will become stars...we can hope, can't we?
  15. Interesting read. Hate that no DH is available when playing NL teams, that has to change at some point. Had to do a double take when I read your pick for the surprise player this spring. Not certain if you expect him to have a great spring, or to be with the Twins on opening day or soon thereafter?
  16. I expect AK to do well in spring training and be on the roster for opening day. Does Broxton have an out in his contract if not on the big league roster by X day?
  17. Thanks so much, Seth. What a fantastic interview with an exciting and interesting young man. He will be a great addition to the Twins family when he arrives, hopefully, later this summer.
  18. Love both prospects, but you may have sold me on the idea of Duran being our top pitching prospect.
  19. Did I read this right, 36 games against Omaha and Iowa? See 22 against Columbus, but only 12 against Toledo? I guess they will just be happy to be playing and not concerned with balance so league standings won't be all that meaningful. Saints should be happy with 70 home games, assuming they can get people into the stands. Don't recall how many home dates they used to have, but this has to be a lot more.
  20. Great article, Cody, thanks. I am probably a bigger fan of Kepler than anyone here or elsewhere. As I have stated previously, if Max can get his average up some and enjoy a long career I believe he will have consideration for the HOF. Why I believe his average can still improve at this age is because of where he came from and that it is still early in his baseball career. Its a heck of a lot different coming out of Germany than Florida, California, the D.R. or Venezuela. I will give Rogers a pass on last year as I believe his involvement in the ongoing negotiations as Player Rep might have had an adverse effect on his performance. I also understand that Duffey is as stud and want the Twins to get he and Rogers signed to extensions a.s.a.p.
  21. DocBauer again said everything I was thinking, thanks. But for me, putting a kid who put up miserable numbers ahead of the likes of Canterino, Urbina and others is a mistake. In this case, your selection of Cavaco at #7 is a head scratcher. With that said, I hope this kid develops into a superstar to replace Donaldson at third base when his contract ends.
  22. Count me among those surprised at how large the payroll is. Due to uncertainties with COVID, I was expecting them to come in much lower than last year, perhaps approaching $100M. The good news is that COVID cases are declining, people are getting vaccinated, and there will be fans in the stands in Ft. Myers. Will they have fans at Target Field on opening day? Don't know, but expect they have a good idea if yes or no. Ownership should be commended for approaching this year much like others and not wanting to recover some or most of the heavy losses from 2020.
  23. Didn't know what to think about this pick last summer, don't know a lot more now. Expect many of us are hoping he does as well as Jeffers, who also appeared a bit of a stretch when drafted. But Sabato isn't Jeffers, they are different people and we shouldn't be rationalizing one pick could be good because a previous prospect appeared to over achieve. So like most of us, I will be watching his progress closely this summer. You indicated he would be starting somewhere in May. Are the minor leagues beginning play in May? Are schedules actually set? Or is AAA beginning sooner as most of those players will be in spring training with the big league clubs?
