  1. Interesting situation the Twins find themselves in. They have a surplus of talented OF and MI prospects, but don't really have any immediate offensive holes to fill. I hope the Mets fall back far enough to open up bidding for Syndergaard, but if they don't, there doesn't look to be much for top end starters available this summer. There will be relievers available, but it looks like most of the elite ones are either not on the rosters of sellers, or they are injured. Many of the relievers I find most interesting are probably more under the radar and may not garner big named prospects.
  2. Yup, Cody Stashak's my guy, and he's being groomed as a multi-inning guy too. He shouldn't be in AA right now Going externally, I think my top priority would be a starter over a reliever (though I'd take some of both). Mostly because I think Pineda's 4-seam/slider combo might play pretty good in the bullpen and shaving his outings down to 1 or 2 innings, he might end up being a better bullpen upgrade than what's available in trade.
  3. It's starting to look like it's going to be a disappointing end to what three years ago looked like a great story for Hildenberger. Still, even it he doesn't get another shot, overall it was pretty good run for a guy drafted in the 22nd round.
  4. Yeah, nice list Diehard. At one point I wanted just about everyone on that list. Funny thing though, of the top tier guys, the two I least wanted were Ottavino due to his long history of control problems and Britton as he had fallen back on what I felt was an outdated sinker and was putting the ball in play too much. I usually laugh at myself when i'm completely wrong, but it stings a bit when it ends up being the Yankees who somehow had it right.
  5. I'm right there with Tom. The bullpen has been just fine, but I don't trust it so I'd like to find some upgrades. And while I wanted Kimbrel early on, I don't trust any pitcher to round into form this late into the year. I would disagree in that while his end of 2018 numbers aren't pretty, his velocity is likely still good enough to work; but perhaps not until 2020. So I'd take him on a multi-year deal but I'd think there'd be a better than even chance that he'd be a pretty big liability for the 2019 club.
  6. I was an advocate for Buxton to move up early, but since everyone is hitting, I don't know that I much care. If I was going to move him up, I'd probably put him in the #2 hole and have Polanco lead off though.
  7. What?!?! How was the manager and pitcher arguing that ejection? The guy intentionally threw behind Lewis because of the silly push-up thing. That manager looked pretty young, and I feel bad for saying this, but if he thinks retaliation is justified for a batter doing a push up at 2nd base I hope he's never considered for promotion.
  8. I'd like there to be as many good options as possible for the pen, but unless Vasquez can gain significant velocity I don't think he'll be able to do much at the MLB level.
  9. Please go to Pensacola for relief help. I've definitely got my preferred choice but there are a few arms down there that I'd rather see than Adams or anyone else still hanging around Rochester.
  10. Perhaps it could be that the Twins are hopeful/expectant that Graterol may be able to contribute to the big club this year so they aren't going to have him eat up all of his innings down in the panhandle.
  11. So the solution is to not get too many good international players and draft picks in the same years? They should just get one or two they like and then a bunch of chumps so they don't have to pay them 8 years down the road?
  12. I'd be more open to giving 2nd chances and rolling the dice if the team wasn't in 1st place. I don't feel compelled to cross my fingers that the team can wring more value from the contract. If they were in the tank and I thought even at a long shot Reed could regain a bit of trade value come July 31, then I might say let's see what he's got.
  13. If it all correlates, then the same direct line that runs through the proper amount of rest and his effectiveness should also run through what is a velocity that is capable of success, which when he was rested last year appears to be 92 MPH. Since rest is pretty arbitrary and his effectiveness can't be determined until after the fact, shouldn't we just determine if we want to go forward with him based on his velocity which has already shown to be an effective gauge of his success?
  14. He was good in the past, but that just emphasizes that he's getting older. Seeing as his early season games last year coincided with his just barely acceptable FB velocity and his statistical decline coincided with his velocity drop, I don't think we should evaluate him on his track record from 2012-17 so much as his velocity. From my view, if he's not back up to at least 92 MPH on the four seamer, the track record indicates he's going to get shelled.
  15. Cave goes first, then my money is on the team trying to get Morin back through waivers and accepting a Rochester assignment. The Twins haven't had much issue getting relievers through waivers lately. I'd bet Adrianza won't be on the chopping block unless the rest of the roster stays healthy when they have to make a decision on Mejia, but they still might choose to cut ties with Mejia over Adrianza seeing as Mejia hasn't been too helpful this year and the team is leading the division. I don't think Reed suits up for the Twins again unless his return to health coincides with multiple injuries on the 25-man.
  16. I wouldn't want to lay it all on Gardy or anyone else, and I also wouldn't necessarily label it defeatist only because I can't say what those guys were feeling exactly, but whatever it was, there was a bad aura around the club that EVERYONE felt, fans and players.
  17. I feel a lot better about playing the Yankees and any of the other teams the Twins have laid down for in recent history now that the people running the show both on and off the field have basically no ties to the prior leaders. I'm a stats guy so this is going against the grain for me, but I always felt the Twins history of losing to the Yankees was only due to 30% having inferior talent and 70% having an inferior attitude. Oh, I guess that was a stat after all.
  18. I don’t mind keeping Castro, my problem is how many starts he’s getting.
  19. While that's not good, the team has a .127 point OPS differential at home vs on the road. No one likes hitting in the cold.
  20. Also funny, Brooks Baseball is calling Harper's less loopy curveball a slider. It must move a bit more horizontally: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/outcome.php?player=607560&b_hand=-1&gFilt=&pFilt=FA|SI|FC|CU|SL|CS|KN|CH|FS|SB&time=month&startDate=03/30/2007&endDate=04/23/2019&s_type=2 74 MPH sliders are still curveballs in my book.
