  1. Yeah, too many guys who aren't terribly good but also not too terrible that you willingly want to DFA them.
  2. I don't think he is either, I thought I was clear on the hypothetical situation. I was just wondering if there happened to be a slam dunk pick if both team and player would agree to preventative measures seeing as how much money is at stake for both parties.
  3. I'm looking forward to it. I only hope that the effort put into this show doesn't negatively impact Fargo season three since both programs have the same show runner.
  4. Yeah, the biggest thing for the Patriots was how much they had the ball. The first half Atlanta couldn't have done much about it because the Falcons scored using a pick six and a handful of big offensive plays, it's not like you're going to regret those points simply because you didn't hold the ball longer. But that last drive was Atlanta's chance to manage the clock to their advantage. And their O-line should not have been gassed. They should have been stiff and stale if anything, they hardly were ever on the field.
  5. Triple 'Like'. I wonder if there would ever be a HS arm considered the consensus top pick this early in the year and both the team and the player know going in that he'll be the choice so to prevent injury there is a mutual agreement that he doesn't pitch competitively (strenuously?) but instead only does simulated or side sessions working within a throwing program and with an instructor endorsed by the team? Not that I'm suggesting Greene is that guy, just a hypothetical I was thinking about the other day; an already anointed pick, like if Bryce Harper had been a pitcher or Stephen Strausberg had been a high schooler.
  6. Well I hope my post didn't sound too ominous or anything. It just had lots of new characters added with lots of different storylines not all of which seem to have a lot of purpose, but maybe they are part of a bigger picture yet to be revealed. Not all of the characters are as compelling as the original main cast though and it's hard to tell if it's the characters or the actors. That's in regard to the back half of the season anyway, the first half was more similar to the previous seasons.
  7. To be clear, you don't like Travelers? I was considering it because it had gotten good critical and audience reviews. However it looked like it had massive potential to be preachy and it also looked like the kind of show that might try to hard to hold the audiences hand instead of letting the viewers try to figure out what's going on.
  8. I like Vikings, without spoiling anything though, I hope recent developments in the story don't hurt the ratings and cause the show to go under, I suspect it could. I'm fine with how it's going, but I'm not sure how other viewers feel.
  9. I was hoping for that opportunity, but really only because I wanted to see Bryant miss the kick leaving the Falcons in the exact same spot to lose as the Vikings did in the 1999 NFC Championship game. Football may be the only thing that brings out the schadenfreude in me.
  10. Unlike baseball, lately I've had a hard time rooting for any football team. I was cheering against the Falcons because I'm still sore about 1998, but also because I'll be damned if another championship-less team wins a Super Bowl before my Vikings do. Unless that championship-less team is playing the Packers, Bears or Cowboys, then win away.
  11. If we're playing predictions, mine is Kintzler, Pressly, Chargois, Belisle, Hughes, Rogers and O'Rourke. But I would like to find room for Tonkin initially and Melotakis, Duffey and Hildenberger in short order.
  12. Yeah, I like riding my bike. It's been a little tough the last couple years though because my kids are old enough to bike, but too young to bike far. It's kind of hard to tell my kids I'm going out to ride my bike without them.
  13. My dad tore his in high school and I kind of think that stuff is genetic. A few years back after trying to get in shape by running (yuck) I got tendonitis in my achilles. Now I can't run more than about a mile without it feeling like it's on fire. Or so the excuse goes when my wife tries to get me in shape again.
  14. ***Mod Note*** I moved the Park related posts to the new Park thread created by Seth.
  15. Interesting, he used to be a "sinkerballer" back in the day: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/outcome.php?player=279571&b_hand=-1&gFilt=&pFilt=FA|SI|FC|CU|SL|CS|KN|CH|FS|SB&time=year&minmax=ci&var=pcount&s_type=2&startDate=03/30/2007&endDate=02/03/2017 He now only uses his sinker very sparingly. Maybe he was brought in to try to show Gibson and Stewart that it is possible to be cured of that disease.
  16. It seems Tonkin is the guy most see as the odd man out. He's actually the kind of guy I want to see if Falvey's new strategies will benefit. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/24826-article-how-will-derek-falvey-improve-twins-pitching/ A mid-90s FB and a slider are my two of my three favorite pitches. The first being a high-90s FB. At times he has looked really good. Looking at which bullpen options on the 40-man should get the boot, it kind of seems difficult. The pen was terrible last year (last decade) but it looks to me that there are a lot of guys that are just good enough or just young enough where you don't really want to toss them out. So I can see how Tonkin could be first on the chopping block. I can also see how Justin Haley might not make the cut which would cause a lot of us to wonder how the worst team in the league, with the first pick in the Rule V draft couldn't find room for a guy.
  17. I'd guess many of our educators on this board would disagree with this take. Coming from a family of educators, I believe that typically new curriculum and techniques get the kibosh at the administrative level, not that instructional level. In this case the administration appears to be very open to new curriculum and techniques.
  18. I'm really surprised by some of the responses to this article, this is easily the most encouraging thing written about the team this year. Yes, the team has done little to add pieces, but two of the biggest flags we hung on Terry Ryan and the previous regime was their resistance to innovation and the poor player development. This article makes it abundantly clear that the new guys have made these things top priorities. Embracing new ideas and emphasizing optimal development programs for the pitchers is far more important to this club's long term health than signing some third rate veterans. I'm just fine evaluating how these new strategies impact the players we have, maybe they'll turn out how we always expected them to with proper handling.
  19. Interesting. His age and low strikeouts make him look like a guy who'd be forced to take a MiLB deal. On the glass half empty side, I'd rather have a better free agent or give the job to a young guy. On the glass half full side, he's another of way too many RH relief options, which can't hurt May's odds of getting handed a starting job. Just please don't put another guy who can't miss bats in high leverage situations. Let's give this guy the bases empty in the sixth gigs.
  20. That was the last front office, seems unfair to hang that on the new guys. Even Trevor thinks he's going to start this year.
  21. Well I'd guess if the Twins sign Joe Blanton, Ryan Raburn and Justin Masterson people still won't be happy even if they match the Cubs 4 moves. There aren't any free agents that are going to significantly help this team next year, sure, I'd like something to happen, but in all honesty, I'd want something to happen because this offseason is freakin' boring and I want some actoin not because I think it would much matter come this summer.
  22. Well the Cubs were in the same position as the Twins not too long ago, however they hardly did anything in 2013 after losing 101 games in 2012. They made one big free agent splash in Edwin Jackson, which obviously was a terrible move in hindsight. Other then that, it looks like they just made minor moves signing Scott Feldman and Nate Schierholtz. The Cubs also had an awful pen in 2012 but all they added in 2013 was Kevin Gregg. Sure, one could argue that the Cubs did more in 2013 than the Twins have this year, but only minimally and to no great effect, they still lost 96 in 2013. The Cubs didn't make most of their moves until starting mid-season 2013 and not until they got the ball rolling did they start getting more active. I don't know why we won't let these guys test the waters first.
  23. What moves were there to make? The free agent class was awful. If you're still grousing about the Twins not taking the low-ball De Leon offer, well then it's only fair to play your ERA game with him as well. His ERA was also terrible last year. Sorry, but some problems do not have immediate solutions.
  24. Not that joke in particular, but let us know, we might have to delete the whole Sports Bar Forum to protect you from your past!
