  1. Maybe the rival scout works for the Braves... They're seemingly the only ones to believe strongly enough in Suzuki to go and get him.
  2. I think there'll be several differences when the team goes north: • Haley will be in the bullpen, and Chargois will be at AAA. • Mejia is the fifth starter, over Vogelsong and Berrios. • Park will be DH/1B; Vargas at AAA. • Adrianza and Escobar will be the backup infielders. • Danny Santana will be released or sent down. Grossman will be the fourth OF. I do agree that Gimenez will be the backup catcher, and could play in the outfield as well. What they do with Danny Santana is, in my mind, the biggest question mark. He's been hitting well this spring, but really doesn't have a position, and he doesn't have the power to be a DH. But he's been hitting real well, and in some crucial spots, so they might give him a chance. But I'd hate to lose Adrianza.
  3. I think you've got it. I hope – and expect this is the roster they will take north. I suspect if there are any changes (barring injuries) it would be Haley, Adrianza or Mejia to get swapped out, but I hope not. I think they can all be very good contributors. With all due respect to Rosterman, I disagree. I think this team – especially with Mejia, can win 80+ games. If I were to take anyone out of your roster, it would be Santiago (hopefully via trade to a NL team) and put in Berrios. I'd give him another shot.
  4. Fun list, thank you. As for the final five, I'd swap Romero and Gordon. Romero has the stuff to be a No. 1, and Gordon is really good, but feels more like a No. 3.
  5. Even if Buxton bats leadoff, someone will be batting in front of him most of the time. I'd probably lead off with Mauer vs. right-handers, and Dozier vs. lefties.
  6. It's good to hear the Twins won BIG. And pitched well. You didn't mention the bullpen's efforts: Belisle, O'Rourke, Pressly and Boshers each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
  7. Agreed. Five OF is overkill. I don't think Stubbs makes it. I still think Ehire Adrianza will make the team. He's the best fielding SS they have. Even if he rides the bench, he makes a good guy to go in in late innings to hold a close lead.
  8. I don't often agree with you, Thrylos, so relish it. I agree that Haley has got a much higher ceiling than that of a mop-up guy. I see him actually in the rotation for part of 2017. But to start the year, at least, it's a good role for him. But I suspect if Santiago continues to falter, he'll be released rather than put in long relief.
  9. As for the K rate, I don't consider that as important as ERA or wins and losses (yes, I know, that's horse and buggy thinking). And 90 strikeouts in 90.1 innings is not bad, anyway.
  10. I'm going to politely disagree with you – until I'm proven wrong... So is the Southern League also considered a pitcher-friendly environment? If Romero dominates in Chattanooga, will he be considered a possible #1 prospect? How about in Rochester? I'd say his record in A ball is still very impressive, and I believe he's the Twins' best shot at a #1 pitcher. If he falters in AA or AAA, I'll gladly be considered wrong. And maybe he is only a #2 or #3. But for now, I disagree. I agree with the TD #1 ranking. The Twins have some bright young pitchers in Gonsalves and Romero.
  11. Unfortunate only from the standpoint that they are not youngsters. I'd like to see the youngsters pitch. But alas, we will still need veteran arms to show them the way...
  12. Have you actually looked at his stats for 2016? In my book he's easily a number 1 pitcher. He dominates. I tend to look more at results than stuff, but he has the stuff and results to be a no. 1. He was 9-3 last year with a 1.89 ERA, with a 6-1 K/BB ratio and a 0.90 whip. He dominated last year. Right now, he's a legit No. 1. Will he stay there? Time will tell.
  13. Mine would be 1. Romero 2. Gonsalves 3. Berrios 4. May 5. Mejia That will be a really good rotation. Unfortunately, guys like Santana and Hughes will still be under contract throughout 2018. Hughes is locked up through 2019, but he could be moved to the pen. So it might more realistically look like: 1. Romero 2. Gonsalves 3. Santana 4. Berrios 5. Mejia/May At least until the end of 2018.
  14. I really hope DanSan won't be on the Twins' roster this spring after ST. Could we trade Grossman? I mean somebody out there would probably like a player who can hit lefties, right?
  15. Or at least more than 9 games. I realize Kirilloff only had 55 games last year, but that's at least a good portion of the season.
  16. It was Thrylos' list that had Javier #1. He might be that good, but I'd like to see a full year in the minors before I even consider that high of a ranking.
  17. TD had Javier as its top prospect – I thought that was way too high. SORRY – It wasn't TD, he's #6 on TD's list.
  18. This is a really good list. hard to argue with it. TD had Javier as its top prospect – I thought that was way too high. I think Kirilloff could be a legit #1 prospect – probably to be replaced when we draft #1 this June. I consider Gonsalves and Romero to be neck-and-neck at this point – #2 and #3 is about perfect for me. They're both very, very good prospects IMO. I'd just quibble a little about the back end – I'd put Mejia at #7, Diaz at #8, Blankenhorn at #9, and probably Garver at #10. But it's a really good list, and close IMO. Good job.
  19. I don't know that they should give him a full year. I think you evaluate where players are every week – but he should be given at least two months of leash. He needs to improve, but, he has to be able to do the job offensively and defensively. I think he can. But if he's struggling, especially defensively, after two months, you start looking at alternatives, additional coaching, more platooning, something.
  20. I have Haley in the starting rotation, along with May. I'd like to see Berrios in AAA for a little more seasoning, and be the first one up. Vogelsong does not make it, and I think Hughes might be on the DL. Santana, Santiago (at least in the beginning), Gibson, May and Haley will be in the rotation. But, as a warning, Gibson and Santiago are on short leashes; if either falters, Berrios will be ready to step in. Duffey will be in the bullpen, but could make some starts.
  21. I have Adrianza on my tentative 25-man roster. I'm looking forward to seeing him field. Here is a link to Adrianza's highlights as a SF Giant:
  22. I would rate Romero and Gonsalves ahead of Mejida, but he was still a good get for Nunez.
  23. Good analysis. Your analysis does not mention outfielders – does that mean it's not a source of strength or weakness? Same with 1B/3B/DH types - I suspect because we have plenty, but they're not great.
