  1. And don't forget that "corner infielder" is hurt or there is a good chance he would be a Cedar Rapids right now. The Twins DO have good (possibly great even) prospects. We as fans get WAAAAY to hung up on that overly silly "Top 100" List.
  2. What??? I'm assuming this is sarcasm, because have you actually looked at his numbers? ...and besides even IF he was actually playing bad, he's only played 16 professional games. Until a player has played a few years, that label can't be accurately affixed.
  3. Here's the link for the Twins Draft picks http://puckettspond.com/2017/06/26/minnesota-twins-2017-mlb-draft-picks-first-taste-milb/
  4. I hate the SEC and ALL things ESPN Insider (completely irrational? Yes, beyond a doubt). Ok, that doesn't have ANYTHING to do with this article (nice right up btw Seth), I just wanted to get that out there. IMHO (and yes I know that means absolutely nothing), trading for either of those players right now just doesn't seem to make good business sense. I still love to watch Neshek pitch and love that another MN kid has made it good in the bigs, but... I can't help but feel that even IF a trade for either Hand or Neshek worked out in the Twins favor in some way it would amount to the baseball equivalent of a Pyrrhic Victory. How much would the minors and organization overall bleed to make that gain? Oh and btw... Granite? For those of us who have seen him play in person, yes he does have as much or even potentially more upside than Rosario.
  5. I'm #2! I'm #2!! Ok, now that I've got that out of my system. Great series, Twins got the good bounces, pitches, and just did the little things that they needed to do to win. Pretty great to see.
  6. Business trip to ChiTown a few weeks ago. Sorry... but not going back there ever again would be too soon. Not that the food wasn't good (the oldest Italian restaurant in Chicago has awesome Osso Bucco btw), but I'll go back to NYC and that zoo before I willingly head back to the windy city. Think my left eye is still twitching after the last trip
  7. Where Gordon ends up next year seems to depend greatly (at least IMHO and we all know what that's worth) on what happens with Dozier and Polanco. With BD and JP entrenched (for now) at 2B and SS, and Vielma's glove waiting in the wings at SS also, Gordon is almost stuck in a bit of a logjam. Not saying that things can not or will not change, this is baseball after all, but like Granite and the outfield situation Gordon needs to play everyday.
  8. Let the Wild Rumpus commence!! In all seriousness, I'm just throwing names out. I don't believe that Stewart will pan out as reliable MLB pitcher and Cabbage is an athletic infielder who really hasn't seemed to realize his potential and fully adjust to professional ball (at least offensively). I fully agree, Tampa isn't going to give Archer away without getting something major in return.
  9. I'd have to agree with you. Don't see it happening at all. Although I wonder if they added something like Kohl Stewart and Trey Cabbage to the deal it might fly.
  10. Heard a rumor the other day (can't for the life of me remember where) that the Twins were toying with the idea of trading Gordon (and cash?) for Chris Archer. Not sure if that deal would fly but it does seem intriguing.
  11. Love the in depth looks, keep it up. Between MLB.com and TD, it makes living in "THE SEC RULES THE WORLD MORTALS!!!!!!!!!" land bearable... lol.
  12. Easy on the "rural" players with "little competition". I live in the south Georgia/North Florida area and there are some really good players down here Trust me, my son plays with/against some of them.
  13. He was hitting 94/95 in the game against Kentucky, and he looked good. Wouldn't feel bad about that pick.
  14. I'd have to agree. As any one who has watched Gonsalves pitch, those numbers don't do his stuff or his ability to "feel" his pitches justice. I saw Mckay pitch against Kentucky, and he looked really good against a good hitting team. His stuff was just sneaky good. I've said it before, but pure velocity is overrated. Location and movement (as well as "feel") will always trump pure speed (Greg Maddux anyone?), and I'd take that in a heart beat over it.
  15. Don't you think that's a little harsh hybrid? Dozier may not be "Elite", but he still makes good plays and hustles all out every day. A player such as Baez for example may be more athletic, but lacks the solid fundamentals and intangibles of a player like Dozier.
  16. Baseball is a fickle and cruel mistress. This is especially true when it becomes beholden to the darkly tragic and cruel financial/business side of the game. We place so much of our hopes and dreams on, in my opinion, the greatest game on the face of the planet. Add to this the human penchant for panic and over reaction and it is understandable that we often come to these feelings of woe and vitriolic hate. For those of us who played the game growing up and/or who now have our own children playing... this is what we should embrace. That pure spirit, that childlike feeling of glee that indelibly placed our love of the game forever upon our soul. This is the reason we keep coming back. This is the reason we still believe and will always believe. So yes the Twins may very well implode. More players will continue to get hurt. The front office will still make head scratching decisions. But this is baseball, and despite that, the game is still pure. If you don't believe me, think back to when you played, or look in your son's eyes when he takes the field. This is why we come back. God created the Heavens and Earth, and after resting... He created baseball so that we might always remember that purity.
  17. “Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn't even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they carry the battle. Ah, but the one... one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back.”
  18. These are the decisions that make me glad I'm not the GM. Although I do have to bark a little bit about calling Wright or McKay consolation prize "Safe Picks". By all accounts Greene just oozes potential, that 100 MPH on the radar gun screams sexy, but... I'm not sold on that alone. 2 Seam/4 Seam, what kind of movement does it have? Can he locate consistently against good hitters? Can he change velocity and or arm angles? How will he respond the first time he makes a great pitch that a hitter deposits in the parking lot? I know a local guy from our area that was drafted by the Red Sox. He could hit 96/97 in HS but had no real secondary pitches (his words, not mine). He had always just blown it past hitters his whole career. He gets to rookie ball and makes a great pitch to a hitter who promptly delivered it to the parking lot. Coach tells him afterwards, 'That was a heck of a pitch, but up here everyone can hit those'. Four years later, the player is out of baseball (although injuries didn't help any either). Guess my point is that just being able to throw hard is not a guarantee of success and the other options that the FO is considering are potentially really good players as well. That being said, it the Twins do decide to "Go Greene" I will still root for him to do well and succeed and hope things turn out for him. I'm just glad that I don't have to make that choice.
  19. Glad to see him bounce back. I'll take effective over pretty anyday.
  20. Numbers make Hulk's brain hurt... Hulk get angry when brain hurt!!! Hulk SMAAAAASH ugly numbers!!!! I'm not going to even pretend to talk numbers (unless we start talking ballistics, and that's a whole different ball game - get it?.... sigh, nevermind). If he keeps up the play and the stats follow, sign him to an extension that works for both parties.
