  2. Positioning The Twins Lineup For Success.... My mistake! I thought this was a Self-Help Seminar.
  3. Assuming that the increase, followed by the decrease in average age were caused by the same reason (but opposite directions) is an incorrect assumption. IMO the increasing age starting in the 70's was due to the huge growth of college baseball. IMO the recent declining age is due to the huge salaries for veteran players compared to younger players, making younger players more valuable for the dollar. In other words, different causes driving the ages in different directions; rather than the same cause trending in opposite directions in different eras.
  4. "One could assume this was due largely to players’ careers being extended artificially by PEDs. Or one could also possibly assume teams were selecting older players in the amateur draft or perhaps being more deliberate with their prospects" Or MUCH more likely, many more players were playing COLLEGE BASEBALL, because of its increasing popularity, instead of signing out of HS.
  5. Seth, This may be off-topic, but : I would like to know what the opinions are regarding the Twins 9th round pick this year, LaMonte Wade from the University of Maryland. His slash line at Elizabethton was .312 /.428 /.506 /.934 and he stole 12 bases in 13 SBA. Hard to not notice.
  6. . Signing a STARTING outfielder who knows that Buxton, Rosario, Kepler and Sano are NEXT YEAR'S outfield, is not easy. The Twins would be offering a one year contract to a guy who wants more years, which will be offered to him by another team.
  7. Exactly. Hicks has power, gets on base, but doesn't hit well, YET.
  8. We have all heard the timeless adage that "you can't have too much pitching". That may be true, but I think the Twins are proving that you CAN have too many pitchers at Spring Training. Twenty-two pitchers on the roster, plus eight non-roster invitees = thirty pitchers in camp looking for bullpen time. If any of you are traveling to watch Twins ST at Fort Myers this spring, you should pack your catcher's mitt. They NEED you!
  9. I guarantee, save for TRANSACTIONS (and injury), your pitching staff will be updated by Opening Day! If I am wrong, for FREE, I will give to you a brand new guarantee!
  10. Revere's BA age 23-25= .267, .294, .305 Hicks' BA age 23-25= .192, .215, .256 Revere's worst BA (.267) >> Hicks' best BA (.256) Revere's career BA =.295 Hicks' career BA = .225
  11. Revere always was a Big-League hitter. So far, Hicks has not been a Big-League hitter. I have known Hicks since he was a 13-yr-old. He is a good kid and I really hope the hitting will develop for him.
  12. I think you forgot about Ervin Santana, unless you know his PED dealer who told you he will be unavailable
  13. I'm getting little off the subject. Just want to say that Sickels used to be knowledgeable on ESPN which is good, but he claims to be a poet. He may have written the poem called "There Once Was a Girl from Nantucket", but I have not heard of evidence of that.
  14. Looks and wealth IS a high bar! Agreeing is easy for many people, as long as there is no limit on mind changes.
  15. Of course there are budget restrictions! The honest man is also a very loyal man who is protecting his boss. Should you be a disloyal whistleblower, or loyal spin-master? In many jobs you are forced to make that choice. Twins GM is one of those jobs.
  16. It's John SICKELS, and his opinion should be respected. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Sickels
  17. Most exciting part of a baseball game is watching a change of pitchers.
  18. No argument with that. As I said...My comment was only regarding the "message" in Tom Froemming's post that pitching TOO WELL in the bullpen, may get you a life sentence in the bullpen.
  19. I know it was a typo, but "Danny Daffy" is a perfect name for many pitchers I have met.
  20. I agree. My comment was only regarding the "message" in Tom Froemming's post that pitching TOO WELL in the bullpen, may get you a life sentence in the bullpen.
