  1. I look at Archer and the rays and the only thing that I can even remotely picture is at best a Pyrrhic victory. For those that are in a bromance love with his contract and potential, that's fine, I totally can comprehend that view point. But... the cost. I truly feel that he would come at more of a cost than the franchise could bear right now. I was taught a saying many moons ago when I entered my chosen profession... You can never miss fast enough to win a gunfight. Trading for Archer (just to make a trade in effect) would make waves in the media world, and the talking heads would gush and wake prosaic about the pluses and minuses of the deal, and many would feel a sense of vindication for the aggressive posturing of the FO, but... would it truly be worth it. If Falvine "go big" and make the splash, the glut of prospects it would take leaves the franchise with little potential for future growth or replacement of the current "core" players. Maybe this is the direction they might wish to go, but I seriously have my doubts. Our beloved Twins would bleed mightily to gain this ground. Once again I can only sit, wait and watch and be glad that the folks actually running the show are smarter and know way more about the game than I do.
  2. With some...yes, but the charity happens a lot more than most realize. For example, I happen to know from personal experience that Adam Wainwright put several million of his own dollars to build a new baseball complex in his home town for his old High School and the county (it's actually a heck of a nice set up and my son and his teammates absolutely love it).
  3. He 50% catcher, 50% Gym Rat, 50% Mountain Man! That's 150%!!! HE'S HUGE!!!!
  4. So I’m guessing you’re not much of a fan of this signing and you disapprove a many fans exuberance (and puppies). Give the Governor a Harummph!! And get off my lawn!!!
  5. I think I have to agree with that one Steve. I've always felt Archer has great "stuff", but... he's been in the league long enough now that you would think he would/could be better than the stats he's put up. Something just doesn't add up when you compare ability with performance. To me, IMHO, he's more of a thrower and less of a pitcher. Sure he gets a ton of K's, and that's sexy to a certain point but, K's (like homeruns) are boring and fascist. Now I'm not saying that they're not important, but they're not the be all end all / Alpha and Omega. Plus, the perceived price for Archer to me just seems like, well... even if he did do well for the Twins, I have a feeling in my gut that it would wind up being a Pyrrhic Victory for the FO.
  6. My question for many of the folks who say Gonsalves only has 4-5 range "stuff and potential"... have any of you seen him pitch or looked at his track record through the minors? There is a reason that he's one of the top rated LH starting prospects by MLB. I'm not saying he (or Romero) are untouchable, but... seriously?? He has potential, the kind you don't lightly give away. I get the whole shiny, new toy syndrome or the allure of selling your cow for some "magic" beans, I do (I also really despise the Yankees and the SEC/Alabama... but that's another story and rant), but at a certain times you have to stand back and trust some of the cards you have in your hand.
  7. For me, in the end, I would have to vote my conscience and my heart. If I had a ballot, I would vote Johan in simply on talent alone. Would a longer career and larger sample size of numbers help make the case stronger? Absolutely. But since injuries cut him down in his prime, I would vote what my heart tells me, and that is that he should at least be on my ballet. The rest I would leave up to the other voters consciences and the Good Lord's will.
  8. Well then Good Sir, I must beg to differ and ask that we agree to disagree.
  9. Probably. But in all fairness, Hughes is more of an injury problem than a lack of ability.
  10. Well said. This is the first time in a long time that I am truly intrigued by the offseason and the front office. Falvine have shown, albeit in a small sample size, to be very forward thinking and willing to take risks. Great to see.
  11. Well said. At the same time bat wise, let's not forget Mitch Garver. Maybe I'm reaching a bit, but if he takes the next step in progression he could really be a force multiplier with his flexibility and bat.
  12. I'd agree Good Sir. Dilly Dilly!!!
  13. I haven't seen him pitch in person. For some reason we always seemed to not be able to make those games. Otherwise I'd have to agree, at least stat comparison wise and what other posters have said who have seen him pitch. I fully believe he has the talent and skill level to succeed, probably even at a high level. His "thing" (if you can call it that) like most pitchers and position players, seems to be the mental side of the game. Not worried yet as some guys just take longer to figure it out (Arrieta anyone?).
  14. Well said Han, I've seen Jorge pitch 3 or 4 times for the Lookouts now, and each time I've come away with the impression that his stuff pitches "up". Not anything that will blow you away, just kind of a "sneaky" good. Probably not a front line starter type, but if he realizes his full potential, maybe somewhere in the same ball park as Santana.
  15. Gentleman, I must agree that you are both probably **cough** correct **cough**. Are there 2B who are better/more athletic/greater range, etc. with the glove than Brian? Yes, that I will never argue. In short, thank you for accepting my rant (most likely with a Spock eyebrow arch and a "Who let the village idiot out again??").
  16. Ok, going to get on my moral high horse here, sorry folks... Only in Minnesota land could we ***** about our own players winning a high profile award. Why in the Good Lord's name are some of us "upset" about this? I just don't get it. Is it because some of us want him gone in exchange for newer shinier prospects? I get it, we all have our own favorite players and vision of what we want the organization and FO to do. But this is who we have right now. He's a good person, a decent to even very good player. Why can't folks be happy for him?
  17. True, I'd agree totally on the TOS... but Perkins tore his labrum. The fact that he could even come back pitch again at all was a victory for him (still scary though).
  18. Here's a thought. If Royce Lewis puts together a season similar to last year, does anyone wonder if the FO might not challenge him by sending him to the AFL? It might be a wee bit of a stretch, but given his talent level it might not be that far off either?
  19. Love the idea of the Box Score, very old school. Think that is something that we can all relate to. Great job on the writing and stories this season, really enjoyed it all.
  20. Ok, I've officially stepped into the zone of "I'm not even remotely hungry, but... I going to keep looking in the fridge 37, no 38, 39... oh the heck with it, I am NOT keeping track anymore!" I keep looking at MLB.com and TD like somehow, something will magically appear that will sate or relieve my (most likely neurotic) nerves, adrenaline, etc. I think I officially need a beer (is it socially acceptable to drink before 5 or even leaving work?) AAAARRRRGH! It's only Monday afternoon! I think I need a hug. Scratch that... I'll settle for a beer.
