Serious question: have we all given up on this team already? There's still hope the Twins can nab a game at home on Monday, you know. Oh yeah, these first two games have been a gut punch. Couldn't have gone worse, really. Frustrating. But they just need to win 3 straight. One game at a time. If they can take a game on Monday, this series becomes interesting again. But remember that double-header sweep in Cleveland? We need that mojo back. Is it too late?

This is what we all said the last time the Twins got crushed by the Yankees in the playoffs. And the time before that also. If you haven't seen the movie before, here's what happens next: we miss the playoffs for 7-8 straight years and the nightmare repeats a generation later. It's not about being nice or mean. None of these players are from Minnesota, it's not a cultural war between the Midwest and the East Coast. It's simply one team having resources and spending money vs. another team that doesn't have as much resources and doesn't spend as much money. It's the Waldorf Astoria vs. Extended Stay America.

Twins were just hoping to steal one last night, in my opinion. They played it safe with Berrios, he'll be rested by Game 4 if we need him then. By the time Litell and Stashak faltered, the Twins threw in the towel and let Gibby take more damage. Last night's game didn't matter to the Twins as much as it did the Yankees. Tonight's game will have a much different feel from a managerial perspective, I think. It's gonna be Romo, Rogers, in tight spots, no matter what part of the game the Twins are in. Remember, Yanks burned some bullpen arms too last night.

CJ Cron should have caught the double play relay. He also struck out on a 3-2 pitch that bounced about 10 feet in front of the plate. Cron, Litell, Stashak and of course Gibson just can't or aren't prepared to compete on this stage. Hope we don't see any of them tonight. Tough loss but you gotta have some faith that this team can bounce back. The Nationals were able to turn to Max Scherzer to even up the series on the road against LA. Alas, the Twins' version of a stopper is Randy Dobnak... The disparity in starting pitching between the Twins and other playoff teams is frightful.

Lots of talk about Arraez - hey, it's his thread after all! But this injury discussion reminds me: how's Kep doing? Sure hope he can adjust back to MLB speed immediately, the Twins will need him to be ready to hit.

Any word on whether or not the Twins can get Adrianza ready by the start of the playoffs? His return could be big for this team. Would rather see Adrianza than Schoop as the primary starter at 2B in this series, if indeed Arraez is confirmed out.

Detroit beat Twins 2-out-of-3 in Minneapolis a couple weeks ago. Was pretty brutal. Time for some payback! Hope Rocco puts in the "A" team here, I think everyone wants to see the Twins go for the clinch as soon as possible. -
Sano has unquestionably proven himself at the big league level offensively. Defense isn't his strong suit, but the guy can play third. Buxton was really breaking out this season as an all-around performer. It's a shame that injuries have continued to plague him. Jury's out, IMO. If I had to guess, I'd say Sano has a better overall Twins career.

Front Page: Week in Review: Closing In
bighat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Completely agree. I'm bamboozled by questions like "should the Twins trust Gibson with a start in the playoffs?", etc..... Are you kidding? The guy shouldn't pitch again until the Twins have clinched. Same goes for Perez. And they should both be left off the post season roster. There's no room to carry around dead weight. Give them both a courtesy start when the division is clinched, if the Twins can do it, but that's it.- 38 replies

At this point the Twins have to stay away from using Perez and Gibby, and it shouldn't even be considered to use them in the postseason. Twins have to roll with Berrios, Odorizzi, and Dobnak - if they do advance, there will be enough days off to get it done with just those guys starting. Gaterol and Stashak have emerged as nice bullpen tools here as the post-season gets closer to reality. Nice to see. Also nice to see Rosario start clicking. Heck, everyone seems to be clicking offensively right now - Sano, Cruz, Rosario, Polanco, Marwin G...now if we can get Kepler back and get him swinging a hot bat as we roll into October....

Indians host Philly for one more today. Then they have the White Sox and Nationals on the road. If you're the Twins, you have to assume Cleveland sweeps Chicago - based on recent play they don't lose to bad teams. Period. The Nationals may very well have wrapped up the Wild Card by then, although they still might be playing to host that play-in game. That might play in the Twins favor, but Cleveland matches up with Washington very well. I see Cleveland losing 1 game. Twins have got to win at least 3 of the next 7. On paper, they should be able to do that. Still have to win between the lines though. Detroit took 2 of 3 from the Twins in a big spot a month ago.

I've never liked Gibson very much. Sure, he's an average MLB pitcher and I know it's good to have those guys on your team. But frankly....Gibby's not very fun to watch. He's got to be one of the slowest workers in the game. We're talking about a minute between pitches. It feels like 10 minutes per batter. When he struggles, the half-inning can take 30 minutes or more. His bad outings get magnified because they're so painful to watch. Another star-crossed Twin is Byron Buxton. But fans seem to be much more in Byron's corner, because it's fun to watch him play. Gibson's brand of pitching, on the other hand, is one of the reasons MLB is testing out a "pitch clock" in the minors right now. I know he's a good dude and I've got nothing against the guy personally. But Gibson's slow pace (and mediocre career numbers) haven't won him any fans.

Went to bed in the 10th. Saw a notification on my MLB.com phone app that Anderson hit a HR in the 11th. Fell asleep thinking "rats". Woke up this morning and lo and behold the Twins pulled it off. Cleveland fans had to be shaking their heads after that one!

Just like the OP wrote: (L) Max Kepler-CF (S) Jorge Polanco-SS ® Nelson Cruz-DH (L) Eddie Rosario-LF ® Miguel Sano-3B (L) Luis Arraez-2B ® Mitch Garver-C (S) Marwin Gonzalez-1B (L) Jake Cave-RF To me, this is the best lineup the Twins can post (against a RH starter) and I hope to see this in Game 1 of the playoffs, if they make the playoffs (don't want to jinx).

"The Central Division is on ice" - what? Are you TRYING to jinx this team? You know we have Martin Perez going this series...correct? Against power-hitting Jose Abreu the league-leading RBI machine. Cleveland is home against the worst team in baseball to start the week, BTW. Ain't nothing "on ice" until the magic number is 0, IMO.- 14 replies
