I think you need to adjust what you expect from bullpens this year, if not going forward. Historically speaking the Twins might have a below average bullpen, but they are still and above average bullpen this year. Take a look around the league, disappointing bullpens are an epidemic and as much as you are disappointed, most other teams' fans are even more so. Well maybe not most teams fans as most teams are already out of the playoff picture and stopped caring about how terrible their team's bullpen is.

I like that they keep letting Thorpe work as as starter when they send him down to Rochester. This year I want to see Graterol in the pen ASAP, but I like Thorpe as a starting option this year should they need that option. I like the idea of Thorpe as the 5th starter more than I do Smeltzer.

Rooker's long absence for his unique injury has me a little worried that he suffered significant damage. Significant or not, the timing is too bad. With Cruz out he would have been a great candidate to get a call up.

Not a great matchup, but I like how the rotation played out for the Twins, this is probably how I'd draw it up if I got to choose. If we were going to "concede" one matchup, I'd put up our sketchiest arm against their best. Gibson has been the Twins best pitcher lately, I'd trust him to battle Clevinger over the other pitchers. Odorizzi gets the only ordinary arm in their bullpen and Berrios gets to deal against the rookie.

Most teams would love to have Schoop on the bench. Twins probably included.

Yeah, every batter who played for the Twins last year has reduced his strikeouts this season. Maybe it wouldn't have made a difference, but Sano may have benefited from spring training when whatever change struck the organization occurred.

As did I, though I enjoyed one of them much more than the other.

Buddies probably not. Catchers and pitchers tend to be quite sensitive when it comes to optics though, so I'll cheer for a rift to grow there. At least for the next two games. Eh, make it all year. I don't much care for Atlanta.

Yeah, I wonder how that played in his own clubhouse. I'm hoping for Not Well.

Yeah, in past years I'd agree with not bringing up a top prospect to ride pine, but no one does that. Every hitter on the active roster has over 100 PA and Adrianza has played in 62 games. If say Rooker was the call (once healthy), there would be ABs for him as the 4th OF and back up 1B.

Man, the Twins could really use Graterol and/or Balazovic to turn into the real deal. If they want to hand out more extensions, they need to find one or two cost controlled young starters, and not just guys who can slot into the back of the rotation. So that's two outings in a row for Alcala out of the pen, has the switch been made?

Also, a young controllable starting pitcher would be more valuable to the Twins than a corner outfielder who is fighting internally with 5 other legit corner outfielders for position in a lineup that doesn't project to have room for any of them this year or next.

Yeah, the Giants look like they're going to give it a shot. Not sure if that's the smart move, but no one's getting fired for that being only 2 games back, which isn't typically a 'seller' team. Giving it one more go before losing franchise icons Bumgarner and Bochy seems like the right thing to do for the fans. I don't have my finger on the pulse out in that area, but I'd think after their run to get back into contention, there might be quite a bit of nostalgia floating around the west side of the bay right now.

Which soon-to-be free agent did you have in mind? Zack Wheeler seems like the only major player I can think of and rumors of an extension for him have been floated for a couple weeks, and if no extension, then a qualifying offer most likely. Otherwise, Syndergaard, Ray, Minor, Boyd and all the top end relievers are all under contract through at least next year, most longer. Their teams can try again to compete next year, or they can try again to trade them in the offseason when there would likely be more bidders. I don't see many selling teams still holding on to expiring lotto tickets.

So Miami got a highly rated SS from AZ, but you assume position doesn't matter to them? They'd have been just as happy with a corner outfielder?

Stashak has been averaging nearly 2 innings per outing in Rochester, but I think Thorpe would stay due to his left handedness. But if I were the Twins, I'd make sure to get Thorpe as many innings this year as possible either in Minnesota or Rochester, because at this point, he's probably internal option number 1 to fill out a rotation spot from day one in 2020 should they need an internal option to step in.

Bauer from the Reds? Does the Reds GM want to be blacklisted from trades for the rest of his career? AZ gave up a top 60 SS prospect for Gallen, the Twins only have one of those, giving up Royce Lewis because of one game Gallen pitched against the Twins is how we get Hicks/Murphy swaps.

Front Page: Twins Acquire RHP Sam Dyson from Giants
nicksaviking replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not a big Dyson fan, but the only other relievers that went today that I had any interest in were Hudson and Elias so I'm not going to sweat which of the plan C options the team got. I really hope they get him to emphasize the cutter usage over the two seamer though.- 206 replies

I care more about the strikeouts, particularly when Sano is fielding grounders over my right shoulder.
