  1. He's got a long way to go to scrub the memories of the last curveball-only reliever from my mind. Speaking of which, I don't think it's a great idea for this team to carry both Harper and Duffey.
  2. Not sure I like the idea of slotting him right into the lead off spot; we’ve seen him get too inside of his own head before. I think I’d like a 1-2 of Polanco and Buxton though. I have no problem making the change incremental though and slotting him in at the sixth spot in the immediate future.
  3. Great submission to TD by the way. I hope it goes without saying that criticisms found in the comment section aren't aimed at the interviewer.
  4. Which does bring up an interesting angle; the nearby restaurants and bars surely want the stadium to keep their prices high. While the Twins do offer some interesting options, most of it isn't exactly high cuisine stuff. It's not like you can't get a better qualify burger, sandwich or beer at two dozen places within three blocks of the stadium. So surely the Twins are only marking prices up to help promote the local businesses. Which one is the eye-roll emoji again?
  5. It was for their brand new stadium too. Just opened and they dropped food and beverages across the board. The must be doing OK, they are lowering the prices again for the upcoming season, hot dogs are only a buck fifty now: https://mercedesbenzstadium.com/mercedes-benz-stadium-cuts-food-prices-second-time/ I'd be nice if someone would ask St Peter about that.
  6. Well if they're not paid $15 an hour, how could they afford to eat one of the hot dogs marked up 800% that their selling? Scratch that, a $15 an hour job ain't going to afford them the money to attend a game. This was the first opening day since I was legal drinking age that I didn't have a beer. I'm not waiting in line for ten minutes for a Bud Light and I'm repulsed by the prices of decent beer. Thankfully Berrios was great and got us out of the stadium in under 3 hours so as I could pay Fulton a more reasonable price for better quality beer afterwards. As much as it might surprise St. Peter, I don't go to baseball games for the restaurants and concessions.
  7. Alcala is looking good, at least as far as numbers go. He hasn't finished 6 innings yet, but he also hasn't thrown more than 90 pitches in an outing and he's only issued three walks in four starts. His strike percentage last year was only 59% but so far is 62% this year. That's pretty close to league average at the MLB level. Keep it up Jorge.
  8. Nick Vincent signed a MiLB deal, had the Twins been interested in him they could have easily had him a month ago. Sam Dyson doesn't historically miss many bats, that doesn't sound like a pitcher on this new-era Twins. If the Giants aren't moving Will Smith now, I don't see much of a fit at the moment.
  9. I was hoping to hear more about why he wasn't extended this off season. Kepler and Polanco were while we heard enough to know that there were discussions with Berrios and Gibson. What about Rosario? I'd assume there was at least a conversation, but if that was made public I missed it.
  10. The Nationals deal with Norris fell through because they feel he's at least a month away from contributing. I'd pass on Johnson, he can't strike anyone out.
  11. I'm with you on May. I'm a fan of Rogers and Parker has looked better from his first couple of shakey outings but the jury is still out. Hildenberger? Maybe, I'm still on the fence after last year. But even if all four of those guys are good to great, there's always room for bullpen improvement, ask the A's last year.
  12. I wouldn't want to give up on Vasquez already, but even with all the strikeouts, the guy still was only throwing 90 MPH last year when he was up with the Twins. If that's what we are to expect from his velocity, I'm not going to expect great results from him at the MLB level. With Perez going to the rotation I think Stewart or Romero should be added to the pen, they'll need multi inning guys. Or they could skip AAA and get Cody Stashak from AA. One of my personal favorites and a guy who typically goes multiple innings. I don't think he's in AA because he needed remedial work, I'd guess it was because there were just too many options for Rochester and he didn't have seniority. Also, Kimbrel.
  13. Not at all, those young men can have at their video games. Seth said "I'm sure you recall", which I assumed was tongue in cheek because I would absolutely not recall considering my total lack of interest in e-sports.
  14. Yeah, comparing Austin and his one tool isn't fair to Benson who at least had three.
  15. I may have missed that. Congrats I'm sure are due to all who participated, I'm very proud of the e-talent our club has assembled.
  16. With managers' reluctance to play both catchers in the same lineup, it's probably hard to see Garver and Astudillo regularly on the field if Castro is sent down. I'd rather Castro be removed from the roster than either Garver or Astudillo sent down, but I'd keep him around if it allows for the other two to play most days.
  17. I feel bad for De Jong, but I was never terribly interested in him due to his inability to miss bats in the minors. I'd like to see Vazquez or Stewart in the pen instead. Assuming Romero isn't ready.
  18. I like the subtext here as well. Even though they're not in the same clubhouse, Garver's still chatting up the pitchers. That sounds like a real catcher to me!
  19. I would have even preferred low end pitching and see if Was Johnson is truly magical. But either way I’m glad they ripped the band aid off now instead of letting it linger into the summer. I think it was better for the anxious fans on both sides of the debate. And certainly better for Austin.
  20. Sure but if Andreoli is called up to the majors to be the 4th/5th OF, I think I'd still prefer he was the 4th OF in Rochester so the prospects could get most of the defensive reps. It's only been four games so we'll have to see how it plays out, but I'd worry that if Raley is stuck DH'ing half of the time, he's going to be pigeon-holed similarly at the majors. I'd also hope that if the Twins needed another defensively competent OF for a short term replacement, even if it's the 4th OF, that it would be Wade, not Andreoli. There are too many of these guys in Rochester right now. Even if it's sporadic, I hope they start giving them some MLB looks when they can because there will never be a scenario where there's room on the MLB roster for all of them. The clock is already ticking on figuring out the growing logjam of corner bats, they need to use any kind of injury replacement for MLB evaluations.
  21. Why is Raley playing CF and DH? Is Wade not a better CF candidate than Raley? And is Andreoli really going to be the primary CF? Because I'd like to see all of Wade, Raley, Rooker and Weil starting and playing the field most days. Also, Cody Stashak = future Twins multi inning bullpen ace who too many people slept on. A year from now 29 other teams are going to look at each other and say "I can't believe we didn't grab him in the Rule V!"
  22. I don't know, it kind of looks like he stole two maybe three strikes and had five maybe four strikes called balls.
  23. I wouldn't have minded trying him in the OF. Though even if they had, the way things are shaking out this year I wouldn't have wanted him to get too many at bats anyway. I used to be a platoon Kepler guy, I'm starting to buy into the hype and contract extension now though.
  24. If the rules had actually been meant to hold teams to spending limits there wouldn't have been penalties in the first place because there wouldn't have been the option of going overslot. There was no breached agreement, if there was, teams would have been forced to relinquish the rights to the prospects, as the Braves were forced to last year when they actually were in violation of International Signing rules. It was no different than going over the salary cap luxury tax threshold. Plenty of teams (used to) do that.
