  1. Sounds like he may need to add 3-4 miles to his fastball to have a shot at the majors. Maybe that comes through shorter pitching stints as a reliever or a bit of coaching magic.
  2. Kepler has not played like a full time regular the past couple of years. A platoon with Rooker or Celestino, a pair of right handed hitters, might give the Twins good coverage in one corner spot. Use Larnach or Kirilloff to cover the other corner. Kepler might also come in as a late defensive replacement if the situation warrants it. Kepler has never been consistently strong against lefties and after 6 years in the majors he doesn't appear to be able to make the adjustments. Some guys can't. People want to dream on 2019 as if that was the expected Kepler, but it really hasn't been.
  3. I think at some point most pitchers think the will come back within a year of Tommy John. Very few ever make, let alone make it with their former "stuff".
  4. A staff full of closers and ace starters. Chagois, Stewart, Jay, Thorpe, Gonsalves, Burdi, Reed, etc. Some cups of coffee no full pots. Not just with the Twins but haven't made it anywhere.
  5. As far as Martin goes, he appears to be a good hitting athlete looking for a position. It also appears there are only 4 players in the system rated more valuable them him. With 8 positions he could fit into including the DH(probably not catcher), I think we find a position for him. We don't need to trade our best players, considering that he can also fill in at two of the position taken by players ahead of him.
  6. All I to say is "keep plugging talent into the system". It may be 2030 before we see it, but the game keeps going on.
  7. I wonder where these guys will start the season. The starting rotation for most levels could well be stacked. I'm hoping for a high success rate. Can players on the 40 man roster pitch in the minors if the lockout is still in effect? Could Ryan and Ober pitch at triple A just until the regular season started if need be? If so, The Saints could have quite a rotation to start the year. I agree with "Major League Ready" on the top 5.

    Bring on the kids

I mostly agree with you except for Donaldson. I've never been a fan of his and didn't like the signing. I realize with $50mil or more due him it would be tough to trade him but I still think the future Twins would look better without him now taking a full time spot now.
  9. We do need some of best arms to make the rotation even if it takes an extra year to be ready. I would prefer 4-5 years of the best arms in the rotation than bullpen. How many years do top free agents starters really have before they leave their original team?
  10. It would have been nice to think that Spring Training was only 6 weeks away. I will be watching more minor league baseball this year. Which may be good, considering that many of the best players won't be promoted to the major leagues any time soon.
  11. I think Edouard Julien could be a player making more noise next year. This was his first season, as he was injured his draft year of 2019. He finished the year at Cedar Rapids with an 891 OPS. Most of his at bats were at Cedar Rapids and combined with his time at Ft Myers his OPS for the year was 914 with 18 homers and 34 stolen bases. His strikeout rate was 28.5% but his walk rate was 22%. I would think he'd start with the Wind Surge this year.
  12. No, I don't think I made an argument to trade Winder. You can of course try to interpret things to fit your personal argument.
  13. People keep on wanting to trade the teams pitching prospect without giving them a chance to develop into pitchers other teams want to trade for. Montas, for instance, has pitched in parts of 6 major league seasons and started in the minors in 2010. His arm has over a 1000 innings of professional ball on it. Winder has pitched 236 innings in professional ball. I'd much prefer to keep Winder and let him develop. Maybe someday some other team will trade to trade several of their top prospects for him.
  14. Martin is considered the #1 or 2 prospect on the Twins depending on what survey you review. 2021 was his first year of organized ball and he had a total 330 at bats. If the future of The Twins is based on developing prospects, rather than signing free agents, why would we even consider trading him UNLESS another team came to us with a totally overwhelming offer.
  15. Do you understand the definition of rookie. Obviously not so why are you writing this article?
  16. I assume you don't like Ryan Jeffers since you left him off the list.
  17. Well I guess we know who your favorite Twin was when you were younger.
  18. Hopefully the Ground Hog won't predict another 6 weeks of long cold winter. But maybe Santa will put something great in the stockings.
  19. Overall team speed matters a lot. Yep they have power, but how many playoffs has it helped them win? If you have Buxton, Martin and Lewis starting in the field they can't all play center at the same time. Then can also bring in Gordon to add additional speed you might get a real balanced attack to win games when the power is not flying.
  20. No. You don't trade a prospect who is rated as the best athlete and fastest runner in your system. On scouting reports he was given "a significant upside at shortstop" review at the game's most valued non-catching position. If people didn't know before, they should know now that the Twins won't compete through the free agent market. That leaves them with competing through home grown talent.
  21. I will be following Julien next year to see how he does. He should start at double A or get there pretty quick. Along with 34 steals and 110 walks he also had 46 extra base hits and a 914 ops. Not bad for a first year player.
  22. I guess we've gotten past the days of the manager coaching third base and the pitching coach coaching first base. With the trainer running the dugout.?
  23. Advancing a player from double A to the major is not unheard of. With that said Sands, Balazovic, Duran, Dobnak, Jax, Ober, Ryan, Strotman, Thorpe, Winder, Vallimont and maybe Richardson as well as Bundy could see time as starters with the Twins next season. Most of these guys are on the 40 man roster and might as well have them all training with the Twins. You definitely would need a score card next year. Keep the shuttle to the Saints running.
  24. Minimalistic. Why spend $30-50mil more in the hopes of finishing 4th I'm their division? Spend the year incorporating rookies into the lineup and rotation. Shoot for 2023 or probably 2024. Remember it took Berrios 4 years of going back and forth to triple A before he solidifies his position in the rotation. It could take awhile to build a real rotation.
  25. If you look at the scouting reviews for pitching prospects you will see that no pitching prospects are rated better than mid rotation level starters.(#3's). Why? I don't know, probably no scout/management type wants to put that type of pressure on them. Look at the writeup's for the pitchers in this years top 100 prospects. Nobody is rated better than midlevel. Some have a "midlevel starter with top of rotation characteristics" description. (At least in the independent scouting reviews I've seen}. On the other hand I'm pretty sure fans of the top pitching prospects consider them ace material.
